Chapter 468 I Will Make the Eldorians Better
Pearl didn't wake up, so Jeffery kept talking in her ear.
Finally, she stirred and saw Jeffery in front of her. "Jeffery, where are we?" she asked, her eyes clearing.
Jeffery didn't answer right away, his lips pressed into a tight line. He had thought she lost her memory, but now he realized her memory was distorted.
"We're in a cave. You had a fever, and I couldn't keep moving with you. Carol, look at me. I need to tell you something important."
He let go of her but kept a firm grip on her shoulders. The seriousness in his eyes made Pearl realize the gravity of the situation. "Jeffery, what is it?"
After a moment, Jeffery said, "Carol, we met because you came to the lab."
He explained how she had appeared in a white dress, protecting him and Barbara in the slave camp. She was out of place there, but no one dared harm her. She was like an angel, trying to protect everyone, though her power was limited.
Pearl's subconscious was filled with other people's memories, a condition known as empathy.
Jeffery continued, "We escaped the slave camp because you set a fire. I don't know how you ended up in Willow Creek, but back then, no one dared harm you. You were never treated as an experiment. Louis and RavenWing both loved you."
He rolled up her sleeve, revealing a circular white scar. "Carol, this is from when you got burned saving me. I was under the influence of drugs, lost control, and pushed you. A hot iron ball fell on your hand. Only you and I know about this."
He had been terrified RavenWing would find out and punish him. But Carol never mentioned it. Jeffery, with his medical skills, had helped clear away the scar, leaving only a faint white spot.
Pearl was speechless, her throat tight. She had always thought the spot was a birthmark, but Jeffery knew its exact origin.
Jeffery had given her the bracelet and risked his life to save her. He couldn't be lying. This confirmed she was indeed Carol.
She used to hold onto fantasies, but now they were shattered. She was Carol, Louis's sister, and RavenWing's daughter.
The Eldorians had done so many bad things and were against Oscar.
She didn't know how to feel.
"Carol, I didn't want to tell you all this, but I had no choice. I can't let you be trapped in other people's memories," Jeffery said, stroking her head. He just wanted her to be okay.
Even though he knew Pearl's heart was with Oscar, as long as she was okay, that was enough for him.
Pearl suddenly remembered her standoffs with Oscar over Magee. So, Magee didn't exist either; he was just a figment of her imagination or someone else's memory.
Pearl was devastated. This wasn't empathy; it was an illness!
She covered her face with her hands, tears falling through her fingers. They didn't even have a phone, and Kevin was still hunting them.
She wanted to be with Oscar, but it seemed impossible.
Jeffery stayed silent, just by her side. He was sure of one thing: he wouldn't leave her again. Even if he died, he'd stay by her side.
"I'll go out and see if there's anything to eat. Carol, wait here and don't go anywhere, okay?"
"I understand," Pearl said hoarsely.
She was on the run with Jeffery; where could she go now? She couldn't run around and drag Jeffery down.
Meanwhile, Oscar was trying to track Pearl and Jeffery but had no luck. Louis had already reorganized the Eldorians and stopped pursuing the slave rebellion.
With RavenWing in a coma, he didn't have to consider his presence anymore.
"Oscar, I didn't expect your feelings for Pearl to be so deep," Louis said, walking towards him.
If Oscar hadn’t shown up while being ill, he would have had a better plan. Kevin thought two bullets could take him down, but that wasn’t the case.
He had long known Kevin had a plan and wanted to let Kevin enjoy his moment of triumph. But he hadn't expected Oscar to bring so many people for Pearl.
"I know her well," Oscar said quietly.
He knew about the relationship between Pearl and Louis. He could distinguish between them and respected all of Pearl's wishes. No matter how opposed they were, his feelings for Pearl would never change.
He still had his original plan.
"With Eldorians in this state, I can't let her come back. But Oscar, without Kevin and RavenWing, I will make Eldorians better," Louis said, determined.
If the Eldorians became better, Pearl could return and be admired by everyone. Why should Pearl and the Eldorians be separated?
