Chapter 431 The Long-Lost Sister
Oscar was annoyed. "Why'd you spend the whole afternoon with him?"
Pearl shrugged. "Didn't I tell you? I fell asleep there."
Oscar was baffled. "If you wanted to sleep, why not come back? People will talk if it's just you two."
Pearl was irritated. "The kids were there too. We didn't do anything. Who cares what people say?"
Oscar's face darkened.
"And you were gone all morning. I had to handle things myself. Was I wrong?"
"Forget it. I don't want to argue," Pearl said, feeling it was pointless to continue.
"Me either," Oscar replied gently, trying to keep his cool.
Pearl was still upset but softened when he showed humility. "I went with Paloma. Louis asked me to stay and teach the kids. I'm like a part-time teacher. I was just there for a bit, nothing more."
"I get it," Oscar said. "You should go rest."
Pearl looked at him. He seemed calm and not hung up on her and Louis anymore.
Telling her to go back meant he didn't want to be with her.
After last night, she thought Oscar would want to be close.
She was overthinking it.
He had been rough with her last night, and now with today's questioning and distance, she felt colder than him.
"Goodbye," Pearl said and left.
Oscar just watched her go.
"This morning, Ms. Harris asked about you. We didn't say anything," Nicholas told him. "But she might get suspicious."
"Don't worry about it," Oscar said calmly. "We don't have much time left."
The next day, Jorge was walking through the woods, heading back to Carol.
He looked up, his face changing, and stopped.
"Are you the one trying to hurt Pearl?"
Jorge lowered his head. "Mr. Mitchell."
Louis turned, his eyes intense. "Answer me. Was it you?"
Jorge pursed his lips. "Yes."
"Where's Carol?" Louis asked.
"I'm here," Carol said, driving up and getting out of the car. She looked at Louis arrogantly. "What do you want, Louis? Are you going to punish me for Pearl?"
Louis's face was cold. "You can't touch Pearl."
"Why?" Carol snapped. "What's so special about her? She's just a bit prettier. Why do you favor her?"
Louis's eyes were deep. "Why are you following me, Carol?"
Carol walked closer. "I want your affection. You treat those kids so well but ignore me. How can I be content?"
Louis had heard it all before, his face turning colder. "I'm warning you, don't do this again. You can't touch Pearl! And I'm not your brother!"
Carol's face twisted with anger. "Are you disowning me?"
Louis stared at her. "What proof do you have that you're my sister?"
"The tribe acknowledges it. I'm your long-lost sister!" Carol insisted.
Louis said, "You mentioned 'long-lost.' You might be an impostor. If you don't want things to get worse, stop interfering in my life!"
Carol clenched her fists tightly.
She had been back for so long, and this was the first time she heard such a severe tone from Louis.
He doubted her, which made her nervous.
Louis didn't care about her but didn't want her affecting his life either.
He deliberately went back less often to stay away from her, to avoid getting too annoyed by her.
But she just didn't get it.
Then Louis left, leaving Carol with a twisted face, her clenched fists trembling from the force.
"Ms. Mitchell, don't take Mr. Mitchell's words to heart."
"Shut up!" Carol snapped at Jorge. "If you had killed Pearl, there wouldn't be so much trouble. But you failed and got Louis to scold me. You're useless!"
Jorge lowered his head, taking her scolding.
"Pearl!" Carol gritted her teeth. "Why do you keep haunting me, always entangling with me!"
"Do something for me!" She suddenly thought of a new plan. This time, she would personally kill Pearl.
Seeing Carol's deep obsession, Jorge said, "If Mr. Mitchell finds out, it will be bad for you."
"Just do it!" Carol's tone was firm. "He can scare me, but can he scare my father?"
Seeing this, Jorge had no choice but to follow her.
Pearl arrived at the school early in the morning.
She really wanted to monitor Louis 24/7.
If she knew where he went when he left the village, that would be perfect.
She leaned her head against the window, trying to see into Louis's room.
But the curtains blocked her view.
It seemed Louis wasn't home.
Maybe he went to meet the person who tried to kill her yesterday.
Pearl was a bit frustrated. She should have gotten up earlier; maybe she could have followed him.
"What are you looking at?" Louis was right behind her, seeing Pearl sneaking around like she was looking for something.
And she was peeking into his window, so he walked over to ask.
Pearl turned around and saw Louis's face, immediately standing up straight. "I came to find you. I called for a long time and didn't see you. I thought you were still asleep. I didn't expect you to be up so early."
Louis smiled and said, "I wake up early every day. I just got back from my workout."
"Is that so?" Pearl thought for a moment and then said, "I didn't know you had a workout routine."
"What do you need from me?" Louis asked.
Pearl felt she was being foolish.
She couldn't track Louis's movements this way.
"I wanted to ask if you had breakfast." Pearl found an excuse. "How about we have something to eat together?"
"Sure," Louis said. "Or we can eat here."
"Okay."
"Can I come to your room?" Pearl asked.
"Sure." Louis opened the door and let Pearl in.
"Do you cook yourself?" Pearl said. "I heard you don't cook much."
"I can cook a little," Louis said. "As long as it's edible."
Pearl went in. His room was simple, mostly filled with books, which matched his role as a teacher.
"I'll make some spaghetti," Louis said and then got busy.
