Chapter 136: Not Your Call
Suddenly, Pearl felt a force on her wrist, pulling her back.
The next moment, she fell into an embrace. It felt cold, and there was a whiff of alcohol and tobacco that made Pearl catch her breath!
"Ryan, I'm not completely out of the picture yet."
The stern words came from above Pearl's head. Ryan, seeing Oscar across from him, was also taken aback. Many people were gossiping about Pearl behind her back, including Oscar, who even brought Sarah along.
However, Oscar was here to defend Pearl.
Ryan looked into Oscar's eyes, a faint smile on his lips. "Mr. Brown, although we haven't collaborated before, we might collaborate in the future."
Oscar remained silent, his lips tightly pressed together. His eyes were cold. Pearl sensed this as a sign of Oscar's anger.
Just as Pearl was about to speak, Oscar grabbed a bottle and viciously aimed it at Ryan's head.
Ryan's screams echoed through the entire first-floor hall, drawing everyone's attention.
"Mr. Brown, it's just a misunderstanding. He didn't do anything to me. Please don't act rashly." Pearl was shocked. She never expected Oscar to react so strongly and quickly stood in front of him to stop him.
A man certainly values his dignity the most. With so many people watching, rumors could easily spread, leading to trouble for Pearl. And Pearl didn't want to become a subject of gossip.
Oscar pushed Pearl aside and strode towards Ryan. Ryan was no match for Oscar. In a few moments, Ryan was left bloodied by Oscar's blows, and no one dared to intervene. Pearl even noticed someone taking out their phone to record Oscar's assault on Ryan.
"No filming! Harold, Sarah!" Pearl scolded the person with the phone and then called out to Harold and Sarah. In no time at all, they were by her side. Harold tried to pull Oscar away, while Sarah and Pearl dispersed the crowd. However, some bold individuals managed to capture the scene and post it online, including close-ups of Oscar and Pearl.
The online discussions grew, with speculations about Oscar and Pearl's secret relationship. Haley was unable to control her anger, made a comment online. If it weren't for Pearl, she would have been Mrs. Brown long ago and possibly had children with Oscar by now!
Title: [CEO of The Brown Group, Angrily Trying to Protect the Beautiful Secretary!]
Underneath the post, netizens commented:
[People generally don't seek out partners around them, but people of different genders will attract each other. A wealthy and distinguished man with a beautiful and glamorous female secretary. It's impossible that a workplace romance won't happen.]
[Anyway, I am the kind of person who doesn't care about people who have nothing to do with me!]
[I don't believe they don't have any feelings for each other!]
[Didn't someone previously reveal that Mr. Brown is a married man?]
[Could it be that Mr. Brown and the female secretary are actually secretly married?]
[What if the secretary is his mistress?]
Haley's emotions boiled over and she called Oscar, but he didn't answer. At that moment, Oscar was in a black Bentley with Pearl by his side, the driver in front, and Harold and Sarah was dealing with Ryan's situation.
"Why did you stop me just now?" Oscar asked angrily.
Oscar couldn't contain himself and pulled Pearl towards him. Before Pearl could react, his strong hand restrained her.
Pearl said, "You're the CEO of the Brown Group. As he said, you might have future collaborations. Besides, with so many people around, your actions could lead to negative media exposure."
"I saw another man lay hands on my wife, and I should just ignore it?" Oscar interrupted coldly before Pearl could finish, a hint of menace in his narrowed eyes.
"We're not publicly married anyway," Pearl said, avoiding Oscar's gaze. The three-year agreement on their undisclosed marriage status was ending. Pearl didn't mention it, and Oscar wouldn't deliberately seek media attention. Her identity as his former wife would remain a secret.
"I didn't expect you to take it so lightly," Oscar said, sneering. Pearl couldn't bear to look at Oscar as it pained her.
Having loved Oscar for seven years, she had hoped he would reciprocate, but they were still parting ways. Even their child might never meet their father.
Pearl felt a pang of sadness as she contemplated the hardships she might encounter in the future. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain and pressure on her chin.
Oscar forced her to look at him. With a strong smell of alcohol around him, Oscar's smile was cold and mocking. "What are you thinking about?"
Pearl took a deep breath. "What more is there to think about? You've already acted rashly and it's bound to become a hot topic. Sarah is capable, so starting tomorrow, I'll..."
Before she could finish, Oscar's grip tightened, hurting Pearl and causing her to fall silent. "Pearl, do you think the Brown Group is yours and you can leave whenever you please?"
Pearl replied, "Sarah's capabilities are evident, and with Harold, Queenie, and even your other secretaries, I feel I am redundant. I don't want to be responsible for your work anymore."
Pearl didn't want to encounter people like Ryan again.
"If you don't want to handle work, stay home for a few days. If you find it tiresome to be with my mother, stay at Serenity Haven Estates, or buy a new house." With those words, Oscar released her.
In that moment, Pearl saw gentleness in Oscar's eyes. She felt conflicted. Oscar had always known about the discord between Pearl and Hathaway but had never intervened until now. He didn't even hint at the possibility of divorce.
Pearl couldn't understand and sarcastically remarked, "The agreement is ending, and you've got what you wanted, haven't you?"
Oscar's expression turned grim. He gazed intensely at her and rebuked coldly, "Pearl, it shouldn't be you who brings up divorce. Now, go and stay quietly at Serenity Haven Estates!"
Oscar's phone rang again, and he finally answered.
Pearl clearly saw "Haley" flashing on the screen.
