Chapter 330 She Doesn't Need Me Anymore
Pearl collapsed into Oscar's arms, tears streaming down her face.
"Let go of me!" she shoved him away, glaring. "I don't need your pity."
"Pearl," Oscar said, sounding helpless.
She took a step back, still sneering. "Don't look at me like that. We're done after the divorce. Take your people and leave."
"How could I not care about you?" Oscar stepped closer. "It's not what you think!"
"Stay back! That's enough!" Pearl screamed. "I hate you, Oscar. You kept me in the dark, and Adrian risked his life for me. If anything happens to him, I'll never forgive you!"
Oscar's face grew complicated. "Is this about Adrian?"
"Isn't he a hundred times better than you?" Pearl shot back. "He'd risk his life for me. Would you? You chose someone else when I needed you most!"
"So that's how you see me," Oscar said, sadness in his voice.
Pearl's lips curled into a cold smile. "How else should I see you? Go be with Haley. You can't play the hero here!"
"Oscar, there's no chance for us anymore!" She kept backing away, then turned and left.
This time, she didn't get caught in the rain, disappearing from Oscar's sight.
Oscar stood frozen, her words echoing in his mind, each one a dagger to his heart.
Her words were all about Adrian. Since Adrian risked his life to find the antidote for her, it seemed her heart had moved closer to Adrian.
So what did he count for?
"Oscar!" Seeing Oscar standing alone in the rain, motionless, like a soulless machine. Elijah and Nicholas were very worried. "The rain is heavy, let's get in the car."
Elijah stood beside him, holding an umbrella over his head.
Oscar's eyes were bloodshot, his fists clenched tightly. Despite his suppressed emotions, he didn't say a word.
He arrived in all his glory, but who knew what he was going through.
The car slowly left the place.
Pearl walked step by step towards home.
But her eyes grew redder, and the tears kept falling.
She finally stopped walking. She couldn't be heartless. She looked back at the departing car.
Maybe this was for the best.
This way, she wouldn't drag anyone else down. She didn't want to be a burden to anyone anymore.
Pearl looked up, wiped away her tears, but the sky was gray. Even God was crying for her.
Pearl forced a bleak smile, and disappeared around the corner.
--
"Oscar, since Ms. Harris already knows, why don't you just tell her the truth? It's better than you two misunderstanding each other like this," Elijah said to him.
Nicholas added, "If Ms. Harris knew you were seeking the antidote for her, she would definitely be grateful."
They were all trying to persuade Oscar.
If this continued, their relationship would only develop cracks.
Oscar looked a bit disheveled. He had been glamorous when he left the party, but now he was soaked by the rain.
Elijah and Nicholas spoke to him from either side, urging him to explain to Pearl.
He said lightly, "How's the antidote? Do you have any other solutions?"
Elijah and Nicholas were stumped.
While Oscar dealt with Haley, they had to find the antidote too.
"But it's not just Adrian risking everything for her. You are too," Elijah said, feeling indignant. Pearl didn't see all Oscar had done.
Oscar frowned. "I didn't expect Adrian to find out."
He hadn't expected Adrian to risk going to the Eldorians alone.
"There will be other ways," Nicholas said. "But right now, Ms. Harris needs comfort too."
Oscar smiled bitterly. "Didn't you see? She hates me now. If I go, I'll just make her more annoyed."
He took off his wet coat and went upstairs to change.
Elijah and Nicholas followed, feeling his sadness and helplessness.
They had been with him for years and rarely saw him so desolate.
Even the strongest person was vulnerable in the face of emotions.
"Solving the real problem is more important," Oscar said calmly. Despite Pearl's blame and hatred, he knew what he needed to do.
He had to find the antidote first!
The sound of an engine came from outside.
Haley drove up.
After the party, she rushed over.
Wearing high heels, she walked in and saw them all soaked, not having had time to change.
Haley's face showed concern. "Oscar, why did you get caught in the rain? Haven't you changed yet? What are you all doing, letting Oscar get wet? What if he catches a cold!"
She walked up, showing concern for Oscar.
Elijah and Nicholas watched silently, saying nothing.
Oscar didn't speak, just looked at Haley. When she took a towel to wipe him, he grabbed her hand, his cold eyes staring at her. "When can I get the antidote?"
He asked the same question again.
Haley had heard this countless times, and it always annoyed her.
Haley's lips curled slightly. "Didn't I say? You'll have the antidote on our wedding day. Why are you in such a hurry?"
"When are we getting married?"
Haley thought for a moment. "After I finish this movie. It's very important to me. Then I can marry you!"
Oscar pressed his lips tightly, his eyes growing colder. "Can Pearl hold on until then?"
"I'll make sure she does!" Haley said confidently. "It's just a matter of time. Don't worry, I won't let her die!"
"Do you really have the antidote?" Oscar asked suspiciously.
"Of course," Haley said confidently. "I've gone to great lengths for you!"
Oscar might have been suppressing his emotions for too long. He grabbed Haley's neck with one hand, his eyes cold and fierce. "You better not deceive me. If you don't keep your word, I'll kill you."
Haley felt pain in her neck, her face turning pained. She grabbed Oscar's arm with both hands, struggling to say, "Without me, she won't survive either!"
Oscar let go of her but couldn't suppress his inner anger.
Haley coughed violently, looking up at Oscar. His cold eyes showed no trace of pity for her.
At this moment, she felt a lot of panic.
On the surface, she had Oscar, but they were growing further apart.
His heart was more with Pearl.
Seeing him drenched, Haley asked, "Did you go to see Pearl?"
Oscar replied, "She doesn't need me anymore."
