Chapter 578 The Strange Woman
After crashing at the hospital with Oscar all night, Pearl headed downstairs to grab some breakfast and spotted Alina making a beeline for the inpatient department.
Pearl just smirked, not giving it much thought.
But then Alina strolled over and gave her a quick look-over as she called out, "Pearl."
"Surprised to see me doing just fine?" Pearl noticed a red mark on Alina's face, like someone had slapped her. She couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Alina snapped, "What's so funny? You're the one who told me about Gabriella, right? Trying to wreck my family?"
Pearl was caught off guard, not expecting Alina to catch on so quick.
She nodded. "Yeah, I did. Compared to what you've done, this is me going easy on you."
Alina cursed, "I'll fight you to the end."
With that, she lunged at Pearl, who dodged easily.
Alina missed and crashed into the reception desk, sending stuff flying. Nurses rushed over.
One nurse held Alina back while another checked on Pearl.
"Mrs. Brown, you okay?" the nurse asked, concerned.
Pearl shook her head and walked up to Alina, giving her another once-over. "You shouldn't be blaming me; you should be thanking me."
Alina shot back, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known my husband had a mistress. I wouldn't have caused a scene, and my husband wouldn't have divorced me. I want to kill you."
"What's wrong with you? I was just trying to help. Since that's the case, forget it." Pearl knew the nurses would hold Alina back, so she whistled and strolled out of the hospital, leaving Alina to throw her fit.
Later, she found out that Alina and Gabriella had a blowout, and Gabriella got pushed, ending up in the hospital to protect her pregnancy.
Alina had a daughter, but Ole always wanted a son. Somehow, he found out Gabriella was pregnant with a boy.
Ole doted on Gabriella, and after Alina's meltdown, he chose Gabriella without hesitation.
It was so satisfying. Pearl was in a great mood that day. After taking Oscar home, she went grocery shopping and cooked.
Leaving the supermarket, she noticed someone tailing her. Pearl led them to a quiet spot on purpose.
At the end of an alley, she turned to face the two guys following her and sneered, "Did Alina send you?"
"Yeah, Mrs. Berg said she'd give us an extra $50,000 if we got some dirt on you."
"You'll only lose a little. Why not help us out?" The two guys lunged at her.
Pearl sidestepped, grabbed one, and slammed him into the wall, then kicked the other guy.
"No wonder Mrs. Berg told us to be careful. You've got some moves." They both pulled out knives and moved in.
Pearl calmly picked up a nearby stick, saying, "Did Mrs. Berg mention if there's compensation if I kill you?"
"You're quite bold. I like it." The guys charged again, and Pearl took them down with ease.
In no time, both guys were on the ground, clutching their legs and screaming. Pearl picked up their knives, kicked each of them, and walked out of the alley.
Not far away, a car pulled up. Alina and two burly guys got out and blocked her path.
"Grab her right now," Alina shouted, and the two guys moved in on Pearl.
Pearl just stood there, grinning as they got closer.
Right when they were about to make a move, a police car rolled up. Two officers hopped out and cuffed them.
"I don't know these guys. I was just passing by," Alina tried to play it cool, but Pearl had already called the cops at the end of the alley. The guys' statements nailed her, so the police didn't buy her story and took her away.
"Mrs. Brown, you alright?" Officer Leon Spencer asked, and Alina's jaw dropped when she heard "Mrs. Brown."
She stared at Pearl, stunned. "You're Oscar's wife?"
Pearl smirked, "Don't I look the part?"
Alina was crushed.
After dealing with Alina, Pearl felt even better. She ordered a massive cake, and when Oscar asked why, she just shrugged and said she wanted it.
Oscar didn't call her out, just played along. The cops had already filled him in.
As for Alina and her goons, they'd face the law.
After dinner, Pearl prepped some fruit and headed to the study.
She spotted Harvey's contract right away and asked, confused, "Weren't you done with Harvey? What's up with the change of heart?"
"Archie said the batch of drugs Harvey swapped out is still MIA. He wants me to dig into it," Oscar explained, handing her the papers.
He then continued, "I thought about it, and the timing lines up with when your dad and the others got ambushed. If I remember right, the attackers suddenly had more people. I suspect..."
Pearl cut in, "You think the drugs might've been sold to those guys."
Oscar nodded, and Pearl's eyes went wide.
If that was true, she'd make Harvey pay big time.
"Have you told my dad about this?" Pearl asked.
She didn't want RavenWing to know too soon. With his temper, he'd nab Harvey first and ask questions later. That wouldn't fly.
She wanted to dig deep and wipe out any future threats.
Oscar smiled. "I get it. Don't worry, I won't spill until we have solid proof."
"Thanks for thinking of me." Pearl hugged him from behind. "I know you've been through a lot and are tired, yet you still think of me. Thank you."
"Let's not get all formal." Oscar pulled her onto his lap and frowned. "Tomorrow, you should pick up Christopher. Today, the maid said some strange woman tried to talk to him but took off when she saw the maid."
Pearl agreed right away. Whoever it was, she wouldn't show any mercy this time.
The next day, Pearl got to the school early to wait for Christopher.
Half an hour before school let out, the black SUV the maid mentioned parked across from the school gate.
A well-dressed woman got out and headed straight for the gate.
The woman chatted with the security guard like they were old pals. The guard even offered her a seat.
Pearl had asked Christopher that morning, and he said the woman only talked to him and didn't approach other kids. It was the first time he'd seen her.
All these details had Pearl on edge.
The school bell rang, and a group of kids, led by their teacher, walked towards the gate, singing a song.
