Chapter 301 I've Never Slept This Long

Only Jeffery could have the chance.

Oscar saw Pearl getting weaker and knew he couldn't just wait around.

"You stay here. I need to go somewhere," he said, heading back to the apartment.

'He must be there.'

Quincy didn't know where Oscar was going but said, "Okay."

Oscar thought, 'Pearl got hurt during the kidnapping. Jeffery could tell she was poisoned and could help. He must be special.'

Oscar couldn't miss any chance to save her.

He got to the apartment and looked at the house next to Pearl's, the door of which was shut tight, and he knocked quickly.

In less than a minute, the door opened.

Jeffery was home. He seemed to expect Oscar and wasn't surprised. "Come in," he said.

Oscar noticed Jeffery looked pale and weak. "Did you put that cross bracelet on Pearl?"

Jeffery poured a glass of water for Oscar. "That bracelet was hers."

Oscar's eyes narrowed. "I've never seen you among Pearl's friends."

Jeffery smirked. "I wouldn't call myself a friend."

That was his way of defining himself.

He couldn't be friends with anyone.

After all these years, he didn't need friends, but Pearl was special to him.

Oscar noticed Jeffery was injured, with cuts on his wrist, likely from bloodletting.

"Why don't you go to the hospital?"

"I'm a doctor," Jeffery said calmly, sitting down. "No one knows my body better than I do."

Oscar said, "So you knew Pearl was poisoned. That bracelet was to save her."

Jeffery took a sip of water, his dry lips touching the glass like a dying camel. He drank several gulps before calming down. Placing the glass on the table, his lifeless blue eyes stared at Oscar. "Yes, she was poisoned. The worst part is, I'm powerless. All I can do is keep her alive."

Oscar's heart tightened, realizing this poison wasn't something an ordinary person could cure.

"How long I can keep her alive, even I don't know," Jeffery said, touching his wrist calmly. "Maybe the last drop of my blood will be the end of her life."

Jeffery wasn't afraid.

He had survived this long because of his determination to find Pearl.

His existence was for her.

"You are an experimental subject. Every drop of your blood is priceless. Is it worth it for her?" Oscar asked.

"Saving her is the only thing that makes me feel truly free," Jeffery said, a hint of helplessness in his blue eyes. "People like us have no freedom."

They had to follow endless orders.

It was as if their bodies weren't their own.

From these words, Oscar knew Jeffery wasn't in control of his own fate either.

To yearn for freedom, life must be so unbearable that one would long for it.

"This poison is called k48," Jeffery said calmly. "I haven't obtained the antidote formula yet. I only know that the initial symptoms are bruises, followed by fatigue, and finally, the body rots away and dies."

Oscar frowned. "Who developed k48?"

"RavenWing," Jeffery said, locking eyes with Oscar. "You know, the leader of The Crimson Eclipse Society."

Oscar had heard the name during his military days but never found any trace of him.

"You haven't seen him either?" Oscar asked.

Jeffery shook his head. "He's very secretive. He researches poisons and is quite skilled. That's all I know."

Involving The Crimson Eclipse Society made things serious.

It seemed Pearl might have been involved back then.

This matched her disappearance one summer in high school when Oscar captured some members of The Crimson Eclipse Society.

Oscar had captured many people, and many had died.

Now Kevin was about to be released, but RavenWing was still at large.

Oscar looked at Jeffery. "Aren't you afraid of The Crimson Eclipse Society's retaliation for telling me this?"

Jeffery smiled. "I've told you, my purpose in life is for her. Plus, I'm an experimental subject. It takes a lot of resources to create one, so they won't harm me."

He was willing to risk his life for Pearl, which surprised Oscar.

They had a past he wasn't part of, which made him feel a bit jealous.

"Is she still unconscious?" Jeffery asked.

"She suddenly collapsed."

Jeffery frowned, still worried.

Oscar made up his mind. "You helped Pearl, and I'll find a way to help you gain freedom. For now, we need to find the antidote."

Jeffery thought for a moment. "She might have it."

"Who is she?"

Pearl slept for a full day and night, and Oscar stayed by her side the entire time.

As long as she was asleep, Oscar couldn't relax and didn't sleep either.

Pearl woke up at noon. She opened her eyes, still very tired. She moved her fingers and found Oscar holding her hand.

When Oscar noticed her move, he immediately got up and looked at her.

Pearl saw it was Oscar and asked with a hoarse voice, "What happened to me? Why do you look so worn out?"

She saw the red in Oscar's eyes and his newly grown beard. She had never seen him look so disheveled.

However, there was a hint of joy on Oscar's face. "You're awake. That's good. I won't make you angry anymore, okay?"

"Angry?" Pearl was still trying to remember. She raised her hand, wanting Oscar to help her up. "Right, I remember you told me not to provoke Haley, and I was upset. What happened after that? How did I fall asleep?"

Her memory was slowly coming back, but something felt off.

'How did I fall asleep?'

Oscar helped her up, placing a pillow behind her back. "You were too tired. The doctor said you were overworked."

"Really?" Pearl was skeptical. "Then why are you so worried? I thought I had some terminal illness that made you so sad."

"Don't talk nonsense," Oscar said. "You'll live a long life."

"How long did I sleep?"

"A day and a night."

"I slept that long?" Pearl said in surprise. "I've never slept this long before."

Oscar held her in his arms. "You're pregnant. It's different."

Oscar's words came out lightly, but out of Pearl's sight, his eyes reddened.

He was worried Pearl wouldn't hold on until then.
