Chapter 722 Not His
Seeing Desiree hit the ground, Liam freaked out. He sprinted over, scooped her up, and bolted outside.
"Someone call an ambulance!" he yelled.
A few employees nearby quickly dialed 911. In no time, the ambulance was downstairs, and Liam rode with Desiree to the hospital.
He paced outside the emergency room, his nerves shot.
Desiree was his only kid. If something happened to her, how would he and Tessa cope?
He couldn't handle it, and Tessa would be even more devastated. If she found out, it would be like the end of the world for her!
Lost in his thoughts, the doctor finally came out. Before the doc could say a word, Liam grabbed his shoulders.
"Doc, how's my daughter? What's wrong with her?" Liam was frantic.
The doctor glanced at Liam's hands, wanting to step back, but Liam's grip was iron-tight.
Sighing at a parent's love, the doctor said, "Your daughter's fine. She just had a hypoglycemic episode. She's newly pregnant, so she needs to eat more to keep up with the nutrition."
Liam's eyes went wide. Pregnant?
This had to be Daryl's kid.
Liam had already decided that someone like Daryl, who was so manipulative and ruthless, could never be with Desiree.
But now Desiree was pregnant. She'd just lost a child, and another abortion would be brutal on her body and mind.
If she had the baby as a single mom, they could support her, but Daryl would definitely cause trouble and try to take the kid.
Full of worries, Liam went to see Desiree.
"Dad, seeing you like this, I really think I have some serious illness and don't have long to live," Desiree joked from her hospital bed, looking a bit pale.
She still had the energy to joke with him.
If she were really that sick, she'd feel it herself.
Liam just looked at her, saying nothing.
Desiree's expression turned serious. "No way. Do I really have something bad? I'm feeling fine, I don't want to die."
"You're not dying. You're just pregnant. What are we gonna do about this?" Liam knew he couldn't hide it and figured it was better to deal with it now.
Desiree was stunned.
She thought Liam was joking and sighed, "Even if you want to scare me, come up with something better. The doctor told me last time I have a tough pregnancy condition and need at least six months to prepare."
"Desiree, would I joke about something like this?" Liam wanted to knock some sense into her but couldn't bring himself to do it.
Desiree didn't believe it until she saw the test report. She looked at it over and over, completely shocked.
Liam continued, "Daryl's too extreme. If he finds out you're pregnant, he'll do anything to force you to be with him. And the kid will want a dad when they grow up. You might never get rid of him. I think it's better not to keep this baby."Liam was hurting, but he knew he had to make the tough call for Desiree.
He'd be the bad guy if he had to.
"No, this baby isn't his. He's lying," Desiree said, shaking her head. "This baby is Harold's."
She touched her belly, wondering if the child she lost had somehow come back to her.
"No matter what, I have to keep this baby. Harold and I are divorced, but he won't bother me. I know his character."
"What about his mom? She's a nightmare. Anyone who deals with her is cursed," Liam said, shaking his head.
Compared to Daryl, Harold seemed almost okay now.
Plus, the evidence Liam found showed that the online slander against Desiree wasn't Harold's doing but Isolde's. She had teamed up with Sandvik Corporation's rival, so Harold wasn't to blame.
If it were just Harold, Liam might consider letting him be with Desiree for the sake of the baby.
But with Ember in the picture, Liam was firm. "Don't blame me for being harsh, but unless his mom is out of the picture, I won't let you two be together."
"I get it," Desiree said. For the sake of the baby, she wouldn't take that risk.
She had already lost one child because of Ember. Now, by some miracle, she was pregnant again.
She wouldn't make the same mistake twice.
Seeing that Desiree had thought it through, Liam didn't say more.
Meanwhile, Harold was visiting Ember in the hospital every day. In front of him, Ember took her meds and got her IVs, acting all convincing.
One day, after leaving the hospital, Harold realized he forgot something in the room and hurried back.
At the door, he overheard Hermione and Ember talking.
"Aunt Ember, you've been pretending for so long, and the medical bills are piling up. Harold works hard for his money. I saw the bill last time, and it's thousands of dollars a day," Hermione said, genuinely concerned.
Spending money on food, drinks, or stuff was one thing, but wasting it like this was just wrong.
But Ember thought differently. 'As long as it solves his lifelong problem, I don't care if it costs even more.'
"But it's been so many days, and Harold still doesn't want to accept Isolde. Why don't you give up? Harold is suffering; he really loves Desiree. If you had agreed to them being together, none of this would have happened," Hermione continued.
She didn't dare say one more thing: Even if Desiree was seen with other men, going to see the sea together wasn't the same as sleeping together.
Ember caused Desiree to lose a child. Wasn't Ember scarier?
Considering how obsessed Harold was with Desiree, it would be better to let them be together.
"Desiree can never marry into the Lewis family. Even if he doesn't like Isolde, there are plenty of other women. I'll introduce him to someone else and aim for a wedding this year. By next year, I can have a grandchild," Ember said, happily plotting.
Hermione couldn't understand. "Aunt Ember, if Desiree's baby is kept, you could have a grandchild this year. And Desiree can still have more kids. She and Harold can't forget each other, and they might get pregnant again anytime."
