Chapter 293 Strawberry Cake
What happened? Were they getting closer now?"
Haley wanted to break them up, but now it seemed like their relationship was getting stronger.
Her fingers clenched, jealousy burning in her eyes.
If she could't have him, why should Pearl? She met Oscar first and sacrificed so much for him. It was not fair.
"Haley," Oscar's sharp eyes fixed on her. "Did you hear me?"
Haley snapped out of it, softening her expression. "Yeah, I got it. No more bad press. I've taken on some projects and will focus on my career."
Her popularity had been slipping lately.
To bounce back, she needed to keep working. If she stayed focused, she'd get the recognition she deserved.
After all, it was the digital age.
Oscar just needed to coordinate work with her. "Alright."
Haley still felt Oscar had expectations for her. He had set up this entertainment company for her.
He wanted to repay her for saving him.
She couldn't bring this up, though.
She wanted Oscar to see her success. One day, she'd be at the top of the industry and make him proud.
Haley put on her sunglasses. "I have another appointment, so I'll head out."
"Okay," Oscar replied indifferently.
Haley didn't mind. She glanced at the ward again. Pearl's good days were numbered.
She'd give them some time.
One day, they'd split again.
She was sure of it.
She reluctantly glanced at Oscar before leaving.
Oscar watched her go, his eyes growing colder.
"Oscar, she looks familiar," Elijah said, finally recognizing her.
Oscar turned to him. "She saved me during a mission once."
Elijah nodded. "That's why she looks familiar."
He still felt like something was missing.
When Pearl woke up, it was evening.
She saw Oscar looking at her tenderly.
Noticing the IV in his hand, she sat up quickly.
Oscar supported her. "No rush. Want to sleep a bit more?"
Pearl said, "Why are you out of bed? You should be resting. Did I take your bed?"
She tried to get up.
Oscar pressed her down. "No, I slept enough and wanted to move around. You've been sleeping a lot."
"I've been sleeping all day?" Pearl felt groggy.
"Yes," Oscar said. "You must be hungry."
"Have you eaten?" Pearl asked. "Weren't you hungry?"
Oscar smiled. "It's late. I've already eaten. It's dinner time now."
Pearl slowly sat up. "I won't sleep anymore. Too much sleep makes me more tired."
Oscar said, "Alright, if you can't sleep tonight, we'll watch TV together."
Pearl nodded.
Oscar had just finished his IV, and they were getting ready to eat.
In the ward, Oscar had prepared a meal perfect for a pregnant woman.
He handed Pearl some soup.
Pearl took a sip and found it delicious, much better than what she could make.
Her appetite had been big lately.
Oscar sat across from her. Pearl tried a piece of foie gras but found it too fishy. "This doesn't taste good. You eat it."
She tossed it onto Oscar's plate and kept drinking her soup.
Oscar looked at the foie gras in his bowl, glanced at Pearl, and noticed how casually she relied on him for things she didn't like, which showed he was needed.
A smile tugged at his lips. "Alright, I'll eat whatever you don't like."
He ate what Pearl left behind.
Pearl didn't mind; it was instinctive.
After eating, she noticed Oscar tidying up, eating everything she left behind.
This surprised Pearl. "Why are you eating what I left?"
Oscar said, "What's wrong with that? Didn't we agree you could give me anything you don't want?"
Pearl found the situation heartwarming.
Someone like Oscar, who had always lived a privileged life, would never usually compromise, let alone eat her leftovers.
Life seemed to be moving in a good direction.
Pearl watched him eat slowly and found it sweet. She smiled and asked, "Can you eat things you don't like?"
Oscar said, "If it's from you, there's nothing I don't like."
"You sure know how to talk."
"I'm telling the truth." Oscar's deep eyes gazed at her. "What you give me becomes the best."
Pearl looked into his eyes and felt a bit shy.
They had been married for so long but rarely interacted like this. She felt a bit awkward and couldn't quickly pick up the conversation.
Oscar poured her a glass of juice and handed it to her. "Have some juice."
Pearl took it.
But suddenly, the glass fell onto the table, and the juice splashed, soaking Pearl's dress.
Oscar was surprised by her reaction.
Pearl was stunned, looking at the glass on the table.
"It's okay, I'll clean it up." Oscar stood up, pulled her up, and cleaned the juice off her.
Pearl frowned, feeling strange. She had clearly caught it. 'Why did it fall?'
She looked at her hands, wondering what was wrong.
Oscar carefully cleaned her up, but the juice was sticky. He said, "I'll have someone buy you a new dress. Don't worry about it."
Seeing Pearl's self-blaming expression, Oscar gently comforted her.
Pearl looked up at Oscar and asked, "Am I sick?"
"How could that be?" Oscar touched her face. "It's normal to occasionally drop a glass."
Pearl thought, 'Maybe it was.'
So she stopped overthinking it.
Oscar affectionately patted her head. "Do you want to eat anything else?"
"I want something sweet," Pearl said softly. "Strawberry cake."
"Alright."
Oscar snapped his fingers and then took out a strawberry cake from the cabinet.
