Chapter 593 Malicious Intentions
After dinner, Pearl was hanging out with her parents around the tea table, chatting about old times. It was super cozy.
Pearl didn't want to go to bed yet, but when Kittie playfully acted upset, she finally dragged herself to her room.
She went to the bathroom and suddenly felt something was off. Looking down, she saw blood.
"Mom! Come quick!" Pearl freaked out and instinctively called for Kittie.
Kittie rushed over and got scared too when she saw the blood on the floor.
After helping Pearl get dressed, Kittie helped her back to bed and then hurried to call Evans.
Kittie and Evans didn't waste any time and took Pearl straight to the hospital.
After checking her out, the doctor said it was a threatened miscarriage and that she needed to stay in the hospital to keep the pregnancy safe.
Kittie felt super guilty and kept apologizing to Oscar. But it really wasn't her fault.
There were lots of reasons a miscarriage could happen; it wasn't necessarily because of the trip back to the countryside.
Oscar got that and comforted Kittie, telling her it wasn't her fault and she shouldn't beat herself up.
Kittie wanted to say more, but Evans reminded her that Pearl needed to rest, so she said goodbye to Pearl with a worried look and left.
Pearl stared at the wall, feeling a wave of fear wash over her.
Oscar held her hands and comforted her, "It's okay, the doctor said it's not a big deal. Just take care of yourself, and everything will be fine."
"I'm sorry. I feel like I didn't take good care of our baby properly," Pearl said, guilt washing over her as tears welled up in her eyes.
Oscar hugged her and kissed her forehead. "It's not your fault. No one could have seen this coming. No one is to blame. Don't cry. Everything will be fine."
"Yeah, everything will be fine." Pearl looked down at her belly and then said to Oscar, "Honey, can I cuddle with you tonight?"
Oscar glanced at the small hospital bed, nodded, and carefully held her after drawing the bed curtain.
In the morning, Pearl woke up to a pleasant aroma. She opened her eyes and saw Oscar, immediately stretching out her hand lazily. "I want a hug."
"Okay, coming right up." Oscar put down the utensils in his hand, walked over, and hugged her to the head of the bed, adjusting the pillow before kissing her forehead.
Pearl pouted and acted spoiled. "I want more."
Oscar kissed her again, but just as he was about to kiss her lips, a nurse walked in, interrupting them.
The nurse coughed and teased with a smile, "Mrs. Brown, you're so lucky to have such a caring husband."
Pearl just smiled without saying anything, but her gut told her the nurse had ulterior motives.
Even though she didn't know what it was, Pearl knew she had to be cautious.
"Mr. Brown, here is today's medicine. You need to go to the nurse's station to get another dose later. Both medicines need to be taken together to be effective. Just a reminder, you should only take the medicine half an hour after breakfast," The nurse handed the medicine to him as she spoke.
As Oscar reached out to take it, she quickly brushed his arm.
Oscar showed a slight displeasure and, seeing that the nurse wasn't leaving, asked coldly, "Is there anything else?"
"No, just remember to get the medicine, Mr. Brown."
After the nurse left, Oscar went to wash his hands in disgust.
Pearl saw this but said nothing. Seeing someone trying to seduce Oscar, she knew she had to come up with a foolproof plan to deal with it.
After breakfast, Oscar went to the nurse's station to get the medicine. When he found no one there and was about to leave, he heard voices from a room inside.
"Miss Murphy, I'm here to get Pearl's medicine," Oscar said, making sure Claire Murphy knew who he was talking about.
"Mr. Brown, the medicine is here. Come in and get it," Claire called out from inside, not bothering to come out.
Oscar hesitated. He didn't know what the room inside the nurse's station was for, but being alone with Claire, especially after her earlier behavior, was a bad idea. "You should bring it out. If it's inconvenient, I'll come back later."
Just as he was about to leave, Claire said, "Mr. Brown, do you think I would do something? Don't worry, there are security cameras everywhere here. What could I possibly do?"
With that, Oscar reluctantly walked in but only stood at the door.
Claire immediately approached him. She wasn't in her nurse's uniform but a spaghetti strap dress that showed off her figure if Oscar looked down.
Oscar kept his eyes straight ahead. "Miss Murphy, where is the medicine?"
"Mr. Brown, I strained my back while getting the medicine earlier. Could you help me massage it?" Claire grabbed Oscar's hand and tried to place it on her body.
Oscar quickly pulled his hand back and pushed her away, stepping back to the door and looking at her coldly. "If you keep this up, I won't hesitate to report you to the director."
"Wait, I just couldn't help myself. If you don't like it, I won't do it again." Claire stomped her foot and walked into the room. "Fine, come in. The medicine is in the thermal box. You can get it yourself."
Oscar didn't want to deal with her, but since Pearl needed the medicine, he couldn't delay.
He walked into the room and found a thermal box on the table by the door. Inside was a small bottle.
"Take it all at once. Come back for the noon medicine later. Remember, take it half an hour after meals," Claire said, casually playing with her hair. Oscar immediately left the room.
He didn't want to stay a moment longer.
Back in the ward, Oscar didn't mention the incident. After Pearl took the medicine, he handled some work by the bedside.
At lunchtime, Oscar went out to grab some food, and Pearl watched TV alone.
Claire walked in reluctantly, placed the medicine on the table, and gave Pearl a sideways glance.
Pearl smiled. "What do you mean by that? Do I really bother you that much?"
Claire sneered, "Pearl, what makes you think you deserve to marry Mr. Brown? He's not only handsome but also rich. And you? You're old and unattractive, completely unworthy of him. If I were you, I'd wise up and leave Mr. Brown."
"Oh? Too bad you're not me." Pearl smiled calmly, which only made Claire angrier.
Claire leaned in and glared at Pearl. "I'm much younger than you and have a better figure. I'm the one who deserves him."
"Talking to me won't help. If you really have the ability, go ahead and seduce him. If you can, I'll gladly let you have him." Pearl was mindful of the baby in her belly; otherwise, she wouldn't just be talking to her. Such a shameless woman deserved a lesson.
The ward door opened, and Claire saw it was Oscar. She grabbed Pearl's hand and slapped herself with it, then fell to the ground.
"Mrs. Brown, I know I shouldn't have offended you, but I was only thinking of your well-being. Pregnant women, especially those who are a bit further along in their pregnancy, do need to be more careful. I meant no harm." Claire cried pitifully, looking very sympathetic.
Oscar looked at Pearl, who shrugged.
"She said I was old, and then grabbed my hand to hit herself. I had no choice but to go along with her." Then Pearl looked at Claire. "Did you forget there's a security camera above?"
