Chapter 715 I Only Wish for Your Happiness
Marriage was no joke; it was a big deal. Tessa couldn't just let Desiree make such a quick decision. She glanced at Liam, who quickly poured some tea.
"Daryl, have some tea and take a breather," he said.
"I really want to marry Desiree. Our families are a good match, and she won't have any problems after marrying me. My parents will treat her like their own daughter. Please, give us your blessing," Daryl said, holding the teacup but not drinking.
He looked at Liam and Tessa, hoping for their approval.
Liam hesitated. "Daryl, this feels rushed. Before marriage, you need to get engaged. And before that, our families should sit down for a meal and talk things over. Take the gifts back for now, and we'll visit you another day."
Daryl could sense the rejection in Liam's words, but he had said all he could. He couldn't just force Desiree to marry him! With no other option, he got up to leave. He refused to take back the cash and jewelry he brought.
"Daryl, we appreciate the gifts, but we can't accept the jewelry," Liam said, bending down. But Daryl was already out the door.
Watching him leave, Liam put the gifts down and said, "Call Desiree and find out what's going on."
Tessa agreed, so they sat together and video-called Desiree.
Desiree quickly fixed her hair and clothes, put on some lipstick to brighten up her complexion, and answered the call with a smile.
"What's going on with you and Daryl? He just came over with cash and jewelry. How did things move so fast between you two?" Tessa asked.
Desiree's smile faded. She knew her parents wouldn't joke about this. It was Daryl who couldn't get her to agree and went to them.
How was this any different from forcing a marriage? How could Daryl do this?
"And Daryl told us you two have been intimate," Tessa added, feeling awkward discussing this in front of Liam.
Liam got up and stepped aside to let them talk.
Desiree was shocked and struggled to speak. "Mom, who told you that? Was it Daryl?"
Tessa nodded.
Desiree was so angry she started crying.
How had she not seen it before? Daryl was such a lowlife, taking this matter to Liam and Tessa.
She had been considering their relationship and the fact that Liam and Tessa liked him, so she didn't want to create any tension. But looking back now, she realized how foolish she had been.
She decided to be honest. "Mom, I have no interest in him at all. I know you like him, but I can't make myself be with him. I think he has character issues. He'll do anything to get what he wants. Right now, he's interested in me, so he'll do anything to get me. But if he loses interest, he'll find ways to hurt me."
Tessa thought Daryl's actions were out of line too. But she didn't want to jump to conclusions about his character. "Daryl probably just got anxious and messed up," she said.
"No matter how anxious he is, I can't be with him. That night, I was drunk, and someone spiked my drink. Something happened that shouldn't have," Desiree continued. "I don't want to ruin my life over one night."
No matter how much Liam and Tessa pushed, Desiree was never going to marry him. Getting married was easy, but getting divorced was a nightmare.
Plus, she couldn't stand how Daryl loved to tattle. How could he be so childish at his age, still acting like a preschooler?
"Desiree, whether you want to get married or not is up to you. We want you to get to know Daryl, but that doesn't mean you have to marry him." To Desiree's surprise, Tessa firmly stood by her side.
Liam, who had smoked two cigarettes, put out the butt and agreed with Tessa, "Even if you never get married, we will support you. We want you to be happy, and there are many paths to happiness. You should choose the one that suits you best."
Desiree's eyes instantly filled with tears upon hearing these words. She was lucky to have such understanding parents who stood by her no matter what.
At the same time, she was scared.
If Liam and Tessa weren't so open-minded and had been fooled by Daryl, they would be pushing Desiree to marry now. If they pressured her together, Desiree would be overwhelmed.
"Thank you. You are really good to me." Desiree smiled, but her tears kept flowing.
She must have done something extraordinary in her past life to be blessed with such a loving family in this one.
"Make it clear to Daryl. He's a good person, just unwilling to give up now. But he will understand in time," Tessa advised.
As for the jewelry, they would return it later.
After hanging up, Desiree went back to her room with mixed emotions. Once this matter was resolved, she would return to work at her family's company to help Liam and Tessa.
Now she wanted to go downstairs to buy something to eat. She hadn't eaten much all day and suddenly felt very hungry. But she didn't expect to see Harold under the streetlight!
Daryl had just left, and now Harold appeared. It was like they had planned to take turns showing up in her life.
Desiree pretended not to see Harold and walked past him without looking.
"Desiree, are you still ignoring me?" Harold couldn't stand it and quickly followed. "I've been trying to message you these past few days, but they never go through."
He waited anxiously, but Desiree still wouldn't take him off the blacklist.
That night, Desiree had feelings for him too, and they had a great time together. But why did she turn back to her old self, cold and distant, after waking up in the morning?
