Chapter 133: Is This a Mistake?

"There's no need for that. It doesn't matter who cooks, it's all good. I just ate more today because I happened to be hungry." Pearl didn't want Oscar to dote on her.

It wouldn't be good if he paid her too much attention. The more attached they were to each other, the deeper the consequences would be.

"I'm tired, can I go rest now?" Pearl asked.

"Okay," Oscar replied softly.

Pearl finally breathed a sigh of relief and quickly went upstairs.

In the morning, she would go to work and not have to stay in this place anymore.

After work, she could go home.

Back in the bedroom, Pearl relaxed. Unexpectedly, Oscar followed her in.

Seeing the door open, Pearl stepped back and asked, "Why are you coming in too?"

"This is the master bedroom. If I don't come in here, where else would I go?" Oscar said, casually.

Pearl said, "Then I'll go to the guest room."

Pearl wanted to leave, but Oscar grabbed her hand, looked at her and said, "Why are you trying to avoid me right now? We've been together for so long. When have we ever slept in separate rooms?"

Oscar felt that nothing between them had changed, and as long as they didn't proceed with the divorce, nothing would change.

Pearl wanted to live separately from Oscar, which he would not allow.

Pearl subconsciously avoided Oscar, thinking, 'We can no longer do what couples can do.'

Pearl and Oscar shared the same bed, but their thoughts were different.

"Just rest," Oscar said. "Which side do you want to sleep on?"

Pearl compromised. "I'll sleep on this side."

It was the side closer to the door, so Pearl could come and go more freely.

Oscar agreed. "Okay."

Oscar looked at the time. It was still early, so he turned on the TV again, saying, "It's too early to sleep, let's watch TV for a while."

Oscar walked past Pearl to the other side of the bed, lying down sideways.

Pearl looked at Oscar, not moving. Oscar said, "What are you looking at? Come lie down."

A popular drama was playing on TV, the kind that women liked to watch.

Pearl was a woman, and Oscar thought Pearl would like to watch it, so he resisted the urge to change the channel so he could watch it with her.

Pearl didn't want to upset him, so she laid down on the bed.

Just as she did so, a hand wrapped around Pearl's neck. Pulling her head toward his shoulder, Oscar asked, "Is this okay?"

Pearl was taken aback by Oscar's move. Oscar had never been so intimate before.

Oscar settled down, raised the pillow, and let Pearl lie in his arms, saying, "This should be comfortable for watching TV, right?"

Oscar wasn't sure, so he asked.

Pearl leaned against him, looking at the TV, and softly replied, "Yes."

With that, Oscar maintained this position and said, "If you get tired, just go to sleep and I'll turn off the TV."

Suddenly, everything seemed so right. They were acting like a normal couple, which made Pearl somewhat uncomfortable.

She hadn't expected Oscar to suddenly act this way.

Pearl didn't want to communicate too much with Oscar, so she focused on watching TV.

At first she wasn't really into it, but the more she watched it, the more she began to empathize with the drama's plot.

As she was feeling relaxed, she naturally didn't think about what Oscar might do.

Oscar felt uncomfortable staying still in one position, so he shifted slowly while trying not to disturb Pearl.

His arms tightened around her as he embraced her. He accidentally touched Pearl's stomach.

He felt like she had gotten a bit heavier.

"Have you gained weight recently?" Oscar asked.

Pearl simply said, "No."

Oscar's hand stroked Pearl's stomach. Suspicious, he asked, "It feels like your stomach has gotten a bit bigger."

Hearing this, Pearl's heart skipped a beat, instinctively grabbing Oscar's hand on her abdomen.

Her reaction was disproportionately intense, leaving Oscar puzzled. "What's wrong?"

Pearl was a bit flustered. As her hand stroked her stomach, she wondered if it had indeed gotten a bit bigger.

Logically, it wasn't time for that yet.

Pearl and Oscar stared at each other, with Oscar's skeptical gaze making Pearl even more nervous, so she said, "Maybe I ate too much. I want to sleep now."

After saying that, Pearl laid down and closed her eyes, not wanting to face Oscar's persistent questioning.

Oscar looked at Pearl, then at her fuller figure. He thought she looked much better than before, when she was thin.

But Pearl's adverse reaction made Oscar suspicious.

Pearl had changed.

She was very different now.

For example, she wasn't as devoted to Oscar as before, wanted to divorce him, and even thought about quitting her job.

It seemed like Pearl had become a completely different person in the blink of an eye.

It really made him uncomfortable.

Oscar also laid down, putting his arm around Pearl. He found it quite comfortable to hold Pearl like this, and it made him sleep a bit more soundly.

Perhaps he really couldn't do without her.

Pearl woke up very early.

She really wanted to go to work.

She had been thinking about quitting, but unexpectedly, the office had become the most relaxing place for Pearl.

Pearl and Oscar went together in his car.

Fortunately, Oscar was someone who could separate work and personal matters, so he wouldn't bother her during work hours.

Back at her desk, Pearl took the resumes she had prepared yesterday and went to conduct the interviews.

Out of thousands of candidates, Pearl only selected twenty people.

"Pearl, are you really going to quit?" Queenie was shocked when she heard the news.

"Yes." Pearl looked at Queenie and said, "I'm going to conduct the interviews, do you want to come along?"

Pearl had been at the Brown Group for seven years.

Pearl also had Oscar's trust, so her departure was something no one expected.

Queenie was distressed, saying, "If you leave, what am I going to do? Mr. Brown will keep telling me off, I know it!"

Queenie wasn't as meticulous as Pearl in her work, and if it hadn't been for Pearl's reminders, Queenie would probably have made mistakes several times.

It would be difficult for Queenie in the Brown group without someone to remind her.

"You have to rely on yourself." Pearl looked at Queenie and said, "You need to improve your skills."

What Pearl said was true, but it was still a bitter pill to swallow.

Watching Pearl walk away, Queenie caught up with her. She still wanted to learn more from Pearl.

Among the interviewees were men and women of different ages, and Pearl only selected those who were suitable.

Queenie knew what Oscar needed, so she wasn't going to judge based on the candidates' qualifications.

In the end, Pearl chose a young girl who had just graduated.

She was pretty, smart, and young, with a strong sense of adaptability, making her more suitable for Oscar.

"Ms. Pearl," the girl said. She had her hair tied in a ponytail and was wearing a uniform. She was almost as tall as Pearl and stood respectfully beside her, smiling slightly. "I will work hard, I look forward to your guidance."

"Your name is Sarah White, right?" Pearl said, looking at her.

"Yes," Sarah replied.

"Take a look at these materials first, I'll take you to meet Mr. Brown later." Pearl had recorded some of Oscar's habits and preferences, as well as some other trivial matters, in a notebook for Sarah to review.

She hoped Sarah wouldn't disappoint her.

"Okay."

Sarah was obediently jotting down the things in the notebook, but halfway through, she suddenly looked up and said, "Ms. Pearl, is this a mistake?"
