Chapter 818 Residents Refusing to Relocate

Saskia was focused intently on taking notes off to the side.Nathaniel seemed glued to the presentation screen, but his eyes kept wandering over to her.

No one else seemed to notice.

Until the passionate head of the project team asked, "Mr. Egan, what do you think of this plan?"

Nathaniel didn't hear him.

He called again, "Mr. Egan?"

"Not good, redo it." Nathaniel snapped out of his daze, his brows furrowing as he glanced at the screen and quickly assessed its quality, delivering his verdict without mercy.

The project team leader, who had been speaking fervently, fell silent instantly.

He couldn't shake the feeling that Nathaniel was in a bad mood. Was it just his imagination?

The meeting was abruptly cut short.

Marcus had received an urgent phone call. He entered the room with a serious expression, "Mr. Egan, there's an urgent matter that needs your attention."

Nathaniel waved the project team away, instructing them to redo the plan.

The PR team also needed to handle the public opinion.

Saskia closed her notebook and followed them out, "What's going on? You all look pretty serious."

Marcus glanced at Nathaniel, "It's about the Flower Coast District..."

Saskia understood immediately and frowned.

The Flower Coast District was land acquired by the Egan Group.

Many of the buildings there were old and dilapidated, long overdue for demolition.

Although the Egan Group was leading the project, it was actually a government initiative, so it had to be done right. But no one expected the demolition to be so difficult.

Upon hearing about the trouble, the first step was to send someone over.

Nathaniel looked at Marcus, "You should go. You're familiar with the process. Take more people to prevent any trouble, and keep the paparazzi and media at bay."

Lately, the media had been like vultures, constantly trying to dig up dirt on them, which was incredibly annoying.

Saskia suddenly spoke up, "I'll go too."

Marcus looked at her in surprise, with a hint of admiration.

He thought, 'A brave soul indeed. I don't want to handle such a thankless task, yet Saskia volunteer.'"No, it's too chaotic there." Nathaniel immediately refused.

"But it's part of my job as a secretary."

"Your job is to stay by my side and do what I tell you to do."

Nathaniel's tone was domineering and firm, leaving no room for argument, but it didn't come off as unpleasant because Saskia could sense his concern for her.

The Flower Coast District was notorious for its poor and chaotic environment.

The residents was a mixed crowd, including low-income individuals and elderly people, so most people wouldn't want to go there.

If it weren't for work, Saskia wouldn't want to deal with the hassle either.

"I can take care of myself, and besides, there will be others with me. This is my job, and I shouldn't shirk it." Saskia said calmly, her eyes resolute.

Marcus watched Nathaniel's grim expression, thinking he was about to explode, and was ready to intervene.

Surprisingly, Nathaniel restrained his emotions.

He looked deeply at Saskia, "You really want to go?"

"Yes." Saskia nodded.

Instead of stopping her, Nathaniel  instructed Marcus to take good care of Saskia.

As Marcus and Saskia left, Marcus wore a look of disbelief.

Saskia asked, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"

"No, it's just that I'm impressed you managed to convince Mr. Egan," Marcus gave her a thumbs up.

Nathaniel was known for his cold and suspicious nature. Once he made a decision, he rarely changed it.

This was the first time Marcus had seen someone make Nathaniel change his mind.

Saskia felt a bit embarrassed.

They took a cab to the Flower Coast District. As soon as they got out, the distant commotion made Saskia understand why Nathaniel didn't want her there.

"You people made my mom so sick she can't get out of bed. Pay up!"

"Block them, don't let them escape. These people want to tear down our homes and leave us homeless, then throw us a pittance to shut us up."

A group of people surrounded a few defenseless individuals.

They were holding sticks and shovels, looking like a mob of angry workers.

But this time, these people weren't in the right.

The middle-aged man in the center was sweating profusely, "We're not trying to harm you. We just want to build new houses. We've said that if you're willing, you can choose a new house, and we'll also give you relocation compensation."

"Bullshit, who wants your measly money?" Someone shouted.

The shout sparked a wave of angry protests.

Seeing the situation escalate, Saskia quickly asked Marcus, "Isn't this bad? Have the people you called arrived yet? We need to stop this."

Marcus was also anxious, "Not yet, just wait a bit longer."

If they went over now, the two of them would surely get beaten up.

He wasn't worried about himself.

But Saskia was different. If something happened to her, Marcus will be in big trouble.

So he immediately held Saskia back, advising, "Don't go over there, they outnumber us."

Saskia looked at the hostile crowd and decided against it.

But as time passed with no sign of reinforcements, she grew more anxious.

Especially when the mob decided to take the middle-aged man away.

Saskia couldn't stand it, "That's kidnapping! They have no regard for the law. This can't go on!"

Then, before Marcus could stop her, she walked over.

"Stop right there! If you try to kidnap him, I'll call the police." Saskia held up her phone, ready to dial 911.

She wasn't acting on impulse, keeping a safe distance, ready to run if needed.

A man raised an eyebrow, his voice menacing, "Who the hell are you? Mind your own business, or we'll tie you up too."

He waved his fist threateningly.

Saskia's face tightened, "Aren't you afraid of kidnapping in broad daylight?"

"Afraid of what? If anyone should be afraid, it's these rich bastards. They caused my mom's heart attack, and now she's in a coma. Who do I get justice from?"

"That doesn't mean you should..."

The man cut her off, eyeing her lecherously, "You look pretty good, and you're defending these people. You must be from that company."

Saskia felt a wave of disgust but kept her composure.

"Never mind who I am. Let him go now." Her voice turned cold

The man charged at her, his face grim, "Bitch, giving orders now, are we?"
