Chapter 941 Let Her Perform the Surgery

Jeffery glanced at Lyra, but he just couldn't bring himself to spill what was on his mind.

"So, how long are you gonna keep this up?" he asked.

Lyra snapped back to reality, realizing she had wrapped his hand like a mummy. "Oh, I was talking to you and got totally sidetracked. Let me fix this."

She unwound a couple of layers, and it looked way better.

Still, Lyra seemed worried. "How'd you get hurt? Did you grab the knife or something?"

Jeffery adjusted the bandage to make it more comfortable and replied casually, "Nah, just a little nick."

Lyra's brow furrowed deeply.

She felt like storming into the police station and giving someone a piece of her mind, but she couldn't wrap her head around Jeffery's calm demeanor, like getting hurt was just another Tuesday for him.

He didn't even flinch.

How could someone be so chill about their own body?

Lyra couldn't help but say, "I just did a quick fix. Make sure to put some ointment on it and keep it dry, okay?"

"Lyra, you don't have to worry about me," Jeffery said.

Lyra was taken aback.

He glanced at his hand and put it down. "It'll heal on its own. You've got work to do, so you should go. I've got a surgery to perform later."

Lyra's voice rose, "No way, your right hand's injured, and with a cut that big, you can't do surgery!"

Surgery required precision.

Especially internal surgery, where a doctor's hands were as crucial as life itself.

Jeffery was right-handed, and the injury was on his right hand. When she unwrapped the bandage, she was shocked at how deep and long the cut was, though it had luckily missed the veins and arteries.

But it was dangerously close to the tendons.

It was hard to imagine how Jeffery could endure such pain without a word.

That was why Lyra was so upset when he said he was still going to perform surgery.

"Jeffery, you can't do major surgery with your hand like this. If you try, either the surgery will fail, or your hand will be permanently damaged. Is that what you want?" Lyra pleaded.

Lyra knew Jeffery well.

He cared about his patients and his profession, so she hoped this would get through to him.

Sure enough, Jeffery was silent for a moment. "No one else can do this surgery, only me."

His brow was furrowed.

Lyra saw this and felt a pang in her heart, instinctively blurting out, "Then I'll do it."

She was surprised at her own words but quickly became resolute.

"I can do it. You taught me yourself. If anyone in this hospital can follow in your footsteps, it's me."

Jeffery looked at her deeply.

In that moment, he realized Lyra had changed.

She wouldn't have said something like that before, but now she could confidently take over his work.

Yes, she had grown over time.

She was no longer the timid young doctor who watched opportunities slip by without seizing them.

His eyes softened with a smile, and he laughed lightly, his voice filled with pride. "Alright, you go ahead. I'll be here waiting for you."

He handed her the patient file.

With just two hours until the surgery, Lyra was stepping into uncharted territory, taking over a major operation on such short notice. She didn't want to waste a second and dove into the patient's information.

Jeffery wasn't just sitting idle. He leaned forward slightly, pointing at the file. "This patient has coronary heart disease and several symptoms causing vascular blockage. He passed out when he was brought in."

"Since the patient is over fifty, you need to be extra careful during the surgery..."

His voice was calm, like a gentle stream, and Lyra's anxiety was instantly soothed.

When the office door was knocked, and the assisting doctor came to call them, she felt more at ease. Just as she was about to stand, she saw Jeffery rise with her.

"I'll go with you. Having me there will make you feel more secure," Jeffery said.

Lyra was stunned for a few seconds.

In those seconds, the person outside had already entered—a male doctor.

Seeing Lyra, he was surprised. "Dr. Cole, are you here for Mr. Gray? Sorry, there's an emergency surgery, and we need Mr. Gray to handle it personally."

"Time is tight, Mr. Gray. We need to go now, or we won't make it."

Jeffery nodded and looked at Lyra.

Lyra tensed up again.

She couldn't help it. It was one thing to speak boldly in front of Jeffery, but it was different with others around.

She wasn't that thick-skinned yet.

But Jeffery had no such concerns. He pointed to Lyra and said, "She'll be the lead surgeon."

His words stunned the doctor.

"How can she? Don't joke around, Mr. Gray! This surgery is no small matter. How can a less experienced doctor handle it?"

Jeffery wasn't about to change his mind. "She's my choice. If I say she can, she can."

The male doctor shook his head repeatedly.

Seeing he couldn't persuade Jeffery, he turned to Lyra, softening his tone. "Dr. Cole, you're a doctor too. You know this isn't a game. This is about a patient's life. If something goes wrong, how will we explain it to the family?"

"The whole hospital's reputation could be at stake because of you. Can you live with that?"

Lyra hesitated. "But Mr. Gray is injured."

The doctor was taken aback, looking down to see the thick bandage on Jeffery's hand.

The trash can still had bloodied bandages.

He suddenly felt the gravity of the situation.

Seeing this, Lyra quickly said, "I've already reviewed the patient file. I know I'm not very experienced, but if Mr. Gray can't operate, do you have a better option?"

"This surgery isn't simple."

Jeffery interrupted, "No more discussion. I'll be there to supervise her."

The male doctor relaxed, patting his chest. "Alright then, that's good. We need to hurry."

With Jeffery's assurance, the doctor's attitude changed quickly.

Partly because there was no other choice, and partly because Jeffery's skills were well-known.

Even though he hadn't been at the hospital long, and there was some initial skepticism about his background, those doubts vanished after witnessing his abilities.
