Chapter 577 Grievance

Couldn't get Oscar on the phone again, and Pearl was about ready to lose it. Just then, Magdalen hit her up, and Pearl, still fuming, spilled the beans about her crappy day and what she planned to do next.

Magdalen suggested they meet up at a bar, just a short walk from Pearl's place.

Pearl knew Magdalen was being thoughtful since she didn't have a car. She hoofed it to the bar and waited a bit before they showed up.

"Mrs. Brown, I hear you wanna dig up dirt on someone." Archie cut to the chase as he stepped out of the car.

Pearl nodded, whipped out a pic of Alina, and handed it over. "I heard her hubby's a manager at some company. Find out which one. She tried to off me, so I'm gonna let her pay the price."

Archie didn't bat an eye. He got a private room for Pearl and Magdalen and went off to start the investigation.

In less than ten minutes, Archie was back with a printed doc.

Alina's husband, Ole Berg, was a procurement manager at a hotel under the Brown Group. The doc also mentioned a key player, Ole's side chick, Gabriella Holmen.

Gabriella was knocked up and chilling in a suburban community.

"Man, people who seem pitiful usually got some nasty stuff going on," Magdalen sighed.

Pearl sneered, "If you feel bad for her, consider how it would be if someone who never practiced self-defense encountered today's events. Who should we feel bad for then?"

She turned to Archie, saying, "Mr. Davies, can you do me a solid? I want Alina to find out about Gabriella, but it can't come from me."

Archie chuckled, clearly intrigued. He lowered his voice and said, "Don't worry, I'm great at doing shady stuff. Just wait for the good news. By tomorrow, there'll be a show worth watching."

The sooner, the better. It'd be way more satisfying.

As night fell and the city quieted down, Oscar dragged himself back to his office from a meeting, sipping on some bitter coffee to stay awake. His phone buzzed on the desk.

It was a call from RavenWing.

Oscar didn't waste a second and answered, "What's up at this hour?"

RavenWing barked, "Oscar, what the hell is going on with you? Are you not keeping an eye on Pearl and Christopher? Someone messed with Christopher a while back, and today Pearl almost got kidnapped. Did you know that?"

Oscar was floored. Wasn't Pearl out shopping with friends? How could she almost get kidnapped?

He didn't waste time and asked for the details. After hearing RavenWing's story, he got serious.

"I've sent the info about those people to your email, Oscar. I don't want this happening again. Otherwise, don't blame me for taking them back. If that happens, good luck seeing them." RavenWing was pissed, and Oscar got it, no arguments.

Oscare definitely didn't want anything happening to Pearl. Today's mess-up was on him.

After checking the email, Oscar called his secretary, set up the upcoming work, and rushed home.

When he walked in and saw Pearl sipping coffee, he rushed over and hugged her tight.

Sensing something was off, Pearl was surprised. "What's up with you? What happened?"

"Just let me hold you. You must've been freaked out today. It's all on me. I promised to be there with you and Christopher at the sports meet but ditched you for work. My bad." He couldn't even bear to think about what could've happened to Pearl.

Oscar's heart was pounding, and Pearl could feel his worry. All the anger from earlier just melted away, replaced by forgiveness.

She hugged him back and softly said, "I'm fine. You know I can handle myself. Regular folks can't touch me."

"I'm really scared. From now on, no matter how busy I get, I'm sticking by your side," Oscar vowed.

"Alright, see? I'm perfectly fine now." Pearl pouted and acted all cute. "I'm starving. Didn't eat much at lunch today. It was all about chatting and taking pics. They didn't eat, so I didn't either."

Truth was, she had eaten well, but Pearl wanted Oscar to move past the incident. No point dwelling on it.

Oscar scooped her up and headed out. "Let's go get a feast. What do you wanna eat?"

"Haven't decided yet." Pearl buried her head in his chest, giggling.

When Oscar put her down, he gave her a long, passionate kiss.

They ended up at a Mexican joint. Oscar looked at the spicy dishes, smiling awkwardly.

Pearl teased, "If you can't handle it, we can bounce."

"No way, this is fine," he said stubbornly, taking a small bite of beef and instantly turning red from the heat.

"Not bad, try this." Ignoring his protests, Pearl piled more food on his plate. "Mr. Brown, you wouldn't refuse, would you?"

Oscar was dying inside but kept a slight smile, eating the fiery meat, feeling like he swallowed a torch.

As soon as he finished, Pearl added more to his plate. Finally, Oscar couldn't take it anymore.

He waved his hands in surrender. "I give up. Let's go eat something else."

Pearl grinned, "Alright, let's get ice cream."

Oscar groaned, suddenly remembering something.

After chugging a big glass of water, he leaned in, holding Pearl's face, and sincerely apologized. "I shouldn't have ignored your calls, and I shouldn't have tricked you into going to the sports meet knowing you hate it. My bad, babe."

"That's enough. Either drink this soup or take me for ice cream." Pearl felt wronged. She told herself to let it go, but the more she thought about it, the more upset she got.

Oscar had come back because he knew about the incident and was pressured by RavenWing, not because he felt guilty for leaving her.

So, she picked Mexican food and made Oscar eat the spiciest dishes, enjoying his discomfort.

Oscar knew Pearl's feeling, but he really couldn't handle the soup, so he chose ice cream, which was better than the spice.

After finishing a whole ice cream, Oscar drove straight to the hospital without Pearl even asking. The doctor, waiting at the entrance, quickly took him to the emergency room.

"Mrs. Brown, you're gonna kill him. If something happens, it's on you. This is nuts." The doctor scolded Pearl for being unreasonable.

A nurse rushed out of the emergency room, "Mr. Brown said it wasn't Mrs. Brown's fault. He insisted on eating spicy and then ice cream."

The doctor sighed, "Spoiling your wife shouldn't look like this. I'm at a loss with you two."
