Chapter 742 Children by Your Side
Over the next few days, Louis was buried in his work, while Jimena made sure to eat well and get plenty of rest. Her complexion was looking way better.
Seeing her like this, Louis couldn't help but grin. "You look amazing just the way you are, and I really like it," he said.
Jimena teased him, "So, you didn't like how I looked before?"
Louis's grin got even bigger. "How could that be? No matter what, I love you just the way you are. But I really hope you stay healthy, Jimena. I want us to be together for a long time."
Jimena felt the same way.
Especially when she thought about RavenWing, who was in the late stages of liver cancer. She realized that money couldn't necessarily buy health.
So, she needed to take good care of herself. It was only by loving herself that she could truly love others.
Louis had arranged for a private jet, and once they landed, they drove straight to the hospital.
When they arrived, RavenWing had just finished his treatment for the day.
"Grandpa, does it hurt?" Christopher asked, full of concern. "You don't have any hair left."
"Do I look ugly now?" RavenWing couldn't help but touch his bald head.
He used to have some hair, but now it was all gone, leaving him completely bald.
Christopher shook his head and replied, "Grandpa, you'll always be handsome to me. You're not ugly at all! And no hair is fun! Can I touch your head?"
"Of course you can." RavenWing then took Christopher's hand and placed it on his head.
The texture was unique, and Christopher couldn't resist touching it a few more times. "Grandpa, you look so cute now. I really like it!" he said.
He had already learned from Pearl that RavenWing's baldness was due to his treatment. Without it, RavenWing would still have hair, but he wouldn't be with them for long.
Christopher didn't want that at all.
He climbed up next to RavenWing and hugged him. Christopher continued, "I just want you to stay with me for a long time. When you get better, can you come to my elementary school events with me?"
"I thought you were still in preschool. How are you in elementary school already?" RavenWing almost doubted his memory.
It wasn't the start of the school year, after all.
Hearing this, Christopher corrected RavenWing, "I'm not in elementary school yet, but I will be soon. There will be events then, and I want you to come with me. For now, Mom and Dad can come to my preschool events."
Christopher didn't understand what late-stage cancer meant, and Pearl felt it was too early to explain it to him.
So Christopher thought that by the time he graduated from preschool, RavenWing would be cured.
"Alright, I'll go with you. Even if I don't have hair, I can wear a wig. We can pick one together. Whatever you think looks good, I'll wear it," RavenWing said. "Right now, a wig suits me best."
Christopher's eyes lit up.He had seen a wig store at the mall with Pearl and Oscar, full of different colors and styles.
"Grandpa, can you change your hairstyle every day?" he asked.
RavenWing chuckled, "Of course. I can switch it up every morning and evening if you want." Losing his hair had been tough, but seeing the excitement in Christopher's eyes made him feel a lot better.
So what if he was bald?
With a wig, he could still be the coolest grandpa around.
"That's awesome! Grandpa, you can pick me up from school, and all the other kids will be so jealous. Their grandpas won't be as stylish as mine!" Christopher was thrilled just thinking about it.
Watching RavenWing and Christopher, Pearl felt both amused and touched.
No wonder people said that the older one got, the more childlike one became. Seeing how happy they were chatting, Pearl couldn't agree more.
Emily babbled, eager to join in, but she couldn't understand what they were saying, and neither RavenWing nor Christopher could understand her.
Seeing this, RavenWing picked her up. "My little Emily, let Grandpa hold you. You've gotten chubbier these past few days," he said.
Hearing this, Emily blew a spit bubble.
"Alright, I won't say you're chubby. You've just grown a bit," RavenWing quickly corrected himself.
Christopher joined in to play with Emily, making the hospital room feel warm and lively.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Pearl thought it was the doctor and hurried to open it, only to find Louis and Jimena. "You two got here so quickly?" she asked.
The last time she talked to Louis, she saw how busy he was, with stacks of files on his desk.
She thought it would be a while before they could come. Then she said, "Come in, Dad will be so happy to see you."
RavenWing looked up, and the sight of Louis and Jimena filled his heart with joy.
As one got older, all one wanted was to be surrounded by family.
With Louis and Pearl there, along with adorable Christopher and Emily, and Oscar coming after work, RavenWing felt his life was complete.
"This must be your daughter. She's adorable," Jimena said to Pearl, walking over to Emily.
She looked at the little girl, feeling an overwhelming urge to hold Emily.
She asked, "Pearl, can I hold your daughter? I've practiced holding babies. I won't drop her."
Jimena was afraid Pearl might not trust her, so she emphasized her experience.
Having been pregnant herself, Pearl knew how precious a child was to a mother, who would rather get hurt herself than let her child get hurt.
"Of course. Emily isn't shy. She won't cry no matter who holds her." Pearl saw the longing in Jimena's eyes.
When Desiree visited and saw Emily, she had the same look.
It was precisely because she had lost a child that Jimena's longing grew even stronger.
Pearl didn't mind others holding Emily. In fact, she was happy that so many people loved her daughter.
With Pearl's approval, Jimena carefully picked up Emily.
