Chapter 484 How Much Benefit Did They Give You

Hathaway's eyes were sharp, her face grim.

Magdalen didn't sugarcoat things. "Give it to an outsider? Am I an outsider now?"

Pearl was surprised Hathaway was still so emotional after transferring the property to Magdalen. "Magdalen, I didn't call you here to argue with Hathaway. I have the right to give you the property."

Pearl gave Harold a look. Though he didn't expect this, he followed her lead and handed the documents to Magdalen.

Magdalen pressed her lips together, but Pearl spoke first. "I have my own plans and I'm not interested in managing the Brown Group. Oscar cared about this company and the family. You're the best person for this. Harold, talk to Magdalen about your leave request."

Pearl was exhausted. She had made up her mind. Staying in the city, especially with the Brown Group, would trap her in memories of Oscar.

After giving these instructions, Pearl left.

With Barbara by Pearl's side, Harold felt reassured. Now that Magdalen had the documents, he needed to help her with the procedures.

Since Magdalen was part of the Brown family, the other shareholders stayed quiet.

But Hathaway was furious. She confronted Magdalen. "Why side with Pearl? Do you think I don't know your motives? You just want the Brown family assets. You and Pearl are in cahoots. What did Pearl offer you?"

Magdalen stayed calm. She waved her hand, and Harold cleared the room, leaving just her and Hathaway.

Magdalen's calmness made Hathaway angrier. "Drop the act, Magdalen. You're no better!"

"And you?" Magdalen smirked. "You're acting crazy. How did you even marry into the Brown family?"

Magdalen's eyes were cold and disdainful. She knew all about Hathaway's actions but hadn't brought them up because she didn't live with the Brown family.

As for Oscar and Pearl, Magdalen had tried to bring them together, but by the time they realized their feelings, it was too late.

Even so, Hathaway was excessive. She made things hard for Pearl when Oscar was alive and still wouldn't let her be now.

"You!"

Seeing Hathaway so furious, Magdalen smirked. "I haven't mentioned it, but that doesn't mean I'm unaware. Do you need a reminder why you're so fond of Haley? You think you've hidden it well, but everyone in the Brown family knows the truth."

As Magdalen spoke, she walked toward Hathaway.

Magdalen wasn't very tall, but she had an imposing presence in front of Hathaway.

Hathaway's face turned pale. Everyone in the Brown family knew about her and Haley. She felt like a ridiculous clown.

No wonder David barely spoke to her, rejected her plans, and chose Pearl as Oscar's wife. No wonder Alfonso never came home. No wonder Magdalen always looked at her with disdain, and Pearl had the same attitude.

Hathaway laughed maniacally, losing all semblance of dignity.

Magdalen couldn't be bothered and turned to leave the conference room.

But where was Pearl?

Pearl was leaving the Brown Group, planning to meet Kittie and Evans. Barbara followed closely, worried Pearl might do something rash.

While sitting in the car, Pearl got a call from Magdalen.

"Magdalen," Pearl answered.

Magdalen tried to comfort her. "I know you're very sad. But life goes on. I won't sign for the property you transferred to me; it will stay under your name. When you feel better, come back and take over the Brown Group. Otherwise, how will I explain it to Oscar in a dream?"

Pearl's heart sank.

Oscar was dead, and everyone was gradually accepting it, including herself.

Would she forget Oscar?

No, she couldn't!

Pearl said, "Magdalen, you should manage the company. I have something important to do. Oscar was in peacekeeping; I want to become a war correspondent."

If she had only considered it before, now her desire was strong.

Oscar had been in peacekeeping, so she would become a war correspondent, reporting on the suffering in war zones, fighting alongside Oscar in a different way.

Magdalen was shocked by her decision.

She thought about Pearl's previous profession, her current state, Oscar's profession, and Pearl's temperament.

Pearl and Oscar were the same kind of person; once they made a decision, no one could change it.

Magdalen pressed her lips together and advised, "Pearl, I can't say much about your decision. But you don't have to leave today. How about having a meal with me before you go?"

"Okay, but I need to see Kittie and Evans first," Pearl agreed.

"Alright, I'll book a place and send you the location."

"Okay." With that, Pearl hung up.

She and Barbara arrived at Kittie and Evans' house, but Barbara waited outside.

When Evans and Kittie saw Pearl, their eyes were full of concern. "You've gotten so tanned."

They knew everything about what had happened between Pearl and Oscar.

Pearl held their hands and said hoarsely, "Kittie, Evans, thank you for raising me all these years."
