Chapter 796 Deterioration

Saskia was at a loss for words, unsure of how to start.

Years ago, she had wronged Nathaniel. How could she possibly hurt him now?

Nathaniel stepped closer, his dark eyes locking onto her panicked gaze.

He pressed, "Feeling a bit of remorse, a touch of hesitation?"

Saskia forced a bitter, mocking smile. "Nathaniel, I don't think there's anyone more ruthless than me. If I had a soft heart, I wouldn't have left for money back then."

Nathaniel's pupils contracted sharply.

He seemed to have forgotten this long-standing truth that had weighed heavily on his mind, numbing himself and deceiving himself—how utterly absurd it was.

However, the culprit was doing all this with a clear conscience.

"Do you want me to let you go?" Nathaniel's hand pressed against the edge of the bed. His eyes, like stars drawing closer, were filled with a cruel smile.

"Dream on! Saskia, people need to pay a price to understand what can and cannot be done."

Saskia looked into his icy eyes, her hand trembling slightly, almost spilling the water.

She bit her lip, looking at Nathaniel, and let out a bitter laugh.

She said, "Is it worth it to break your peaceful life just to get back at me?"

"You overestimate yourself, Saskia," Nathaniel spoke slowly, as if he were a god, controlling everything.

Saskia couldn't escape his control no matter what.

She remained silent, sipping her water quietly.

The sweet water soothed her burning throat, gradually calming her down.

Nathaniel threw the medicine at her. "Take it; don't die here."

Saskia took it and swallowed it. The bitterness spread in her mouth, but she didn't feel it.

She said, "You didn't have to take me in."

"If you die, who will pay the debt?" Nathaniel scoffed.

Saskia bit her lip and was silent for a moment.

The debt Nathaniel spoke of reminded her repeatedly of what she had done and the hardships she had endured.

"I don't have such a bad memory, and I don't think I owe you. Isn't it better to part ways peacefully?" Saskia looked up, forcing a pale, weak smile.

At that moment, the atmosphere in the room seemed to grow heavier.

Nathaniel only felt Saskia was cruel.

After so many years of love, she could leave just like that.

"Saskia, well done!" After a moment of silence, he threw out this sentence and turned to leave.

"Wait," Saskia called out to him.

Nathaniel hesitated but stopped.

Saskia choked back a sob. "Is there any news about Benjamin?"

Hearing the faint sob in her voice, Nathaniel softened a bit. "Don't worry, I'll bring Benjamin back."

"Thank you." Saskia lowered her head, full of sincerity.

If she were to die tomorrow, the person she most wanted to see was Benjamin. As long as she could see him safe, what did it matter if she died?

Nathaniel said nothing more and walked out.

After taking the medicine, she felt her fever ease a bit. The silence outside created an eerie, deserted atmosphere.

She lay down slowly, her body aching terribly, as if needles were pricking her.

Even after adjusting, she couldn't sleep peacefully. She had many dreams.

She dreamed of her youth, filled with ambition, determined to become a lawyer after graduating from college and meeting the love of her life.Yet fate had its own plans, and all the twists and turns in life happened unexpectedly. Destiny had already chosen her path, pushing her forward relentlessly, with no way to turn back.

"Saskia!"

Saskia suddenly opened her eyes, seeing Nathaniel's figure faintly in the haze.

She chased after him, teasing, "Nathaniel, you're really becoming more like a lawyer."

Nathaniel's expression didn't soften at her words. Instead, he squinted his eyes, stepping closer. "Why the familiarity? How will you repay what you owe me?"

Saskia pounded her head.

What's going on? Why does it feel like she's forgotten so much? Yes, they were already like strangers now.

She looked up, and Nathaniel had already grabbed her neck, veins bulging under his pale skin.

He exclaimed, "How will you repay?"

He stepped closer, menacing and terrifying.

Sweat beads formed on her forehead as Saskia pleaded, "Nathaniel, don't come closer!"

Endless nightmares swallowed her, knowing it wasn't real, but unable to wake up!

Meanwhile, Nathaniel stood by the bed, his lips tightly pressed.

He murmured, "Are you that afraid of me? If you're so scared, why did you leave me?"

Saskia on the bed obviously wouldn't give him an answer. She clutched her collar tightly, sweating profusely, her face pale.

Seeing this, Nathaniel sensed something was wrong.

He quickly leaned down, trying to wake the deeply trapped Saskia, gently patting her cheeks. His voice carried a hint of unnoticed tenderness. "Saskia, wake up; you're dreaming."

But the moment he touched her skin, he sensed that something was off.

He carefully checked and found she was burning up. Hadn't she just had an injection and taken medicine? How could she be feverish again?

No matter how he called, Saskia seemed unresponsive, clutching her collar, mumbling in her sleep. "No, please."

She was like a weak kitten, softly murmuring, her claws lightly scratching at Nathaniel's heart.

Unable to handle it, he called Quincy.

"Nathaniel, what's up now?" It was late, and Quincy's voice sounded clearly tired.

Nathaniel couldn't care about that now.

He said, "Come quickly; it's an emergency."

"Your lover is sick again?" Quincy joked, not in a hurry.

He had checked before; it was just a common fever. What couldn't a young person bounce back from? It was nothing more than that.

"Stop joking. I think something's wrong." Nathaniel looked at the suffering Saskia on the bed, his tone heavy. "You have ten minutes, get here immediately."

"Nathaniel, I need to change clothes, and it's a long distance. Ten minutes means speeding." Quincy was exasperated.

Nathaniel gave Quincy no chance to delay.

He said, "You have nine minutes and fifty seconds left."

"You bastard." Quincy cursed and quickly hung up.

Ten minutes later, with the roar of a sports car, Quincy appeared at the door.

He was out of breath, not even having time to drink a glass of water before Nathaniel dragged him to the second-floor room.

He said, "Look, what's happening? She had an injection and took medicine, but she's still not getting any better. I touched her, and she's burning up; I can't wake her."
