Chapter 601 Rumors
Oscar offered, "One hundred fifty grand."
The middle-aged guy hadn't really thought about it, but since Oscar threw out that number, he was game. "Alright, but you gotta pay up before you take the person."
Oscar didn't blink. "Give me your account number."
Even though the guy spent most of his time hunting in the mountains, he still had a bank account. He handed over the details, and in less than two minutes, $150,000 was sitting pretty in his account.
He'd never seen that much cash in his life.
While he was still basking in his newfound wealth, Oscar had already taken the person to find Harold and Desiree.
With the money sorted, Harold and Desiree were naturally taken away by Oscar.
Oscar got them to the hospital and even had Quincy personally check them out. Both were banged up.
There was even some leftover snake venom.
Quincy gave them antivenom and kept them under observation in the hospital.
Oscar told Harold, "You two need to chill in the hospital for now. Don't sweat the company stuff. Once you're out, I'll hook you up with a paid vacation."
Harold had been Oscar's right-hand man for years, and he deserved this kind of treatment.
"I'll be good after a few days of rest. If I don't go to the Brown Group, Mr. Brown, how will you handle everything on your own?" Harold asked.
Magdalen had found her true love and was now glued to him.
Desiree also needed to stay in the hospital, which meant Oscar would have to juggle the company solo.
Pearl was pregnant now, so no way she could handle all the company stuff.
"If I can't manage, do you think dragging you out of the hospital will help?" Oscar was now sitting by Harold's bed.
He had Harold and Desiree in the same room since they had the same issues, making it easier for Quincy.
Harold awkwardly scratched his head. "Once I'm better, I can still handle some things."
"Alright, don't worry about any of that. I've got caregivers for both you and Desiree. If you need anything, just tell them. If you feel off, let Quincy know." Oscar was still thinking about Pearl.
He'd spent the past few days hunting for Harold and Desiree, and Pearl had been worried sick.
Oscar just wanted to get them settled and head home to be with Pearl. After all, Pearl was still pregnant.
"Okay, Mr. Brown, don't worry about us. We're good." Harold knew Oscar's mind was elsewhere, and besides, he was feeling better now.
Oscar gave a few instructions to the caregivers before heading out.
But Quincy caught up with him and teased, "Even assistants get paid vacations. What about me? When do I get a paid vacation?"
Oscar shot him a look. "Is your job under my jurisdiction?"
"Of course. Whenever something happens to you or someone around you, you come to me. I'm already wiped from my daily consultations, and I still have to run around for you guys. Don't I get tired? If I want a break, who else should I ask but you?" Quincy pouted and retorted.
Oscar kept walking, not wanting to get into it with Quincy.
Quincy kept pace, not letting up. "Oh, so I hit a nerve, huh? Ignoring me now? Planning to ride me till I kick the bucket, eh? Then you're off the hook, right?"
Quincy was doing it on purpose.
As soon as he started whining, people around them began to stare.
Back when Pearl and Haley weren't around, rumors about Oscar and Quincy being close had spread.
And now Quincy was stirring the pot again!
Oscar was speechless, his gaze turning sharp. "If you keep this up, I don't mind helping you out."
Oscar hated being the subject of rumors, especially now that he had a happy family. He was even more unwilling to be talked about.
Quincy saw the fierceness in Oscar's eyes and backed off. He could only watch as Oscar walked away.
When Oscar got back to Serenity Haven Estates, even Pearl noticed the anger on his face.
Pearl was startled. "What's wrong? Haven't you found them yet?"
Several days had passed, and Oscar had arranged for a lot of people. If Harold and Desiree still hadn't been found, did it mean something bad had happened?
Harold had been with Oscar for many years. If something really happened to Harold, how would Oscar cope with the guilt?
"They've been found." Hearing Pearl's voice, Oscar's expression softened a bit.
But Pearl knew Oscar well after being with him for so long. If they had been found, Oscar should be happy, but he still looked upset. That could only mean something else had happened.
As his wife, who had loved him for so many years, she was naturally worried about him. "If they've been found, why are you looking so tense?"
"What happened? Oscar, tell me. We should face everything together." Pearl took two steps closer to Oscar, her beautiful eyes filled with determination.
Oscar put his arm around her shoulder. "It's nothing. Just some of Quincy's antics made me really mad. I don't want any rumors about us."
Pearl was surprised. "What rumors?"
"People used to think I had a close relationship with Quincy because we were often seen together," Oscar said flatly, but thinking about Quincy's behavior made him angry.
Pearl thought it was something serious. Hearing Oscar's explanation, she couldn't help but laugh. "We're married with kids now, even expecting a second child. What more can people say? You know Quincy likes to joke around."
Jokes were one thing.
If it were just him, without Pearl and the kids, Oscar wouldn't care. But now, he had a family. He had to be responsible for Pearl and the kids.
Oscar stroked Pearl's head. "I have to be responsible for you and the kids. I can't let Quincy act without boundaries anymore."
"Quincy is just joking. He doesn't mean anything by it. Don't be mad. Besides, Quincy has helped us a lot, hasn't he?" Pearl comforted.
She didn't want Oscar to dwell on such trivial matters, but unexpectedly, an uninvited guest arrived at their home.
