Chapter 813 Not Inviting Me In?

Saskia was clearly pissed at Nathaniel.

"Are you doubting Azalea?" she snapped.

"That's not what I meant." Nathaniel rubbed his temples, realizing too late that he had put his foot in his mouth.

Saskia wasn't having it.

She shot back, "Nathaniel, no, I should call you George. Do you have any idea how much she's done for you? How could you doubt her?"

Nathaniel tried again, "Saskia, I said that's not what I meant."

But Saskia cut him off, the happiness she felt moments ago now gone like a puff of smoke.

She had come to him first, hoping to share her feelings and get his help to bring Azalea back.

Nathaniel's reaction left her deeply disappointed.

Saskia's recently softened attitude visibly hardened again. She said, "It's my fault for thinking you could understand my feelings. Men really can't be relied on."

Nathaniel couldn't hold back any longer. He grabbed her shoulders, pulling Saskia back. "I don't understand you? Saskia, what more do you want from me? I love you, not Azalea. Besides, she's always been suspicious."

He asked, "Have you even thought about how she managed to fake her death?"

"I don't want to hear any of that!" Saskia interrupted him, her anger making her breath come in sharp, rapid bursts, each breath louder than usual.

Nathaniel's expression changed immediately.

He said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. Calm down. Did you forget to take your medication? I'll have someone bring it in."

He was about to call for a servant.

Saskia took a couple of deep breaths, calming down a bit. She responded, "No need. Since you don't want her back, I'll find her myself. Sorry for the trouble."

She turned and went upstairs, quickly packing her things.

She had wanted to leave before.

But Nathaniel had subtly and overtly tried to keep her, and she had been torn by various factors, unable to make up her mind.

This time, she was determined.

She shouldn't have stayed; she should have left long ago.

Nathaniel watched as Saskia started packing, feeling conflicted. He wanted to stop her but couldn't bring himself to swallow his pride.

So he just stood there, watching as Saskia moved out.

This led to Pearl not finding Saskia when she came to visit.

"Where's Saskia? Wasn't she staying with you?" Pearl asked, holding Emily's hand and looking around in confusion.

"She left. Just now," Nathaniel replied dryly.

Pearl noticed his sour expression and guessed something had happened. "Did you two have another fight?" she asked.

Nathaniel said, "Do you need something? If not, you should go."

Pearl said, "Come on, we came all this way. Let me give you some advice."

Seeing Nathaniel's intention to send them away, Pearl realized she had upset him and tried to make amends.

But the angry Nathaniel wasn't easy to appease.

Only Saskia could do that effortlessly.

In the end, Pearl and Emily were ushered out after a brief conversation.

Nathaniel didn't exactly kick them out, but his cold demeanor was unbearable.

Pearl didn't want to face his icy expression any longer, so she sighed and left with Emily.

Pearl held Emily's hand, pinching her soft cheek as she sighed. "Bad timing. Didn't get to see Saskia, just a cold-hearted man."

Oscar, who had also been there, said, "Let's come back another day. I'm heading home. What about you?"

Pearl replied, "I'll head back too."

Oscar asked, "Want a ride?"Pearl turned down Oscar's offer.

She didn't get to take Emily out much and wanted to make the most of it.

While they were out, she bumped into someone she knew.

"Jeffery?" Pearl was caught off guard for a moment, then broke into a genuine smile.

Jeffery glanced at Emily and smiled back. "It's been a while."

Pearl asked, "Are you here to see Benjamin? I see you have a medical kit."

"No, I'm here to drop off some medication for Saskia." Jeffery explained briefly, mentioning that Saskia had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Hearing this, Pearl got worried and wanted to check on Saskia.

Jeffery reassured her, "Don't worry; her condition has stabilized. It's not as bad as it sounds. Her sister's death and other stuff just hit her hard."

Pearl replied, "That's good to hear."

After chatting for a bit, Jeffery asked, "How have you been?"

"I'm doing well. How about you?" Pearl smiled back.

Jeffery replied, "The hospital keeps me busy, but it's better than before."

Pearl said, "I can see that. You're always busy, unlike me, worrying about small things at home. The kids and adults are both a handful."

Despite her words, Pearl's smile was unmistakable.

Anyone could see she was happy.

Jeffery felt a pang of bitterness but mostly felt relieved and content. His smile softened his entire demeanor.

In the end, he watched Pearl leave.

He stood there for a long time, watching the two figures, one big and one small, until they disappeared from view. Then he looked up at the sky, blinked away the sting in his eyes, and returned to his usual distant self.

Later, Jeffery went to deliver the medication but didn't see Saskia either.

Nathaniel's attitude towards him was much more cordial.

Jeffery was Benjamin's primary doctor, and Benjamin owed his life to him.

Jeffery had come specifically to deliver good news. He said, "Benjamin can be discharged. His condition is stable, and he can go to school and travel without issues."

Nathaniel asked, "Is his hospital stay ending early?"

Jeffery replied, "Yes, by about two weeks. His recovery is better than expected."

This was one of the few pieces of good news lately.

The coldness in Nathaniel's eyes faded, revealing a softer side.

Jeffery didn't stay long. Before leaving, he paused and gave Nathaniel a meaningful look. "One more thing, just my personal opinion. Saskia might still have feelings for you. It depends on what you do." With that, he left.

Nathaniel's eyes darkened.

The next day, he started looking for a preschool for Benjamin and used it as an excuse to visit Saskia.

When the doorbell rang, Saskia wondered who it could be. She asked, "Who is it?"

She opened the door and was surprised to see Nathaniel standing there.

Benjamin, who had just been discharged, ran over and was thrilled to see Nathaniel. "Mr. Egan!"

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Nathaniel looked at Saskia, his deep eyes like a black hole, drawing her in.

Despite their recent argument, Saskia couldn't bring herself to turn him away in front of Benjamin.

Besides, Nathaniel had helped a lot.

Feeling it was only right, Saskia opened the door.

Benjamin was the happiest to see Nathaniel. He eagerly pulled Nathaniel to the couch and even brought over a plate of unevenly cut oranges.

"Mr. Egan, have some." Benjamin pushed the plate forward, proudly sharing his handiwork.
