Chapter 89 Who Told You She Was Carrying My Child?
"What?" Seraphina asked in disbelief. "It's impossible, Mom. The timing matches, I remember too, how could it not be President Oscar? You must have made a mistake."
"That's just how it happened!" the person on the phone said. "When I found out they were looking for someone, I thought you were going to marry into a rich family, but we were all mistaken. The room number was wrong, the person that night was not President Oscar, but a man in his forties or fifties."
Now Seraphina's face turned pale as she looked at her belly, becoming worried. "How could I possibly be carrying the child of a forty or fifty-year-old man?"
What a vast difference.
She had been so ecstatic for nothing.
If she hadn't been given such high expectations, she wouldn't have held any hopes.
When she found out that the man that night was Oscar, she believed it was the best decision she had ever made in her life.
She had hooked up with a wealthy and handsome man in an instant.
But the reality was that she had slept with an older man.
"Seraphina, you have to face reality. Although he is older, he is very wealthy. You won't have to worry for the rest of your life," her mother comforted her over the phone. She also understood that Seraphina was supposed to marry into a rich family, but it didn't work out.
But the result was still the same.
She needed money, and as long as she was willing to be with that old man, she would have a lot of money.
Seraphina couldn't accept this reality. The moment she hung up the phone, she still couldn't believe it as she thought, 'No, it's not possible. I'm pregnant with President Oscar's child, not someone else's. She must be lying to me!'
She covered her stomach, starting to deceive herself.
--
After leaving the hospital, Pearl didn't immediately return home.
She walked on the road, feeling low in spirits as the night wind blew.
She pondered, 'If it was just that one night, then Seraphina's child definitely wasn't Oscar's.
If they had had an affair, then this could be true.
'He wanted to find a substitute, and Seraphina coincidentally became the substitute, it wasn't something strange.
'Maybe I didn't know enough about him.'
"Honk!"
Abruptly, the blare of a car horn echoed from behind.
Pearl cast a quick glance over her shoulder, spotting a Maybach trailing her, its presence a mystery in her mind.
"Pearl!" Adrian's voice called out as he poked his head out from the car.
Pearl was surprised to see him. "I can even run into you here."
Adrian smiled and said, "You came to my company building, it's hard not to run into you."
Pearl looked at the building beside her. "What a coincidence?"
She felt a bit apologetic and said, "I'm sorry, you've been away for so long, and I haven't visited your company yet."
"It's fine, there's nothing interesting to see. My company is full of men." Adrian didn't really want to take her to visit his company, so he parked the car next to her. "Where are you planning to go? I can give you a ride."
Pearl thought for a moment before replying, "I don't know where I should go."
Adrian could tell she was troubled, so he said, "Then get in the car, I'll take you somewhere."
"Okay." Pearl got into his car.
They arrived at a pedestrian street.
There were more people here, with lots of food and entertainment, but Pearl hadn't been here before.
She didn't particularly like crowded places, so she didn't have much expectation.
They got out of the car and arrived at a square. She saw many people selling balloons. There were also many lights here.
Not far away, there was a river, and the scenery was beautiful.
"Pearl, look at that!" Adrian was waiting for this moment.
Pearl looked up and saw fireworks bursting in the sky, illuminating it even more.
Suddenly, a crowd rushed toward them.
"Look, fireworks!" exclaimed someone in the crowd.
"Don't fireworks only happen on weekends? It's only Friday today," remarked another voice.
"I don't know, who cares, as long as there are fireworks!" came a dismissive response from within the gathering.
Pearl had never seen so many types of fireworks before. In this moment, her surroundings were dazzling, and it felt like she had entered a fairy tale world.
For some reason, she felt a bit excited. Perhaps she had never imagined that fireworks could be so beautiful.
In the past, Pearl would never have been interested because she thought fireworks only bloomed for a moment and were not worth watching, and they were loud too. But being in the midst of it all, Pearl felt differently. She was captivated by the scenery in this moment.
She carefully watched the fireworks, amazed that they could even form letters and create a flower similar to a meteor shower.
Adrian glanced at Pearl and saw that she was thoroughly enjoying this moment. He smiled slightly, feeling that everything he had done was worth it.
The fireworks lasted for half an hour and attracted tens of thousands of people.
Pearl pointed out, saying, "So many people came to watch the fireworks."
"People are always attracted to beautiful things," Adrian concluded. "Do you like them?"
Pearl nodded and smiled slightly. "I quite like them, I'm impressed. I've never thought fireworks could be this beautiful."
"That's good."
However, she then looked at Adrian and asked, "I heard someone say that fireworks usually only happen on weekends and specific days. Why did they happen today?"
Adrian looked straight ahead and said, "We might just be lucky."
"In that case, I'll make a wish and hope for it to come true."
Pearl clasped her hands together, showing special devotion. She wished for her parents' health, her unborn child's safety, and for her struggles to end soon.
After making her wish, Pearl saw many people selling things and wanted to browse around. "Adrian, what's over there? It seems like they're playing ring toss."
Adrian was not sure, so he said, "It's a game."
"Let's go play too," Pearl suggested.
He nodded. "Alright."
As Pearl was walking over, she overheard someone say that the fireworks by the river only happened on specific holidays, but if someone paid a lot of money, they could be set off as well. Tonight, someone probably paid a lot to impress someone.
Upon hearing this, Pearl suddenly looked at Adrian, who was leading the way. She thought, 'Does he know that I'm unhappy, which is why he brought me to see the fireworks?'
At that moment, a Rolls-Royce was partially hidden by trees, its hazard lights blinking. The person inside looked out through the window and stared at Pearl and Adrian's backs.
Oscar's expression became grim, and he was particularly angry.
Harold knew that Oscar still cared about Pearl, otherwise, he wouldn't have immediately come to find her. But now, Oscar was having an unpleasant encounter, which only made him angrier.
Harold worriedly said, "Actually, you should have stopped Secretary Pearl. You shouldn't have let her know that Ms. Brooks is carrying your child. Then she wouldn't have..."
