Chapter 695 Just Feeling
"Desiree, where are you headed?" Tessa rushed over to her.
Liam followed, grabbing the suitcase. "We don't mind if you need some air, but it's super late. You should really get some rest."
"I'm not just going for a walk, I'm going to see Pearl. You know her," Desiree said, trying to ease their worries by mentioning Pearl.
Liam and Tessa exchanged looks. They knew Pearl, but they weren't keen on letting Desiree go.
After all, she and Harold had fallen for each other at the Brown Group. Now, after finally getting to the point of divorce, she wanted to see Pearl. What if Harold was there and managed to charm her again?
No way they could let that happen.
"Desiree, I think you shouldn't bother her. Pearl's got two kids now and she's super busy. Your visit would just add to her stress. How about you stay with me tonight?" Tessa linked arms with her, trying to be affectionate.
As a mom, she wanted to have a heart-to-heart with Desiree.
Liam kept nodding in agreement.
Desiree could guess what they were thinking. She explained, "I'm going alone, no one else. I know Pearl's busy, so I want to help her with the kids. And I've taken care of Emily before."
"Desiree, how long do you plan to stay?" Tessa asked, and mentioning the kids had hit her soft spot.
Before having Desiree, she had lost a child due to a miscarriage. Lying on the operating table, she cried her heart out. She remembered that pain for a lifetime. After having Desiree, she poured her love for another child into her.
Now, Desiree was the same, having just lost a child. Having kids around might help heal some of her emotional wounds.
Desiree shook her head. "I don't know yet. I'll stay for a while, maybe longer."
"Alright, but it's so late. I don't feel comfortable with you going out alone. I'll take you there." Liam decided to go himself, just to be safe.
And he needed to see if Harold was there. If he was, Liam would give him a good beating to vent his anger and then drive him away.
"Dad, can you find me a few bodyguards? They need to be skilled, preferably one who can take on ten people," Desiree added, remembering what Pearl had said on the phone.
Liam chuckled. "I'll get you ten bodyguards, all of them capable fighters."
The more capable, the better. He'd pay them well, and if they saw Harold, they'd just beat him up. He'd cover the medical expenses himself.
As long as he could vent, he didn't care how much it cost.
"Thanks, Dad. Let's go quickly, or it'll be too late by the time you get back." Desiree linked arms with him.
On the way to the Brown family, Liam gave Desiree a lot of advice. "Besides the bodyguards, I'll get you a chef to make nutritious meals for you. You need to take good care of yourself."
At home, he always made nourishing soups for Desiree himself.
Now that she was heading to someone else's place, it was inappropriate to leave it to the Brown family's maid, and he didn't want Desiree cooking for herself either.
So, bringing a chef along seemed like the best idea.
"Dad, you are really considerate," Desiree said, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
She was lucky to have such amazing parents.
Liam held her hand. "Because I love you. When you truly love someone, you never want to see them hurt. Remember that."
Desiree nodded. "I know."
She'd been through so much already. If she didn't pull herself together now, she'd be a fool.
As they got closer to the Brown family home, Desiree sent Pearl a message.
Pearl came to the door to greet her and said to Liam, "Mr. Sandvik, thanks for coming so late. Want to come in for a cup of hot tea?"
"No need. You young folks have more to talk about. I need to get home to my wife. We're having a date night tonight," Liam chuckled.
Tomorrow morning, he'd find the bodyguards and send them over. With bodyguards around, if Harold showed up, they'd let him know.
With so many eyes on the situation, what was there to worry about?
After watching Liam leave, Desiree walked towards the villa with Pearl.
Halfway there, she stopped. It was already dark, and the wind was strong, blowing sand into her eyes.
As she wiped her eyes, she asked Pearl, "Do you think I'm being unfilial? My parents are getting old and should be enjoying their time. But because of me, they're still worrying."
"Of course not. You always think of your parents. It's not like you ignore them," Pearl patted her back, trying to comfort her.
Desiree's tears flowed even more.
At home, she didn't dare cry during the day, fearing it would make Liam and Tessa sad. At night, she worried that crying would make her eyes swell the next day.
Now at Pearl's, she could finally let it all out.
Pearl stayed by her side silently. After she finished crying, Pearl took out a wet wipe and gently wiped her eyes. "Let out all your unhappiness, and then get a good night's sleep."
"Can you come with me to court on Monday? I don't want to face Harold alone, and if he comes, Isolde will definitely be with him," Desiree said, feeling a pang in her heart at the mention of Isolde's name.
She couldn't understand why Isolde, a young girl, would want to be a homewrecker.
"Harold wouldn't do that, would he?" Pearl's first reaction was that he was crazy, bringing another woman to a divorce.
That would completely sever any last ties with Desiree.
She knew Harold and couldn't believe he'd do something so foolish.
"Who knows? We'll see on Monday." Desiree sniffled and walked forward with her. "Even if he doesn't bring Isolde, there's still his mom. I've had it. There's no marriage a mother-in-law can't ruin."
Having such a meddlesome person in her life, she was truly unlucky.
