Chapter 158 Why Are You Reacting So Strongly?
Pearl chuckled. "Look at what you're saying, there's no love between Oscar and me. Even if there is not Haley, there will be someone else."
Janetta's face changed. "Alright, I'll shut up."
It didn't take long for the servant to cook.
But Pearl didn't eat much and felt sleepy.
The next day.
Pearl and Janetta went to an art exhibition.
Janetta was already a somewhat famous painter. Even though she came in disguise, she was still recognized.
There were too many people.
Janetta had to let go of Pearl. "Pearl, you go ahead."
With that, Janetta quickly ran off.
Without Janetta, Pearl felt bored.
But Pearl didn't expect to see Oscar walking towards her at the exit.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, it felt like time had stopped.
However, Pearl quickly snapped out of it.
Without saying a word, Pearl planned to walk around Oscar, but Oscar blocked her way, "Pearl, are you rehearsing divorce in advance?"
"No. I just thought that since I don't have a job recently, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to stay by your side."
Pearl didn't look at Oscar.
Oscar said hoarsely, "Come back with me; there are several documents that need you to deal with."
Before Pearl could respond, Oscar was already walking ahead.
Oscar's demeanor suggested he was certain Pearl would follow and not refuse.
Pearl did follow him, but she said, "Mr. Brown, can't Sarah handle those documents?"
"You placed Sarah in the company, and now you want to place her in my personal life too?" Oscar's words were indifferent, but Pearl could almost see his cold eyes.
Pearl pressed her lips together and replied, "I never thought of that."
Oscar didn't respond.
Within two minutes, Pearl got into the car with Oscar.
Harold was in the driver's seat.
In less than forty minutes, Harold drove them back to Serenity Haven Estates.
They got out of the car and went straight to the study in the villa.
Oscar sat in front of the computer, and Pearl was beside him, even making him a cup of coffee. However, the faint rose scent reminded him of Sarah's coffee from the previous day.
Oscar's face darkened. "Don't make this kind of coffee again."
"Okay."
Oscar loved this kind of coffee and even praised Pearl for making it well. But now, he told her he didn't want that type of coffee anymore.
Pearl didn't say much or ask questions.
"According to the rules, we need to go to the bureau a month in advance if we want a divorce. Can we go there tomorrow?" Pearl asked Oscar while holding the coffee.
She kept her head down, not looking at Oscar.
At this point, she didn't want to look at Oscar anymore to avoid feeling uncomfortable.
"Okay."
Seeing that he agreed, Pearl said, "Then I'll make you another cup of coffee."
Oscar didn't respond, but his lips were tightly pressed into a straight line.
Silence meant consent.
Without the rose scent, the strong smell of coffee beans made Pearl feel nauseous.
Pearl drank a glass of water and stood in the kitchen for half a minute before bringing the coffee to Oscar.
Oscar was smoking.
As soon as Pearl opened the door, she smelled the strong scent of smoke mixed with alcohol. She couldn't stand the smell and frowned.
The next second, she started coughing.
Because of the coughing, she inhaled a lot of smoke, and the nausea was overwhelming. Pearl couldn't suppress it and almost dropped the coffee.
Seeing Pearl like this, Oscar frowned. "Didn't you go to the hospital for a check-up?"
"Yes, I got some medication."
Pearl was a bit nervous.
She didn't dare to look into Oscar's eyes, fearing that his sharp intuition would detect something.
Oscar's brows furrowed tightly. "It's been a day or two since you said you went to see a doctor. What medication did you get? Let me ask Quincy. If it doesn't work, I'll have Quincy send you something else."
The doctor had prescribed her calcium tablets and folic acid, which Pearl had already replaced.
If she showed these to Quincy, as a doctor, he would immediately notice something was off!
Pearl could only change the subject. "You said it's only been a day or two. It can't work that fast. Besides, you gave me a box of stomach medicine last time."
Oscar remembered.
Seeing that Oscar didn't say anything, Pearl quickly placed the coffee on his desk. "I didn't add any syrup this time. See if you like it. I just remembered I need to go to my room to sort some things."
"Okay."
Oscar didn't say much more.
But he did notice that Pearl seemed very anxious when she turned to leave.
This aroused Oscar's suspicion.
Oscar didn't drink the black coffee Pearl had made.
When Pearl returned to her room, she was too afraid that Oscar would discover something. Also, because Oscar mentioned it, Pearl remembered that she hadn't taken her folic acid tablets since she visited Janetta yesterday.
Just as she was taking them, she heard the door open.
The sudden sound startled Pearl, causing her to drop the bottle of pills.
Immediately, she saw Oscar's tall figure approaching her.
Oscar's eyes were scrutinizing.
"Give me the medication you're taking."
It was clear that Pearl was acting strangely, too anxious, and even secretly taking medication behind him!
Pearl was extremely nervous, but she had to do as Oscar said.
White pills.
And some longer tablets.
Oscar didn't understand, so he looked at the bottle.
Pearl had already replaced the bottle, so what Oscar saw was labeled as vitamin A.
"If it's just vitamins, why are you reacting so strongly?" Oscar held the bottle, his eyes sharp as knives as he looked at Pearl.
Pearl pressed her lips together and said hoarsely, "You suddenly startled me. I'm easily scared."
Seeing that Oscar didn't say anything, Pearl added, "Oscar, don't you trust me? I'm only in my twenties, and my health is fine. You don't need me to show you a medical report, do you?"
Oscar noticed that Pearl's eyes were very clear and determined at that moment.
"Let Quincy take a look at you anyway."
Oscar placed the bottle of pills on the bedside table.
Pearl didn't want Quincy to check.
Quincy was an expert at Clarity Hospital. If she went to Quincy, he would definitely find out that Pearl was pregnant.
Pearl said, "It's not that I don't want to see Quincy. I've already been checked, and there's nothing major. The doctor said it's just stress, overthinking, and irregular meals. I have a fear of seeing doctors, and I don't want to go now."
Oscar took a step closer to Pearl.
Oscar's large hand gently touched Pearl's head. "It's just to see a doctor. There's nothing to be afraid of. Quincy isn't scary."
