Chapter 899 He Is a Madman
Lyra threw out those words and bolted.
The only place she could go was the hospital, where she had switched shifts to cover the night shift.
Tonight, the hospital corridors were unusually quiet, with only the occasional beeping of medical equipment breaking the silence.
Lyra patrolled the patient ward as usual, checking on the patients' conditions.
However, an unexpected figure appeared before her.
Aaron hobbled towards her on crutches.
She wrinkled her nose. What was that smell?
It seemed to be coming from him.
The closer he got, the stronger it became.
Aaron reeked of alcohol, his eyes filled with confusion and madness.
"Lyra."
Aaron slurred her name, suddenly reaching out and grabbing her wrist tightly.
Lyra was startled and tried to pull away with all her might.
"Aaron, you're drunk. How did you get here? Let go of me!"
But Aaron didn't listen. Fueled by the alcohol, he yanked Lyra towards him, his other hand trying to cup her face, aiming to force a kiss.
Lyra turned her head away in horror, filled with disgust and fear. "You lunatic! If you don't stop, I'll call security!"
Aaron just sneered.
"Call security? Do you think they can get here faster than I can? Lyra, you can't escape me. You belong to me."
His words, like a devil's whisper, sent chills down Lyra's spine.
Lyra struggled desperately, using her knee to forcefully hit Aaron's groin. Aaron winced in pain, loosening his grip slightly.
Lyra seized the opportunity to break free and ran towards the nurse's station, knowing her colleagues were there and that there was a phone to call security.
But Aaron, in his drunken stupor, wasn't about to give up easily. Ignoring the pain, he quickly caught up to Lyra.
Aaron reached out from behind, covering Lyra's mouth and stifling her scream.
Lyra thrashed wildly, kicking her legs, trying to draw attention.
But Aaron's strength was overwhelming. Ignoring her resistance, he dragged her towards the stairwell.
Lyra was terrified. She tried to bite Aaron's hand, but he seemed prepared, tightening his grip, making it hard for her to breathe. Her vision began to blur.
In the stairwell, Aaron threw Lyra against the wall. The impact sent a wave of pain through her.
She leaned against the wall, gasping for air, her anger rising.
"Aaron, what do you want? This is illegal!" Lyra shouted.
Aaron just laughed, the sound echoing eerily in the empty stairwell.
"Illegal? I don't care. Lyra, I became like this for you, and you want to abandon me? Do you think I'll let you go so easily?"
He stepped closer to Lyra.
Lyra frantically looked around, searching for a way to escape.
Suddenly, she spotted a fire extinguisher. An idea formed in her mind. As Aaron approached, she lunged for the extinguisher and swung it at him.
Aaron couldn't dodge in time. The extinguisher hit his shoulder, and he roared in pain, stumbling.
Lyra took the chance to run towards the stairwell door, but Aaron quickly regained his balance and chased after her.
At the nurse's station, nurses Yasmin and Wilhelmina were chatting during a rare moment of downtime.
"Yasmin, did you hear? That difficult patient in the next ward thanked the staff today. It's a miracle," Wilhelmina said, amazed.
Yasmin smiled. "Maybe our care finally got through to him. By the way, why hasn't Dr. Cole come back from her rounds yet? She should be done by now."
Wilhelmina shrugged. "Maybe a patient needed extra attention. You know how thorough Dr. Cole is."
"True, but it's been a while. I'm starting to worry," Yasmin said, frowning with a growing sense of unease.
"Don't worry. She'll be back soon. This hospital is big. Maybe she ran into someone and chatted for a bit," Wilhelmina tried to reassure her.
But as time passed, Lyra still hadn't returned.
Yasmin couldn't sit still any longer. "I need to check on her. It's late, and I hope nothing's wrong."
Wilhelmina, seeing Yasmin's serious expression, put aside her casual attitude. "I'll go with you."
They had just left the nurse's station when they heard a commotion from the stairwell, including what sounded like Lyra's voice.
They exchanged a worried glance and rushed towards the stairwell.
"Dr. Cole!"
Lyra heard her colleagues calling her name. She used her last bit of strength to shout back.
"Help! Over here!"
Lyra mustered all her strength, breaking free from Aaron's grip and running towards her colleagues.
She thought she was finally escaping Aaron's clutches, but then something unexpected happened.
Aaron, thrown off balance, stumbled backward and fell.
He began convulsing violently, foaming at the mouth, showing signs of a severe seizure.
The two nurses arrived at the stairwell door just in time to see Lyra standing nearby and Aaron on the ground, convulsing.
Their faces showed shock and fear, instinctively linking the scene to Lyra's actions.
Lyra was also stunned by the sudden turn of events. She stood there, staring at Aaron, her mind blank.
"I didn't push him. He just collapsed," Lyra stammered, her voice weak in the tense atmosphere.
The nurses didn't respond to Lyra's explanation immediately. They knelt, trying to assess Aaron's condition and provide first aid.
They checked Aaron's vital signs, one nurse feeling for a pulse at his neck, the other checking his pupils.
"Quick, get a stretcher and alert the ER!" one nurse shouted into her walkie-talkie.
Soon, other medical staff arrived with a stretcher. They quickly lifted Aaron onto it and rushed him to the emergency room.
