Chapter 510 Don't Be Like Before

'That's not gonna happen,' Jeffery thought, snapping out of it. He couldn't be Oscar; he was Jeffery. Even if he couldn't be Pearl's lover, he could still be her friend. He lived for her.

When Oscar came back with the medicine, Pearl had already finished her bath. Her wet hair hung over her shoulders, and the room smelled faintly of roses. Oscar quickly wrapped her hair in a towel. "Lower your clothes a bit, I'll put on the medicine."

Pearl complied, and he carefully applied the medicine, even blowing gently on her skin to avoid causing her pain. But Pearl was used to pain. As a war correspondent, she'd once had a steel bar pierce her foot. She was supposed to rest for six months but was back on the battlefield in just over three. She'd learned to handle minor pains because, in war, there was no room for being delicate.

"Pearl, I'm sorry. I've left you alone all these years," he said, eyes welling up but holding back tears so they wouldn't fall on her.

Pearl's throat tightened. She knew Oscar would be with her if he could. She smiled slightly. "Oscar, let's not dwell on the past. We need to focus on staying by Christopher's side."

She wanted to make a decision with Oscar, but some things were hard to say out loud, even if one had expected the worst. "I know. No matter what, our family will be together."

After applying the medicine, Oscar held Pearl for a long time before letting go. Once he finished his bath, they went to check on Christopher in the lab. To their shock, Christopher looked pale, a clear sign of poisoning.

Pearl was devastated. "How could this happen? Isn't the seven-leaf clover supposed to be a cure?"

Could there be a traitor among the Eldorians? Was someone poisoning him on purpose?

RavenWing held Pearl's hand. "Don't worry. This isn't poisoning. It's a normal reaction to the seven-leaf clover. The color fades in an hour or two, and Christopher will look better."

Pearl's eyes filled with tears. "Really? You're not lying to me?"

"Why would I lie? I wouldn't joke about Christopher's life. The Eldorians are well-managed by Louis, and security has been tight since you brought Christopher here. There's no way a poisoning incident could happen," RavenWing said confidently.

Oscar wrapped his arm around Pearl's waist. "Pearl, trust your father."

RavenWing looked at Oscar. Pearl had never acknowledged RavenWing, but Oscar did now. "Father" was a heavy word for Pearl.

For Pearl, her parents were Evans and Kittie, not the ruthless RavenWing. But now, RavenWing was trying to save Christopher. Even if she didn't acknowledge it, everyone knew RavenWing was her biological father. He was helping her purely out of blood relations; otherwise, he wouldn't care if she or Christopher died in front of him.

"Why don't we wait outside for the results?" Oscar suggested, holding her as they walked out, worried she might overthink if she stayed.

But Pearl was determined. "Since he's not poisoned, I must stay with him. I need to be here when he wakes up. Otherwise, I won't leave."

No one could change her mind. If she stayed, Oscar would stay too. However, RavenWing gave Oscar a look.

Oscar placed his hand on Pearl's shoulder. "I'll be right back."

"Okay."

Oscar and RavenWing stepped outside the lab. RavenWing pursed his lips and said, "I hope you can put in a good word for me with Pearl. Although we were on opposite sides before, and I know your current status, I'm still willing to bow to you for Pearl's sake. She's my only daughter, and she cares about you. She'll listen to you."

RavenWing wasn't the former leader of the Eldorians now; he was just an ordinary father. "I'll try to persuade her, but Pearl has her own thoughts. She won't just do whatever I say," Oscar replied frankly.

RavenWing understood but was willing to try any chance he had. "I know, but I still hope you can guide her. She's worried about Louis, which means she's starting to accept him. As for me, she wouldn't even talk to me before. I've made many mistakes, but I've never wronged her."

His every thought was for Pearl's well-being. He thought, 'Pearl wants to be with Oscar, but Charles disagrees. For Pearl's sake, I can even send people to eliminate Serenea or unite with other countries to attack Serenea.'

Although RavenWing didn't say these thoughts to Oscar, Oscar could see everything from his expression. Oscar didn't advocate for war, so he made it clear. "I'll handle everything on my end. Just don't do what you did before."

Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone can change. If Pearl could grow, she could also accept the truth. "That's for the best," RavenWing said.

Two hours later, the pallor on Christopher's face finally faded. Oscar saw the joy on Pearl's face and walked over to her. Just as he was about to speak, Christopher opened his eyes. Seeing Oscar and Pearl together, he smiled immediately.

Pearl kissed his forehead and asked softly, "Is there anything you want to eat? Or anything you want?"
