Chapter 451 I Wish I Had Never Met You
Carol's eyes showed a bit of hope.
Louis smirked. "Trying to make up with her?"
"Yeah." Carol clenched her fists.
"Then talk to her yourself." Louis wasn't interested in helping. He never liked Carol from the start, and her actions only made it worse.
Seeing the cross bracelet on Pearl's wrist gave him a flicker of hope.
He even wondered if the test results were tampered with.
But Giovanni had overseen everything; no one would dare.
Plus, no one knew he planned a DNA test with Pearl.
Louis turned away.
Carol watched him go, feeling small.
She'd tried so hard, even got RavenWing to set up a dinner, but Louis still treated her like this.
'Aren't we siblings?' Carol couldn't get it.
But she couldn't chase after him now; she had to figure it out herself.
Pearl was with Oscar.
She was all over the place, worried. "How are you feeling? Any discomfort? Need water? Hungry?"
She asked everything.
Oscar didn't speak; he just wanted to touch her face.
His hand shook as he reached for her. "Pearl, I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? Because I found out you were poisoned?" Pearl's voice cracked.
Oscar's voice was full of pain; he couldn't deny it.
He'd tried to hide it, set everything up, and came to Eldorians.
It was his duty, and he hoped to find a cure. He never thought Pearl would follow him. The secret he tried so hard to keep was out.
The truth always comes out.
Pearl knew his silence was an admission.
"Let's not dwell on the past. We need to find a way out of here."
After finding Barbara, she realized Barbara didn't remember her.
She hadn't seen Adrian yet, but Oscar's condition worried her more.
Pearl had also been affected by the drugs and lost her child, a lifelong pain.
She couldn't bear to think about it, which hurt too much.
"I know," Oscar said firmly. "Once we're out, you should go back to Willow Creek. Take care of the company, live your life, and don't wait for me."
Oscar held Pearl's hand tightly, his voice rough.
"What are you saying?" Pearl's eyes filled with tears, now bloodshot.
Not waiting for him meant she could marry someone else.
But she'd been with Oscar for years; they had a child, shared life and death. How could she do that?
Pearl smirked. "Oscar, do you think I'm that kind of person?"
Oscar stayed silent.
He'd prepared everything to leave her with no hope. If he survived, he'd come back to her.
If he didn't make it, a divorce would be better for Pearl than being a widow. She'd eventually move on.
Oscar took a deep breath, pushing down the pain, and gently touched Pearl's cheek, feeling immense sorrow.
"Pearl, I know you're not that kind of person. But life is uncertain. You have a long future ahead. Harold will be your best support."
With Harold, Pearl had nothing to worry about in work and career. He'd also arranged for Barbara to be by her side.
If she hadn't come to Eldorians, she'd have a great life in Willow Creek. But without him and the child, her life would be stagnant.
She'd also live with guilt towards Adrian forever.
"Pearl, I love you. If I could, I wish I had never met you." Oscar held her hand, kissing her forehead.
He spoke tenderly, but then wished he had never met her, so she wouldn't be in danger.
She didn't believe memories just appeared out of nowhere. In this world, no one meets another person without a reason; everything happens for a cause.
Pearl gripped Oscar's hand tightly, her voice hoarse. "Oscar, it's too late for that. You are my Magee; I've always idolized and admired you. When David said he wanted me to marry you, the moment I saw you, I was determined."
Maybe knowing her fate was uncertain, or maybe Oscar's honesty moved her, Pearl opened her heart.
She had never told Oscar these things, and he rarely spoke about them either. Looking back, they both seemed foolish.
Oscar wiped away her tears, swallowing some words.
Some things, though cruel to keep from Pearl, were also a form of protection.
He had one wish now: for Pearl to live well.
"I know, the child is mine."
When Pearl heard Oscar mention the child, she couldn't hold back and threw herself into his arms, crying uncontrollably.
During her pregnancy, she had been constantly on edge.
Later, when Oscar found out about the child, he wanted to abort it. In the end, he agreed to keep it, but she was still tormented day and night.
Oscar raised his hand to wipe her tears. "Pearl, I was too dense. The woman that night was you. It took me a long time to realize it."
He had even conducted an investigation, asking Pearl to investigate too. Looking back, he felt utterly ridiculous.
Pearl said hoarsely, "Oscar, that's all in the past. Let's find a way out of here, and send Barbara and Adrian back. I'll stay with you."
Oscar was poisoned because of her. Now she knew everything he did was for her; she couldn't leave him behind.
She had seen too much life and death here. She knew the people who stayed by your side were the most important.
She couldn't lose Oscar again.
As Pearl said this, tears streamed down her face.
Before Oscar could respond, applause echoed from afar, growing closer.
Pearl and Oscar looked over and saw Louis striding towards them, a deep smile on his lips.
