Chapter 859 Thinking About Her Convenience Until Death
Barbara wasn't swayed by Pearl's words, and Pearl decided not to push it.
After dinner, Pearl took Christopher and Barbara to the hospital to visit RavenWing, with Oscar driving them.
RavenWing had thought about coming home, but Pearl had put her foot down.
At the hospital, RavenWing's condition could be monitored around the clock, and Pearl was terrified of any sudden emergencies. She couldn't handle any more shocks.
RavenWing lit up when he saw Christopher.
Christopher moved closer to RavenWing, who was holding Emily. He gently pinched her cheeks, making Emily smile.
"RavenWing, am I invisible or something?" Barbara joked.
RavenWing's attention was solely on the kids, completely ignoring everyone else.
It was only then that RavenWing noticed Barbara. "Oh, Barbara! It's been a while. Sorry, these old eyes didn't see you."
"It's fine. How could I compete with your adorable grandkids? How have you been feeling?" Barbara teased, not actually upset.
RavenWing replied, "I'm doing alright, nothing too serious. Pearl, Louis, and Jimena have all gone back to Eldorians. I was thinking, maybe I should be discharged."
"You can't be discharged. I'm not experienced, and Jeffery runs a hospital, he's super busy. Being at home wouldn't be as good as being here."
They could set up an ICU-level room at home, but no one at home was as professional as the hospital staff.
Pearl felt it was better for RavenWing to stay in the hospital.
But RavenWing didn't want to stay in the hospital anymore. "I talked to the doctor, and he said I could be discharged. I think I'd be much happier at home."
At home, he could be with his grandkids, talk and play with them, and keep himself distracted. In the hospital, he woke up to the sound of machines and the smell of disinfectant, which he hated.
Pearl wanted to argue, but Oscar patted her shoulder. "Dad, if you want to go home, then we'll go home."
RavenWing understood Pearl's concerns and didn't blame her. He even sympathized with her. "I'll come to the hospital for chemo. Don't worry, I'm at peace with it. If it comes to it, even if I die, I'll be happy seeing my family."
RavenWing had already decided that if he died, he wanted to be buried in Willow Creek, not Eldorians. Pearl and Oscar were planning to stay in Willow Creek long-term, and it would be easier for Pearl to visit him there.
As for Louis, RavenWing had always known how capable and excellent he was. He had spent more time with Louis than with Pearl.
But he hadn't told Pearl yet.
Pearl's eyes welled up with emotion. "Don't say that. Medical technology is so advanced now, and we're actively treating you. Didn't you say you wanted to help me with the kids?"
RavenWing had done many bad things in the past, but he was her father, and he had changed. He had helped rebuild Eldorians and supported many children in Willow Creek.
RavenWing was great with kids, and Pearl couldn't be indifferent.
"Yeah, I still want to help with the kids," RavenWing said, his voice steady. "Let's go home soon. I miss your cooking, especially your fish."
"You can't eat fish. Your health requires a bland diet," Pearl reminded him, wanting to cater to his tastes but needing to consider his health.
RavenWing smiled. "Everything's been so tasteless lately. I just want something with flavor."
Pearl was about to protest when Oscar patted her shoulder and said, "We'll handle the discharge paperwork and let Pearl cook for you at home."
"Alright," RavenWing agreed.
Since RavenWing was on board, Pearl didn't argue further.
Oscar drove them home, with Emily in RavenWing's arms. Barbara said goodbye to Pearl at the hospital.
At home, Pearl headed straight to the kitchen, with Oscar helping her. "Dad's condition doesn't look good. If he wants to come home, let him. Let him eat what he wants and fulfill all his requests. Also, call Louis and have them come over."
Oscar had seen his grandfather in a similar state before he passed away. He noticed that RavenWing's complexion was poor and his eyes were clouded.
Pearl felt a sharp pain in her heart, struggling to accept the reality. "I can't accept this. Oscar, is there really no way? He's undergoing chemotherapy, his mindset is good, I..."
Pearl was on the verge of tears.
She had thought everything was moving towards the best outcome, but now she was faced with heartbreaking news.
"Death is inevitable. When I was in peacekeeping, I saw many people near death. Pearl, let's treat him well."
No matter what bad things RavenWing had done before, his current condition was undeniable.
Pearl trembled as she called Louis. When Louis answered, he already sensed the situation. Pearl told him, "It's not that bad, but his condition doesn't look good. You should come over."
"Alright, Jimena and I will head over now."
Louis and Jimena had visited before. Jimena had wanted to stay, but it wasn't convenient for her to take care of things, and Louis had responsibilities in Eldorians. Pearl had asked them to go back, but they were always ready.
Jimena stayed by Louis's side. Louis seemed unaffected, but Jimena knew his heart was fragile.
RavenWing was his father; how could he be indifferent?
Louis held Jimena's hand. "Don't worry about me. I'm fine. Let's just get there on time."
For Pearl, this meal would have been impossible without Oscar's help. When the food was served to RavenWing, he ate heartily.
Aware of his impending death, RavenWing had many cravings. "Pearl, cook for me at home during this time. I'll help with the kids. By the way, I didn't mention this at the hospital, but when I die, bury me in Willow Creek's cemetery. It'll be easier for you to visit me."
Pearl's heart trembled, pained, and her breathing became difficult.
She hadn't expected RavenWing to think about her convenience even in death.
