Chapter 525 Do You Dislike Women?
Pearl and Oscar were cruising back to the Eldorians.
They snagged a rental, and Oscar was chilling in the back seat while Pearl kept a close eye on him.
Luckily, Oscar wasn't in too rough shape.
But then, they got flagged down halfway.
Oscar's gut screamed "Charles."
He grabbed Pearl and rasped, "I'll check it out. If it goes sideways, you tell the driver to floor it. Stick to the plan, but you gotta stay in Eldorians."
If Charles was hell-bent on keeping him, even with the international heat, as long as Pearl and Christopher were safe, Oscar could deal.
Pearl shook her head hard and said, "You promised you'd stick with me no matter what. Now you want me to bail? No chance. Oscar, don't flake on me."
Just as Pearl finished, a car blocked their way, and a bunch more cars hung back, clearly tailing them.
Oscar's face went pale.
But to his shock, only one dude stepped out. Oscar knew him; Wyatt Powell, Charles's personal muscle. Oscar gave him the once-over.
Oscar had already scoped Wyatt out and saw he wasn't packing heat.
Wyatt spoke up, loud and clear, "Mr. Oscar Stewart, Mr. Charles Stewart sent me with the antidote."
Wyatt's words didn't exactly light up Pearl and Oscar. Charles was always a hard-ass, and even when they split, he hadn't planned on handing over the antidote.
Now that Charles sent Wyatt with the goods, there had to be a catch!
Seeing the car door still shut and Oscar not budging, Wyatt said hoarsely, "Mr. Oscar Stewart, the whole world is watching Mr. Charles Stewart. If he didn't care, he could've nailed you in Serenea. And if he wanted to mess with you, he wouldn't have just sent me. If you don't trust me, test it out first."
Wyatt seemed legit.
Seeing Oscar and Pearl still on the fence, he slowly put the antidote on the ground.
After a beat, Oscar opened the door and grabbed the antidote Wyatt left.
It was a tiny white bottle.
Oscar was puzzled. "Why the sudden change of his mind? You're tight with him; spill it."
"I don't know why. If you wanna know, call him yourself. I'm out of the loop."
With that, Wyatt turned and bounced without a glance back.
Oscar clutched the small white bottle and finally dialed Charles.
The phone rang forever, and just when Oscar thought Charles would ghost him, Charles's deep voice came through. "What do you want?"
Oscar wouldn't normally call him again.
Oscar bit his lip and said softly, "Why'd you change your mind?"
He couldn't wrap his head around Charles's move.
Charles chuckled. "Pearl's stirred up so much crap. You think I had a choice?"
"From now on, take care of yourselves and never set foot on Serenea again."
With that, Charles hung up.
The busy tone buzzed in Oscar's ear. He knew Charles was all about his rep.
Oscar pocketed his phone and hugged Pearl. "Let's head back and see if this stuff's legit."
If it was, and he was free from the poison, he could take Pearl and Christopher back to Willow Creek and live the life Pearl dreamed of.
Meanwhile, Christopher was burning up, hitting 104 degrees Fahrenheit, throwing RavenWing into a frenzy.
After checking Christopher and confirming it was just a regular cold, RavenWing let out a huge sigh of relief. If it had been a rejection reaction or something worse, he wouldn't know how to break it to Pearl.
He first tried to cool Christopher down with physical methods. When that didn't cut it, he hooked him up to an IV. He stayed glued to Christopher's side, not daring to blink.
Christopher slowly got better, and even Louis was worried, whipping up porridge for him himself.
Seeing Louis hustling in the kitchen, Jimena swooped in. "You're the leader of the Eldorians now. If folks see you doing this, they might not be cool with it."
"What? Should I be scared of getting roasted for making porridge? If that's the case, then my teaching days would be my dark past."
Louis didn't let Jimena finish. He spoke calmly, not even glancing at her, which stung Jimena. But she was set on sticking by Louis and winning him over, so she wasn't fazed.
"I didn't mean it like that. I was just looking out for you."
"I don't need that kind of status." Louis really didn't care.
Jimena's throat tightened. She wanted to help him, but Louis still shut her down.
Louis coldly added, "You can leave now. Don't waste your time on me. Apart from necessary cooperation, I don't want any contact with you."
"Why? We got along fine before. Or do you just not like women?" Jimena's heart ached.
Before, Louis hadn't said these things because she hadn't confessed her feelings. But now it was different; she had laid it all out and wanted to be with him.
But he kept rejecting her.
Jimena couldn't help but wonder.
Louis was already in a foul mood, worried about Christopher, and Jimena's constant advances only made it worse.
He didn't expect Jimena to ask such a question right now. It was just mind-boggling!
Louis's face turned ice-cold. When he looked up, his eyes were sharp and frosty.
At that moment, silence spoke volumes.
Jimena was momentarily scared, but she had come this far, so she pressed on, "If you don't like men, then why do you keep pushing me away? Even if you don't like me, why didn't you say you didn't want any contact with me before?"
Jimena bit her lip and clenched her fists. She was determined to get an answer.
