Chapter 216 Refusal of Collaboration

"Horizon Network, I'm from Horizon Network!"

When Oscar responded, Chloe lit up. She quickly pushed the bodyguard aside and approached him. "Here's my ID. I'm from a legit TV station and have interviewed tons of celebrities. Mr. Brown, if you agree to this interview, I promise you'll gain both fame and fortune..."

Chloe kept hyping up her achievements and how she could benefit Oscar.

But Oscar's mind was elsewhere. He was thinking about the TV station.

If he remembered right, Pearl worked there.

He still couldn't wrap his head around why Pearl chose that job; it was like starting from scratch.

Pearl had been with Oscar for years, climbing the ranks. She had great connections and resources; she didn't need to be at a TV station.

He worried if Pearl was being mistreated there.

After all, Pearl had come a long way from being a naive girl to where she was now.

Looking at Chloe, he suddenly wondered if Pearl was getting bullied in such a place.

At least with him, Pearl wouldn't be pushed around.

Chloe finished her pitch and, seeing Oscar still silent, couldn't help but call out, "Mr. Brown."

Oscar snapped back to reality, his gaze cold. "Did your TV station give you all the good jobs?"

Chloe was stunned, not sure why Oscar said that. She smiled nervously, "Mr. Brown, interviewing you is a great job, but I fought for it."

Oscar's expression turned disdainful. "Then find someone more suitable."

With that, he shut the car door.

Chloe was baffled by his sudden change in attitude.

She thought that since he asked about her TV station, the interview was halfway secured.

But with the car door slammed shut, Chloe pounded on it. "Mr. Brown, don't go, let's talk more!"

The car drove off, leaving Chloe behind.

She had put so much effort into this and wasn't ready to give up. She chased after the car.

This was her big chance. If she couldn't talk to Oscar face-to-face, she'd lose it forever.

Chloe banged on the car door, but Oscar didn't seem to care, and she nearly twisted her ankle.

"Chloe," Piper and Hazel came over.

"Are you okay?" Piper asked.

Chloe's foot hurt badly. If she wasn't in high heels, she could've run further, but Oscar was tough to crack.

Despite all she said, he was unmoved.

She had interviewed many celebrities and entrepreneurs, but none were like Oscar.

This made Chloe furious.

Panting and wiping sweat off her forehead, she angrily said, "We've waited so long to see him, why won't he accept my interview? Is there anyone more suitable than me at Horizon Network?"

She was the top reporter at Horizon Network.

Everyone she interviewed, whether for special issues, magazines, or TV, gained significant influence.

What right did Oscar have to say no?

"Chloe, didn't you hear what Oscar said? To find someone suitable. There's still a chance!"

Chloe glared at Piper. "Are you saying I'm not suitable?"

Seeing Chloe's expression, Piper felt a chill. "No, Chloe, I didn't mean that. You're the best."

Chloe was desperate; she couldn't afford to fail again. She had to find a way to secure that interview with Oscar.

"Chloe," Hazel leaned in closer. "Do you know the newcomer who used to work at the Brown Group?"

Chloe looked puzzled. "Who?"

"It's Pearl. I heard her old boss was Mr. Brown. Maybe she can help."

Chloe was taken aback.

She never bothered with the backgrounds of her colleagues at the TV station.

She didn't see the point in knowing things that wouldn't help her work.

Besides, Chloe had been at the station for four years and hadn't met a journalist more outstanding than herself.

She believed she could handle any problem, and the editor-in-chief valued her skills. If she could nail this interview with Oscar, Harper would be thrilled, and Chloe might get a promotion.

No wonder Harper gave this important task to Pearl.

It was because Pearl had worked at the Brown Group; Chloe couldn't underestimate her.

The next day, the first thing Chloe did when she got to the station was find Pearl.

Pearl was about to head out; she had learned from an online friend that an orphanage was about to close, leaving fifty kids homeless.

She planned to use her public account to write an article and possibly help them.

She had just finished organizing when Chloe stopped her. Pearl looked at her calmly, "Do you need something?"

Chloe scrutinized Pearl and then crossed her arms. "Your old boss is Oscar."

Pearl didn't get Chloe's angle. "Yes, so?"

Chloe, as if doing her a favor, said, "Since you worked at the Brown Group and know Oscar, you should join me for his interview."

Without hesitation, Pearl replied, "I need to go out, so I can't go with you."

Chloe's face darkened, and her tone grew heavier. "Pearl, I'm asking you to join me for Oscar's exclusive interview, and you declined. Do you know what you're saying? Many people want to work with me, and I don't agree. Letting you participate is an honor, and you say you don't have time. Do you even know what you're saying?"

Chloe offering an opportunity was something others would be grateful for.

Even if the interview was published with just a byline, it would still be a great honor.

Pearl initially wanted to bypass Chloe, but her words made her smile. She looked up at Chloe again. "Of course I know what I'm saying. I refuse your proposal."

"Chloe is offering you a partnership, and you refuse?" Piper and Hazel were baffled. "This is such a good opportunity, better than sitting here typing a few words."

"If it were me, I'd jump at it. Opportunities like this are how you get promoted. Are you stupid?"

Chloe snorted, thinking Pearl was short-sighted. "Look around this office. How many want to work with me? You're new here and don't know my prowess. The news I cover gets millions of shares!"

Pearl didn't want to expose Chloe, but since she insisted, she had to ask, "You didn't secure this exclusive interview, did you?"

Chloe's face turned dark. With so many people in the office, she needed to save face. "Pearl, what was your attitude toward me?"

Pearl continued, "If you had secured it, would you be looking for me? With your personality, you'd want to keep it all to yourself. You're asking me to partner because you know I was Oscar's subordinate and have a better chance of getting close to him to help you secure this interview. You just want to use me. If I help you get it, it won't have anything to do with me afterward."
