Chapter 237 The Child in Pearl's Belly is Mine
"Oscar..."
Pearl was about to call out when she saw Oscar on the phone. He turned around, not noticing her, and walked past, saying, "Keep this under wraps. Don't let anyone know about Haley's condition."
Oscar brushed past Pearl like she was invisible.
Pearl felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.
She was worried about Magdalen, but Oscar seemed deeply concerned about Haley. He was afraid it would affect Haley's career.
Pearl knew she shouldn't overthink it, but what she saw planted a seed of doubt in her heart.
Seeing Oscar so busy with Haley, he must be very worried. Pearl didn't want to trouble him and instead headed to the office.
The doctor would surely give Pearl a precise answer.
After discussing Haley's condition with the doctor, Pearl learned that Haley was completely deaf in both ears.
Pearl knew Haley couldn't sing anymore and had a hearing problem in one ear, but how did it affect both ears?
The doctor also told Pearl that Haley's ears could have fully recovered. Oscar had previously hired top-notch doctors to treat her, ensuring that Haley would get better.
Even if her voice couldn't be restored to its former state, her hearing could.
This sudden deafness in both ears was unexpected, leaving them without answers.
If Haley never recovered, she might be permanently deaf and would have to wear hearing aids in the future.
Pearl was a bit shocked.
Haley had quite a few physical ailments.
Pearl asked another question, "Is Haley's condition congenital?"
Some people might not have had hearing problems before, but as they age, hidden genes might manifest.
The doctor shook his head. "No, it's acquired. Such conditions occur due to severe head trauma or ear injuries."
Pearl had heard that Haley had some physical defects before, but she hadn't looked into it.
'Since it wasn't congenital and there was a chance of improvement, how did it get worse to the point of complete deafness?'
Pearl felt it couldn't be that simple.
Magdalen might get into trouble today.
Pearl was still worried.
"Alright, thank you, doctor." Pearl then left.
Pearl didn't wait with the others for Haley to come out but returned to the ward.
Pearl searched for all the videos and news about Haley available online, but there was no information about Haley's deafness.
Suddenly, even Haley's hospital visit today wasn't in the news.
It was a bit strange.
Just as Pearl was lost in thought, the ward door suddenly pushed open.
Pearl looked up to see Adrian standing breathlessly at the door. The moment he saw her, he sighed in relief.
"What are you doing here?" Pearl was a bit surprised. She hadn't told Adrian she was at the hospital.
Adrian's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally relaxed. "I heard from Elliott that you were in the hospital. I was worried about you, so I rushed over to see you. I'm glad you're okay. It was a false alarm, thank goodness!"
Adrian repeated himself several times, showing how concerned he was.
Hearing Adrian's words, Pearl understood.
Pearl had work-related dealings with Elliott and couldn't go, so she informed Elliott, then he told Adrian.
"Why did he tell you? I didn't want you to worry. Look at you, all sweaty." Pearl and Adrian always maintained some distance.
As classmates and old friends, they were bound to meet. Pearl felt grateful to Adrian but didn't want to trouble him too much.
She owed Adrian too much and couldn't repay it all.
"I'm fine," Adrian said, walking in and wiping his sweat with a smile. "I'll be okay in a moment. I rushed over from home and didn't have time to change my clothes."
Pearl smiled at him. "Please, have a seat. I'll get you a glass of water!"
"No need. I'll get it myself!" Adrian insisted, not wanting to trouble her. "Is the baby alright?"
Pearl sat back down. "Elliott even mentioned this to you!"
Adrian poured himself a glass of water and drank, smiling without saying a word.
Pearl remarked, "He tells you everything. I suspect he's your informant. As soon as something happens to me, he immediately reports it to you."
"No," Adrian placed the glass aside. "He and I get along well. Since we're all classmates, we just chat a bit more."
"That's good. Otherwise, I wouldn't have any privacy," Pearl joked.
Adrian's eyes were fixed on her belly.
"The baby is still there. It's just a bit of bleeding. It's not serious. The doctor told me to rest more," Pearl informed him.
Adrian asked, "How many months along is the pregnancy?"
"Over two months," Pearl replied honestly. "I didn't know before, so I didn't tell you. Actually, I've been very careful. It's my first time being a mother, and I lack experience. There are always mistakes."
Adrian looked at her belly tenderly and asked, "Is the baby Oscar's?"
This question made Pearl fall silent.
She didn't know if she should say.
She had been hiding this, not wanting anyone to know, fearing that Oscar wouldn't take responsibility for the child.
Since that was the case, she didn't need Oscar to be responsible.
She could deny it, but Pearl didn't want to lie to him.
Some people were so important to Pearl that telling them a lie felt like a grave sin.
Adrian saw Pearl's hesitation and said understandingly, "It's okay if you don't want to say. I know you want to divorce Oscar. You probably don't want this child to be connected to him."
Pearl didn't expect Adrian to understand her so well. She smiled. "You know me so well that I feel any lie I tell you would be seen through."
"Don't worry. Even if I sense you're lying, I won't expose you," Adrian reassured her.
Adrian gave Pearl the feeling that whatever she did was right.
He would believe her unconditionally.
He also gave Pearl the courage to tell him anything, knowing he would keep her secrets.
After hesitating for a long time, Pearl spoke, "Oscar and I have many differences. Despite being together for so long, we still don't trust each other enough. We're not suitable for each other, which is why I want a divorce. But we haven't divorced yet, and many things are entangled, making it very difficult. I don't know what to do. I'm torn."
Even if Pearl didn't say it, Adrian could see that Pearl had never been happy.
Adrian regretted letting Pearl be with Oscar, forgetting that she would suffer by his side.
Without thinking, he said, "I have a way."
Pearl widened her eyes, looking at Adrian, wanting to know what his solution was.
"Do you trust me?" Adrian asked Pearl.
Pearl nodded. She certainly trusted him. At least, Adrian had never been unreliable.
Adrian then made a phone call, his tone as gentle as ever. "Weren't you investigating who the father of the child is? The child in Pearl's belly is mine."
