Chapter 829 Dinner Party

Saskia hesitated, unsure how to explain.

She couldn't exactly say they were arguing because they wanted to scam you out of money for a fancy dinner.

"Got something to say?" Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

Saskia was surprised he saw through her so easily. She took a deep breath. "Yeah, actually, they want to go out for a team dinner."

She said it all in one breath.

She waited quietly for Nathaniel's reaction.

But Nathaniel just raised his eyebrow a bit more, showing no particular emotion. "That's it?"

Then he promptly approved it.

When Saskia relayed Nathaniel's message to the team, everyone was in disbelief.

"Oh my God, Mr. Egan agreed..."

"I thought he wouldn't. He always seems like such a workaholic, never seen him take a break since he started here. Who knew he could be so agreeable?"

Only Marcus knew the truth. It wasn't that Nathaniel was easygoing, but rather...

He was only easygoing with Saskia.

The dinner was arranged at a high-end restaurant, and the employees were thrilled.

Nathaniel even asked Saskia if she wanted to dress up for the occasion.

Saskia was puzzled. "Why dress up?"

Nathaniel looked her up and down. She was dressed quite normally, just like any professional woman. "Wearing that might be a bit too casual. It's our first team dinner, after all."

His words sounded a bit odd.

Saskia was confused but agreed with his point.

The first team dinner should be taken seriously.

"What should I wear?" Saskia thought about her wardrobe, realizing she didn't have anything suitable.

Luckily, Nathaniel had already prepared. He took out a box, clearly having planned ahead. "Wear this. I had it custom-made a few days ago."

Saskia saw the logo. It was from a well-known store that specialized in everyday wear.

This store was famous for its limited editions, never re-releasing items.

Because of its unique designs, it was highly sought after in the fashion world and had been invited to feature in several fashion magazines, though the owner always declined.

The owner was notoriously difficult to deal with.

So Saskia was shocked. "How did you get this?"

"I have my ways. Go change in the lounge. We'll leave soon." Nathaniel pointed to the lounge.

Saskia nodded and didn't refuse.

He gave her a gift, and she accepted it.

After all, she really didn't know what to wear, and Nathaniel's gift was perfect.

Nathaniel booked a large private room.

That evening, everyone dressed up a bit, which made Saskia glad she listened to Nathaniel.

They arrived together.

When they entered the room, it went quiet for a moment.

"Mr. Egan came with Ms. Fuller. Did Ms. Fuller catch a ride with him?" someone joked.

Saskia subtly moved away from Nathaniel, "We just happened to meet. Thankfully, Mr. Egan let me ride with him, or I'd be late."

Her light-hearted joke eased the atmosphere.

But Nathaniel's face darkened as he looked at Saskia, now three seats away.

Marcus seemed to notice and quickly called for the menu.

Everyone ordered a few dishes.

Then the two tables started chatting separately.

Nathaniel's table was noticeably less lively than the other.

"Why don't we chat a bit, Ms. Fuller? I'm curious, what did you do before joining the company?" Marcus wiped his sweat, trying to lighten the mood.

Marcus glanced at Nathaniel, sighing inwardly.

Whoever upset Nathaniel, now he had to smooth things over.

Saskia cooperated.

Gradually, the conversation picked up, and everyone relaxed, chatting more enthusiastically.

Then someone casually asked, "Ms. Fuller, have you thought about getting married?"

Nathaniel's cold glare made the person shiver.

Marcus's heart skipped a beat.

Thankfully, Saskia answered diplomatically, "If I meet the right person, maybe. But I haven't thought about it yet."

Soon, the food arrived.

Everyone ate and drank their fill before heading home.

Many had drunk too much, stumbling around. Marcus took charge of getting them home.

Saskia had a couple of drinks but was fine, just a bit flushed.

"Ms. Fuller, can you get home on your own? If you're sure, I'll head out." Marcus carried a drunken employee, who slapped his back.

Saskia felt sorry for him and didn't want to trouble him further.

"You go ahead. I can get a cab."

"Then I'll be off."

Marcus quickly left.

He wasn't worried about Saskia's safety.

With Nathaniel watching, there was no way she'd be in danger.

Everyone had left, leaving just the two of them.

Nathaniel picked up Saskia's bag, naturally and smoothly. "I'll take you home. Let's go."

Saskia wanted her bag back but seeing his demeanor, she decided not to ask.

She figured he wouldn't give it back anyway.

Saskia leaned back in the car, the delayed effects of the alcohol making her dizzy.

Nathaniel noticed the silence and looked over, seeing Saskia with her eyes closed, breathing evenly as if asleep.

"Mr. Egan, there's a bit of traffic ahead." The driver didn't lower his voice.

Nathaniel shot him a look. "Keep it down. Take another route. Do I need to teach you this?"

The driver immediately fell silent.

Saskia was lying uncomfortably.

Nathaniel gently laid her down, letting her rest against him.

He looked down, seeing her curled lashes and slightly parted lips, a hint of red with a touch of moisture.

Nathaniel's heart stirred, his fingers lightly brushing her lips, his eyes darkening.

"Saskia."

Saskia didn't respond.

He called again, "Saskia."

She turned over.

Nathaniel chuckled softly, pressing his fingers for a moment before pulling back. "Alright, I won't tease you."

Saskia, deep in sleep, had no idea she had almost been kissed by someone taking advantage of the situation.

...

Nathaniel still hadn't decided to visit Robbie at the hospital.

He wasn't in the right frame of mind.

The law firm had received a complaint, calling to confirm if Nathaniel was at the company, then issuing a warning.

Saskia heard about it from Marcus.

"How is Mr. Egan now?" She asked urgently.

Marcus sighed, looking at the CEO's office. "He doesn't want to see anyone. He's not at the company now, left right after the call."

Seeing Marcus didn't know more, Saskia stopped asking him.

He clearly didn't know.

So where would Nathaniel go at a time like this?

She suddenly thought of a place, took leave from Marcus, and hurriedly took a cab to the daycare.

At this time, the daycare was still in session.

The outside was empty, so she immediately saw the black car parked quietly.
