Chapter 494 What Else Are You Hiding from Me?
Kevin was thrown into the lab.
They forced poisons down his throat, making him writhe in agony, his face pale and foaming at the mouth.
No one showed mercy, especially RavenWing, who kept cutting him with a knife during his worst moments.
"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been separated from Carol. She wouldn't have resented me for years. You even created a fake Carol to deceive me. If it weren't for Louis's suspicion, Carol would be dead."
RavenWing only cared about Carol, never mentioning Kevin's power grab.
He had been separated from Carol for so long, searching everywhere for her, unable to accept her death.
Even after finding her, Carol had grown distant. No matter how hard he tried, she wouldn't give him a chance.
Kevin had even locked Carol in the lab before, using her as a test subject.
Now, RavenWing wanted Kevin to suffer a fate worse than death.
After torturing Kevin, he cut off his hands and feet.
Fearing Kevin might bite his tongue to commit suicide, he even pulled out his tongue.
Satisfied with the result, RavenWing told Louis, "The person who tortured Carol has been punished. Go tell Carol to come."
"Okay," Louis responded and was about to find Pearl.
As he was about to leave, RavenWing called out, "By the way, put in a good word for me with Carol. I want to see her."
"Okay," Louis responded and then left the lab.
Ever since Pearl met Oscar, she had been distracted.
She wondered why Oscar, who was alive, hadn't seen her or looked for her in five years.
"You have something on your mind," a hoarse voice sounded in her ear.
Pearl looked up to see Louis walking towards her in a white shirt.
Pearl pursed her lips and said softly, "Not really. Since you've caught Kevin, I'm leaving."
"Pearl, I came to ask if you wanted to go see Kevin. Also, are you really planning to return to Serenea to continue your work as a war correspondent?"
Louis stepped in front of her and then sat beside her.
Pearl was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "For now, I have a lot of unfinished business. As for Kevin, there's nothing worth seeing."
Kevin was a heinous person. Without him, she and Oscar wouldn't have been poisoned, and Jeffery and Barbara wouldn't have suffered.
There wouldn't have been any slave camps.
And she wouldn't have been locked in the lab as a test subject by Kevin. She would never forget these things, and neither would Louis and RavenWing.
With their methods, they would surely make Kevin suffer a fate worse than death.
So, knowing the outcome, why would she bother?
"Could you at least see RavenWing? He’s missed you all these years and hasn’t bothered you since you came to Eldorians. Because of you, he cut off Kevin’s hands and feet, never mentioning Kevin’s ambitions, only saying Kevin affected you. Pearl, if you’re willing, Eldorians can be yours," Louis said, his voice hoarse but steady.
She didn’t expect RavenWing to be so ruthless. But then again, what bad things hadn’t the Eldorians done back in the day?
Pearl took a deep breath. "I don’t want to manage Eldorians. I said when I came, I was just cooperating with you."
"But Pearl, the blood ties between us can never be severed. Do you plan to never acknowledge us?"
Louis had never demanded anything from Pearl or spoken harshly to her. But at this moment, he had to let Pearl know they were family.
"Don’t talk about that. I think my life is good now, Louis."
"I am your brother."
Louis had never demanded anything from Pearl. He believed time would prove everything. But he didn’t expect that after five years, Pearl still couldn’t let go.
Pearl didn’t respond. She looked at Louis, not knowing what to say.
Everything was just as she had told Louis. Her earliest memories began in Willow Creek, where she grew up. She had no memories of Eldorians and couldn’t recall anything. She accepted her fate, but how could she devote to a family bond without any feelings?
Pearl felt distressed. "If you need anything, you can find me. But RavenWing, I don’t want to see him."
"Why? No matter how bad he is, he’s still your father. Pearl, he has never wronged you. If you weren’t RavenWing’s daughter, how would you have met Jeffery and Barbara? He never got into your room. Pearl, what can we do to make you believe we are sincere?"
Louis’s eyes were filled with sincerity and determination.
Pearl’s throat felt like it was being choked, and she couldn’t breathe.
Just as Louis was about to say more, Pearl’s phone rang.
Seeing the ID, Pearl frowned.
Although she had been a war correspondent for five years, she hadn’t changed her number. This number was from the Serenea region.
She hesitated for a moment but still answered the call.
To her surprise, Oscar’s voice came through the phone.
"Don’t go back to Serenea. Stay in Eldorians."
It wasn’t the hoarse voice she had just heard. So, Oscar’s voice was just specially processed, not injured. If Oscar was doing so well, why hadn’t he contacted her? She couldn’t understand.
"Why? Give me a reason. And why haven’t you seen me all these years? You haven’t given me any explanation, and you still want me to listen to you? Do you think that’s possible?"
Pearl became more and more agitated, and Louis realized from her words that Oscar was still alive. He hadn’t expected someone who had been dead for five years to come back, especially at such a critical moment!
Louis stood silently by, his heart filled with a myriad of emotions, yet he remained silent.
Pearl shouted again, "Oscar! It’s been five years, and you’re still hiding things from me! If you don’t tell me the truth, do you believe I’ll let you see my corpse! Oscar, answer me! I’m talking to you!"
