Chapter 571 Bought the Wrong Movie Ticket

"Pearl, meeting you first and being with you is the best thing ever. Yeah, we've been through a lot, but I've always loved you, and that hasn't changed. People are saying you're a homewrecker, and I don't know who started that crap, but it doesn't matter. Today, I wanna say..."

The screen flashed their everyday pics, all lovey-dovey, making everyone jealous.

Oscar grabbed the mic and stood up, pulling the confused Pearl to her feet.

"Pearl, they don't get how awesome you are. They think I'm out of your league, but I know I'm the lucky one. It's an honor to be loved by you. They just don't know our story, but you do," Oscar confessed.

His eyes were teary. He wanted to clear up the homewrecker rumor, but those old photos got him all emotional.

They'd been through hell, but they stuck it out.

Pearl's eyes were misty with tears, and she shyly looked away when Oscar asked, "Do you believe I've always loved you?"

She nodded.

"Then remember, you're not a homewrecker. I've never loved anyone else. Got it?"

With that, Oscar kissed her forehead and turned to the reporters, saying, "Thanks to Mr. Davies, everyone can see the love between my wife and me today. Sorry for taking up your time, but from now on, please refer to her as Mrs. Brown."

Although everyone was already aware that she was Mrs. Brown, Oscar's emphasis initially seemed odd. However, the reporters eventually caught on. He wasn't simply emphasizing; he was proudly displaying their love.

Oscar treating Pearl so well was a not-so-subtle hint to Archie to treat Magdalen the same way.

By evening, the news was all over it, showing that Oscar's actions were a message to Archie: to be part of the Brown family, he had to treat his wife like Oscar did.

Archie saw the report and was pissed.

He threw his phone on the table. "When you suggested this, I knew something was up. Now I get it."

Oscar apologized with a grin, "Didn't think the reporters would spin it like that, Mr. Davies. Can't blame me."

Archie retorted, "Actually, I do blame you. The way you treat Pearl sets a high standard. If I can't do the same for Magdalen, then I'm not worthy of marrying her."

Archie's words left Oscar stunned. If he remembered right, Archie and Magdalen weren't even a thing yet, so how'd it get to marriage?

"Mr. Brown, you owe me." Archie's eyes sparkled.

Oscar didn't catch on and, thinking of Harvey, he agreed, "Fine, I won't cooperate with Harvey. Settled."

"That's not it. Whether you work with him or not is your call. But, Mr. Brown, the compensation I mentioned is something else."

Seeing Oscar's confusion, Archie got straight to the point. "You gotta treat me to dinner and apologize. And if you bring Magdalen along, I might forgive you."

Oscar laughed. Only Archie could make such a bold request, but a meal was no big deal.

After all, a strong partnership was worth it.

The dinner was set at a downtown hotel. Oscar booked a private room and, after telling Magdalen, he took Pearl to the movies.

Magdalen showed up at the hotel and found Archie sitting there alone. Just as she was about to bail, she got a text from Pearl.

Pearl said, things have already blown up. If she really doesn't have feelings for him, she should make it clear tonight. But if there's even a tiny spark, why not give it a shot? He might be the one.

Getting a lecture from Pearl made Magdalen both annoyed and amused.

But Pearl had a point; Archie was a good guy.

So, she decided to give it a chance.

She sat down across from Archie and said, "Looks like they won't be coming. Mind if I apologize solo?"

"Not at all. Actually, I didn't ask for compensation. I just wanted to see you, nothing more." Archie's eyes were anything but calm.

Tonight, Magdalen looked even more stunning to him.

Holding back his excitement, Archie ordered the food and, once it served, started explaining the preparation of each dish and the stories behind some of them.

Having traveled a lot since he was a kid, Archie had seen and heard way more than most. Plus, he loved learning, so he knew a lot about a lot.

Listening to him, Magdalen felt a bit out of her league.

Turned out, a lot of dishes had cool backstories. She always thought chefs just made fancy stuff to show off.

As the drinks flowed and the night went on, they both loosened up, and the conversation got easier. Before they knew it, they were sitting closer together.

Meanwhile, at the cinema, Oscar was being dragged out by Pearl.

He felt totally wronged tonight. He had asked his secretary to book the tickets, but who knew the secretary would mess up and get tickets for an animated film.

If they had brought Christopher, it might have been okay. But two adults watching a cartoon? Super awkward.

People recognized them and started whispering.

Seeing the crowd grow, Pearl let go of him and whispered, "We'll deal with this later."

"Hey, I can make it up to you right now." Oscar grinned and moved closer. "I know I messed up with the tickets. How about I treat you to some barbecue or grilled meat?"

"No, I'm on diet." Pearl pouted.

Oscar looked around and spotted a store window nearby. Holding Pearl's hand, he said, "Babe, wait here for a sec. I'll get you a gift to make up for it. Just a moment, okay?"

"Hurry up." Pearl usually wasn't like this, but with so many people watching tonight, she didn't know why she was acting up.

She felt like she was being unreasonable.

Oscar quickly came back with a dress. When he pulled out the dress, the girls around them gasped in admiration.

Pearl's lips curled up in satisfaction, her vanity totally satisfied. "How much did it cost? Was it expensive?"

With that, Pearl handed the dress back to him.

Oscar quickly explained, "I have got plenty of money. And I make that money to treat my wife. What's the use of raking it in if you're not going to enjoy it, right?"

"Okay, I want barbecue and grilled meat, and I haven't bought jewelry in a long time," Pearl said.

"Okay. Let's hit the shops after dinner. You can buy whatever you want." Oscar hugged her, and Pearl shyly kissed him on the cheek.

The crowd around them got louder and more excited.
