Chapter 967 End of the Wedding Leave

Lyra didn't want to bother Mia right then, so she turned and shared a smile with Jeffery beside her.

After the wedding wrapped up, everyone slowly trickled out.

Lyra had been on her feet all day and finally had a moment to catch her breath.

As the sun set, the lawn still held the warm traces of the wedding, but their time together was just beginning.

Back at their already decorated home, Lyra felt a deep sense of peace as she looked around at the personal touches she had added to every corner.

This was a feeling she had never experienced before.

Her previous place was just a house, but this home was a true sanctuary.

"You've worked hard." Suddenly, a pair of hands landed on her shoulders, applying just the right amount of pressure to gently massage them.

Lyra instinctively tensed up, placing her hand over his.

Jeffery gently moved her hand away. "Relax, don't be so tense."

Lyra took a deep breath.

Yeah, she had almost forgotten. Things were different now; they were married.

There was no need to be so cautious, no need to keep a distance.

"Thank you."

Jeffery raised an eyebrow. "Are you planning to keep being so polite with me?"

She immediately fell silent, her face gradually reddening as she looked at Jeffery's unabashedly teasing expression.

His gaze deepened under her shy stare. He leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "The bath is ready. Want to join me?"

Lyra almost lost her voice. She didn't answer, but her hands honestly wrapped around his neck, expressing her feelings at that moment.

Jeffery scooped Lyra up in his arms.

The biggest difference after getting married was having someone to share life with.

At first, Lyra found it hard to adjust. Every morning, she would be startled by the traces of another person on the pillow next to her. Remembering the events of the previous night would make her blush for a long time.

But as time went on, she grew more comfortable, and their interactions became more harmonious.

The hospital staff also showered them with blessings.

Lyra arrived at the hospital as usual. As soon as she walked in, two nurses greeted her.

"Good morning, Mrs. Gary! Back from your break already?"

She had taken a few days off for the wedding.

Today was her first day back at work.

Lyra still wasn't used to the new title. "You don't have to call me that. Just call me Dr. Cole."

She returned to her duties, quickly getting back into the rhythm of work with her lab coat, stethoscope, and patient charts.

At noon, Lyra didn't go to the cafeteria. Instead, she waited for someone at the entrance.

Before long, a familiar figure appeared.

Jeffery walked in and asked, "Do you want to go out for lunch, or should we eat in the cafeteria?"

Lyra stood up and draped the coat he had left with her that morning over his shoulders. "I think we should eat in the cafeteria. Save some money."

"Save money?"

Lyra raised an eyebrow. "You don't think things are the same as before, do you? We're married now. We have to consider everything. Saving a bit here and there adds up."

Jeffery didn't spoil her mood by reminding her of his substantial assets.

Lyra's frugal habits from before were still ingrained in her. After getting married, she naturally continued to follow them. Being thrifty was a good habit, and there was no need to change it.

The most important thing was to let her live the way she liked.

So he simply responded with a gentle, "Okay."

Before heading to the cafeteria, Lyra brought up another topic. "By the way, about the donation we talked about for the kids in impoverished areas and the orphanage construction. Now that I'm back from my break, we should get started."

This was something Lyra and Jeffery had discussed before their wedding.

It was also part of a charity project the hospital was currently involved in, with many people voluntarily participating.

"I've already found an orphanage," Jeffery said.

Lyra was surprised. "You've already found one? I thought we were going to build a new one?"

Jeffery shook his head. "I thought about it. Building a new orphanage would be expensive and not easily trusted. Recruiting new staff would also be difficult."

Finding a director and caregivers for the orphanage was challenging because the pay was low, and few people were willing to do such demanding work.

"Coincidentally, there was an orphanage that closed down due to poor management. The staff and the homeless orphans had nowhere to go. They wanted to crowdfund to reopen the orphanage."

Lyra's eyes lit up. "So you thought of helping them?"

She happily cupped his face and kissed him on the lips.

The sound was crisp and clear.

"That's a great idea!"

Lyra was so pleased that she didn't notice Jeffery's gaze growing darker.

Suddenly, he pulled her into his arms before she could react.

Then, a passionate kiss followed.

Lyra was breathless, clutching his collar tightly. "Wait, this is the hospital, Jeffery. Control yourself."

Jeffery ignored her.

Returning to the hospital and the intense work had left them with little time for intimacy.

He was quite dissatisfied with the lack of time together.

Now that he had the chance, he wasn't going to let it slip by!

After a while, Jeffery finally let her go.

Lyra, her face flushed, pushed him away.

Seeing that she seemed upset, Jeffery decided to coax her. "Are you mad?"

Lyra elbowed him lightly. "Don't touch me. Isn't it enough at home?"

One of the main reasons she returned to work so quickly was Jeffery.

Lyra couldn't handle him anymore.

Since getting married, Jeffery had been insatiable. While it wasn't excessive, it was more than she could handle.

A day or two was manageable, but every day was too much for her.

So she ended her break early and returned to work.

She hadn't expected Jeffery to be so bold at the hospital, too!

"If you keep this up, I'll have to set some ground rules," Lyra said, her face expressionless.

Jeffery held her, not feeling he was in the wrong. "Aren't you the one being unreasonable? We just got married, and you're already pushing me away? That's not fair."

"Besides, wanting to be close to you isn't wrong, is it?"

Lyra realized for the first time that Jeffery could be so smooth with his words.

His deep voice was husky and seductive.

She almost lost her resolve, but her rationality quickly returned. She firmly and politely declined the temptation.

"Even so, there has to be some moderation. Alright, it's getting late. Let's go. We can discuss the rest of the plan later."

Afraid Jeffery would continue to pester her, making things uncontrollable, Lyra quickly wrapped a scarf around herself and headed out.
