Chapter 428 He's Quite Wealthy
Oscar asked in a husky voice, "You won't regret this, right?"
He wanted to make sure Pearl wasn't acting on impulse.
"I won't," Pearl said, looking at him.
Pearl didn't ask much from him, but she felt there were too many regrets; they shouldn't end like this.
"Okay." Oscar leaned down and kissed her.
He was gentle, treating Pearl like she was the best gift ever.
Pearl enjoyed his touch, her body tingling, blurring the line between reality and dream.
She felt herself melting.
Oscar panted, sweat dripping from his forehead. He was holding back to avoid hurting her.
But his blood was boiling, a rush of heat hitting his head.
His eyes turned bloodshot, losing reason. He grabbed Pearl's arm, not too hard, but leaving red marks.
He left deep marks on her body too.
Pearl stifled a groan, caught between pain and pleasure.
This night was going to be sleepless.
--
When Pearl woke up, she felt light and soft, with a hint of pain.
She opened her eyes to see the top of a tent.
This wasn't her usual place.
Last night wasn't a dream.
She had seduced Oscar, and though she felt a bit embarrassed now, she didn't regret it. She was a bit reluctant to face Oscar.
The warmth beside her was gone; he must have gotten up a while ago.
She looked outside; it was already late. They usually got up at five, and Oscar was always more disciplined than her.
Pearl vaguely remembered last night's madness.
Oscar had been so intense that she felt utterly exhausted and fell asleep soon after.
Now it was almost noon.
She quickly sat up, feeling pain in her waist and thighs, still a bit tired.
She wondered if it was because she was getting older or exercising less; just having sex left her exhausted.
Lifting the blanket, she got ready to dress.
Seeing the marks on her body, she thought Oscar might have been too rough.
Even her wrists were red.
'How could he be so strong? Last time, he wasn't like this.'
Pearl didn't have time to think much; she quickly got dressed and prepared to go out.
She thought, 'Everyone must be up. What would they think if they saw me coming out of Oscar's tent?'
She peeked out and found no one around, a chance to leave.
But she saw Elijah and the others chopping wood.
Everyone was there, except for Oscar.
This puzzled her.
"Ms. Harris!" They all greeted her in unison.
Pearl asked, "Where's Mr. Brown? I haven't seen him."
Elijah wiped his sweat and replied, "Mr. Brown told us to chop wood. He's not with us. If he comes back, I'll let you know."
"That's not necessary."
Elijah politely asked, "Did you sleep well last night?"
They didn't know Pearl had come out of Oscar's tent.
Early in the morning, they were called away.
His words made Pearl blush, thinking about last night. She calmly replied, "I slept well. You guys keep going."
"Okay." Elijah didn't notice anything unusual.
Even though last night wasn't a dream, not seeing Oscar made it feel a bit surreal.
His absence puzzled her, but she didn't dwell on it.
If Oscar came back, he'd let her know.
She went to find Luciana and the others to help with the work.
As she approached, she heard Paloma excitedly shout, "Pearl, why are you just coming out? Did you stay up too late last night? Mr. Mitchell is back!"
Mentioning Louis, Paloma was still excited and wanted to see him. "Everyone went to see what Mr. Mitchell brought back. Let's go."
Hearing that Louis was back, Pearl felt relieved.
At least he was safe.
After he left, the Allied forces had invaded, and she was worried something might happen to him.
Following Paloma, Pearl asked, "Does Louis always bring you things when he comes?"
"Yeah!" Paloma said with a smile. "Mr. Mitchell is very generous and kind to us. All the girls in our village like him. If Mr. Mitchell didn't insist on not having a wife, I'd want to marry him when I'm old enough. But I know Mr. Mitchell wouldn't be interested in me, so I just like him from afar!"
Pearl thought for a moment and said, "He must be quite wealthy."
'He came here to teach, not for money. People usually go to prosperous places, but he came to this remote, poor area. And he always brought many gifts, so he wasn't short of money.'
Louis was at the school, which had been bombed.
With Oscar's people helping, the villagers and soldiers were rebuilding the school, but it wasn't fully built yet.
Maybe when the village houses and school were repaired, it would be time for Oscar to leave.
At this moment, the village girls had already received the gifts they wanted.
They were sharing with each other.
Pearl noticed that the girls' gifts were things they rarely saw, but to her, they were ordinary items.
The boys also received various books.
Louis was standing at the end of the school, near a cliff and a waterfall.
Pearl looked at him and realized he was quite different from the Eldorians, both in skin tone and appearance.
"Mr. Mitchell," Paloma shouted from a distance.
Louis turned at the sound, seeing them approach, and smiled. "When did you two become so close?"
Paloma said, "Pearl and I are already good friends."
Louis's eyes were full of comfort. "I never expected that."
"She saved Ricardo and many children. In my heart, she's already a hero." Paloma had a lot to say but then looked worried. "Mr. Mitchell, while you were away, the school was bombed, the village was destroyed, and a few people died. If Mr. Brown hadn't come, our village would have been massacred. It's a good thing you weren't here, and you're safe!"
