Chapter 614 She Wants to Leave

Janetta really didn't want flowers from Damian, but when the delivery guy showed up, she rushed out to sign for them first. She hadn't changed her mind; she just didn't want Pearl to find out.

After ripping up the card and tossing the flowers in the roadside trash, Janetta headed back inside.

The moment she walked in and saw Pearl smirking, she awkwardly smiled and made a beeline for the stairs.

"Hey, whatever you're up to, I've got your back. We're best friends, so don't worry about me finding out," Pearl said, guessing Janetta was hiding something.

Feeling guilty, Janetta licked her lips and said, "I know you care, but I don't want you stressing over me. I can handle this. Trust me, just give me some time."

Pearl looked puzzled and asked, "Is the person sending the flowers someone important? Someone even I can't mess with?"

Janetta was about to explain when Henry and Oscar walked in and overheard the flower talk.

Henry immediately walked over, grabbed Janetta's hand, and asked nervously, "Who sent you flowers? Do you like flowers? I'll buy them for you. Whatever kind you want. No, I'll buy out the whole florist for you."

His nervousness was obvious to Pearl, who thought setting them up might be a good idea.

In Pearl's eyes, Henry was way more reliable than Damian, and if Janetta and Henry got together, it might keep Damian away.

She got up, walked over to Janetta, and said, "What girl doesn't like flowers? Mr. Doe, you better follow through on what you say."

Henry quickly promised and ordered a bouquet of roses.

The roses arrived fast, and funny enough, the card had the same message as Damian's.

Janetta found it amusing to see different signatures with the same message.

The message had a hidden confession, which was fine, except one was from Damian and the other from Henry.

Both were sent to her.

The flower shop had messed up.

"What's wrong? Don't like the message? I'll write it myself next time," Henry promised again, and Janetta shoved the flowers into his arms.

"Mr. Doe, I don't want to see you. Please don't come looking for me anymore," Janetta said.

Henry wanted to try again, but Pearl stopped him.

Watching Janetta go upstairs, Henry smiled bitterly, clearly disappointed.

Pearl wanted to comfort him but realized Janetta's happiness was her own to decide, so she held back.

It had been raining for days, making Janetta's daily commute a pain. But to quickly handle the art exhibition and leave, she had to tough it out.

The art exhibition, revamped by Henry, had become a hot spot in Willow Creek.

With so many visitors, Janetta worried her works might get damaged by people who didn't appreciate them, so she made sure to check the place every day before closing.

In the pouring rain, Janetta said goodbye to the staff and headed to the bus stop.

She had booked a ride-share, but because of the rain, she had to choose the bus stop as the pickup point.

There were few people on the street, and those who were there hurried by without noticing Janetta. At such a late hour, she would've been scared if someone had approached her.

Five minutes past the agreed time, the car still hadn't shown up. Janetta sent a message to the driver but got no response. Just as she was about to call Pearl for help, a car pulled up in front of her. The rear window rolled down, and there was Damian's face.

Janetta instinctively turned to run, but Damian was quicker and grabbed her. "I'll take you home."

"No need, Pearl's on her way," Janetta lied, using the only excuse she could think of.

"I swear, I won't do anything, just take you home." Damian, trying to convince her, showed her the IV needle in his wrist. "Even if I wanted to, I don't have the strength. I've been on an IV for days, and I feel dizzy just standing here."

A gust of wind blew, and the rain hit them both. Without waiting for Janetta's response, Damian picked her up and put her in the car.

Janetta, feeling helpless, gave up struggling and stared blankly ahead.

Once in the car, Damian gently cupped her face. "Don't be like this. I haven't seen you for days. You know my heart... never mind, you don't know. Anyway, I've never lied to you. Trust me."

Janetta looked at him and said slowly, "Let me go, okay?"

Damian's face darkened, and he growled, "To the hotel."

Hearing the word "hotel," Janetta remembered the time she had threatened to kill herself and started trembling.

She tried to get out of the car, but Damian held her tightly. In desperation, she grabbed Damian's wrist.

The needle pricked Damian, causing him to release his grip in pain.

In that brief moment, Janetta opened the car door and jumped out.

The driver quickly braked, and seeing her get up and run away, he asked worriedly, "Mr. Clark, should we go after her?"

Before the driver could get a response from Damian, he saw that Damian was already running after her.

The rainy night was dark and made it hard to see, and Damian couldn't locate Janetta. After a while, he returned to the car, soaking wet and disappointed, and ordered the driver to leave.

Hiding in a corner, Janetta waited until Damian left before coming out. She didn't dare wait for the car anymore and returned to the art exhibition.

Soaked and cold, Janetta was also hungry. She thought about contacting Pearl several times but didn't want to worry her, so she hesitated for a long time before finally calling Henry.

"Janetta, it's me, Henry."

Hearing his voice, Janetta wanted to speak but couldn't make a sound. She felt feverish and her throat hurt terribly, so she hung up the phone.

Looking at the words on the wall, Janetta felt it was very ironic. A sense of pity rose in her heart, and she laughed at herself before lying down on the floor to sleep.

When she woke up, she found herself in a hospital ward and was startled. The first thing she did was to find out how she got there.

The nurse looked at her for a long time and finally pointed to Damian's room not far away, "Mr. Clark brought you here, Ms. Clark. You're still running a fever, please go back to bed. If Mr. Clark finds out, we'll all be in trouble."

Upon hearing this, Janetta felt terrified. She instinctively wanted to leave, but her body was too weak, and she had to return to bed.

She thought about leaving as soon as she felt better, determined not to have any more entanglements with Damian.

The nurse came in with a nutritious breakfast, fruits, desserts, and even magazines and books. Such treatment in a hospital could only be arranged by Damian.

Janetta refused, "Please take these things away, I don't need them. Also, when will the doctor come? I want to be discharged."

She didn't want to wait until she felt better; she wanted to leave now.
