Chapter 832 He Is for Her
Saskia didn't want to leave. "I'm not going. Don't make me leave."
Nathaniel stood by the floor-to-ceiling window.
Hearing her, he turned his face slightly. His expression was hard to read in the light and shadow, but there was an unexpected softness. "Benjamin will be out of school soon. He'll be worried if he doesn't see you."
Saskia felt like she was choking.
In the end, she had no choice but to leave. She remind Marcus to keep an eye on Nathaniel before she went.
After getting Marcus's assurance, she reluctantly left.
When she picked Benjamin up from school and brought him home, he looked around the house and came out looking disappointed.
"Mom, didn't Mr. Egan come today?"
"Mr. Egan had something he couldn't get away from. He should be here later. Can you wait a little longer, Benjamin?"
Nathaniel had been coming over a lot recently. Almost every day, he would join Saskia to pick Benjamin up from school, and the three of them would often have dinner together.
Benjamin had gotten used to having him around, but he was very understanding.
Even though he was disappointed by what Saskia said, he didn't throw a fit, waiting quietly.
Saskia almost wished he would throw a fit. Seeing him so quiet made her heart ache.
Fortunately, Nathaniel did come that evening.
Maybe he didn't want to disappoint Benjamin either. When he arrived, he was back to his usual self. "I'm late, Benjamin. Look what I got for you."
Benjamin happily ran over to take the treat from his hand.
The atmosphere became cheerful.
Saskia looked Nathaniel up and down, and seeing that he seemed to be really okay, she finally felt at ease.
After dinner, the two of them had a chance to sit down and talk.
Nathaniel shared his plans. "I've thought about it. If I can't be a lawyer, I'll stay with the Egan Group. You're there too."
Saskia's heart was unexpectedly touched. She couldn't believe it. "Is it for me?"
She had considered many reasons why Nathaniel might give up being a lawyer, but she never thought it would be for her.
Because this was Nathaniel, someone who could give up an easily inherited family business to pursue his own dreams from scratch.
For someone like him to give up his beliefs for someone else was too difficult.
She didn't want that too."You can't do this."
"I can. Who says I can't?"
Nathaniel was serious. It was clear this wasn't a rash decision but something he had thought through carefully.
The warm light softened his usual cold demeanor. He spoke each word clearly, "I've said it before, I'm willing to do anything for you. If giving up my beliefs is inevitable, then stepping back to stay with you is the best choice."
This time, just like years ago at the crossroads, it was his own choice.
Saskia was stunned. She had never felt her heart beat so fast, as if it was going to burst out of her chest.
She instinctively placed her hand over her heart, trying to calm herself down, but she couldn't.
All she could see was Nathaniel's serious expression as he spoke.
At that moment, a young voice interrupted, sleepy and mumbling, "Mom, Mr. Egan, what are you talking about? I can't sleep."
Saskia quickly stood up. "I'll go check on Benjamin."
She said that and almost fled the room.
Nathaniel watched her panicked departure, the darkness in his eyes lightening a bit, sitting quietly for a long time.
After that, Nathaniel did exactly as he said.
Ignoring public opinion, Nathaniel announced he was resigning from his position as a lawyer to dedicate himself to the Egan Group.
The announcement caused quite a stir, sparking widespread discussion.
There were praises, but also criticisms.
However, the damage was minimized. Since Nathaniel was no longer a lawyer, the issue of lawyers not being allowed to engage in business was no longer a problem.
The buildings in the Flower Coast District entered the demolition phase.
Besides, the matter of Kirk being manipulated, which had been elusive, finally had a lead.
"Kirk has been frequenting casinos lately. Someone saw him with a large amount of cash. I suspect the mastermind didn't transfer money online but used cash," Saskia speculated.
Marcus nodded in agreement.
Then he turned and saw Nathaniel looking at him.
Nathaniel pointed at him, looking confused. "You want me to do it?"
Under Nathaniel's undeniable gaze, Marcus nodded reluctantly, feeling sorry for himself.
Saskia interjected, "I can go too. I found the lead, so it's easier for me to investigate."
Nathaniel frowned.
Just as Saskia was about to persuade him, something surprising happened. He didn't refuse. "Don't go too deep. If you can find out, do it. If not, just bring Kirk back."
His words were commanding.
Saskia couldn't help but glance at him. He had just resigned as a lawyer and was already fitting into his new role so quickly?
She and Marcus went to investigate together.
Surprisingly, it went smoothly. They caught Kirk red-handed at the place where he was withdrawing money.
He was taking money from a locker at a swimming pool.
When they arrived, Kirk was counting the money sneakily, so they didn't need to break into the locker. They had both the person and the evidence.
Caught red-handed, Kirk quickly confessed, "I don't know who you're talking about. I've never met him."
"Never met? Then how did you connect?"
"He contacted me through messages and proposed a deal. I needed money at the time, and what he wanted wasn't too difficult, so I agreed."
Saskia counted the cash from the locker.
A large stack of bills, looking like several thousand dollars, and Kirk didn't seem like it was his first time withdrawing money.
So, this amount was probably quite substantial.
No wonder Kirk would rather forgo the Egan Group's compensation and incite people to oppose the demolition.
But now they had caught him red-handed.
Ignoring his excuses, Saskia decisively called the police, explained the situation, and had the company's legal team ensure the money went to Kirk's sick mother.
As for him, he was sentenced to three years for inciting trouble and other crimes.
After handling the matter, Saskia stretched, feeling tired.
But her heart wasn't weary. Instead, she felt a sense of lightness and joy.
"Ms. Fuller, there's a meeting later. The president asked me to inform you to prepare," someone knocked on the door and said.
Saskia checked the time and quickly got ready.
In the conference room.
The team was in the middle of discussing a project proposal when the door suddenly opened.
Caleb strolled in, a faint smile on his lips. "I'm late. Is there still a seat for me?"
He looked at an empty chair.
The employees didn't dare to speak.
Nathaniel watched him coldly as he walked over and sat down casually, as if he were at home.
"Continue," Nathaniel said, tapping the table, his voice low and authoritative.
The person who had been interrupted remembered their task and nervously continued.
"The bid for the Crescent District is…"
