Chapter 831 Brothers

Saskia saw Nathaniel, and her face instantly turned cold.

She had a suspicion in her heart.

"I'm his secretary." She explained with a faint smile.

Caleb Egan glanced at her, looking surprised. "My brother hasn't won you over yet? That's surprising. I thought you two were already..."

"This has nothing to do with you," Nathaniel cut in, his voice icy.

Caleb paused.

The two men stared each other down.

They didn't say a word, but the tension was thick, like a powder keg ready to blow.

Caleb's smile faded a bit, and he shoved his hands into his pockets. "I can't compare to you, always knowing what you want. Dad tried so hard to get you into the company, but you insisted on being a lawyer. I admire your persistence."

Though he said he admired it, his eyes were full of provocation.

Nathaniel's eyes narrowed, his gaze cold. "What I do is none of your business."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Saskia followed him.

Caleb's voice trailed after them, "Ms. Fuller, I look forward to seeing you again."

Once they were in the car, Nathaniel's cold demeanor hadn't softened.

Anyone could see he was upset.

Saskia, guessing that his relationship with Caleb wasn't great, tried to comfort him. "Nathaniel, don't let it get to you."

"Saskia, avoid him whenever you see him," Nathaniel said, turning to look at her seriously.

Saskia was taken aback.

"Did you hear me?"

She nodded, and Nathaniel's expression eased slightly.

Saskia's suspicion about Caleb's identity grew stronger.

He must be the illegitimate son Nathaniel had mentioned...

Saskia didn't think much of Caleb.

After all, Caleb wasn't part of the Egan Group, so they probably wouldn't cross paths again.

However, the next day, she heard that Caleb had joined the company.

He was parachuted in as a vice president, and despite Nathaniel's precedent, everyone was still shocked.

"Why did we suddenly get a new VP?"

"Mr. Nathaniel Egan has been managing the company well. We never heard of this guy before."

Someone curiously asked Saskia.

Caught off guard, Saskia stammered, "I don't really know."

Fortunately, no one noticed her unease.

People continued to discuss the new VP.

Saskia, however, was worried about Nathaniel.

Caleb had never been in the company before, and now he suddenly appeared. It was obvious who was doing this.

Robbie had always claimed he wanted Nathaniel to take over the company, but now but now he was letting Caleb take the position of vice president.

Saskia didn't know how Nathaniel would feel, but she knew if she were him, she'd be devastated.

"You guys chat, I need to step out for a bit." She said, leaving the group.

Saskia headed straight to the CEO's office.

The soundproofing was too good; she could only faintly hear voices inside.

Inside the office, Caleb swaggered in, looking around as if he owned the place. "This office looks pretty nice."

Nathaniel put down his documents. "Who gave you permission to come in without knocking?"

"I'm a VP now. Entering an office isn't a big deal."

"Get out."

Caleb smirked. "Come on, Nathaniel. We're brothers. No need to be like this. Dad wants us to get along, right?"

Nathaniel's eyes flashed with a hint of sarcasm. "You know what he really wants."

If Robbie truly cared about either of them, he wouldn't force them into this awkward situation.

Caleb's expression turned grim. "I've always hated your superior attitude. You're just lucky you were born into a better position."

"If you're done, you can leave," Nathaniel said, not wanting to hear more.

Caleb sneered. "You had everything and didn't appreciate it. Now that I'm here, don't think the Egan Group is yours alone. Just wait and see."

Nathaniel watched him leave coldly.

The office door opened.

Saskia stepped back, her expression clearly showing she didn't want to talk to Caleb.

But Caleb was always one to push boundaries.

"Ms. Fuller, we meet again. What did I say last time?"

"Mr. Caleb Egan."

Seeing her cold demeanor, Caleb raised an eyebrow and glanced behind her. "Working for my brother must be exhausting. His icy demeanor must be annoying. Why not work for me? I could use a secretary."

Nathaniel's voice, as cold as ice, cut in. "Caleb, do you think I'm dead?"

Caleb was about to speak.

Saskia politely but firmly refused. "No, thank you. I'm not interested."

She didn't care if she embarrassed the new VP.

Caleb's face fell as Saskia brushed past him.

Saskia placed a stack of documents in front of Nathaniel. "Mr. Egan, these need your approval."

She didn't look away, instead watching Nathaniel intently.

Nathaniel couldn't ignore it. "If you have something to say, just say it."

His tone was a bit harsh.

But compared to the icy tone from earlier, it was much better.

"I won't go to Caleb," Saskia reassured, knowing what he was worried about.

Nathaniel paused.

It was a small reaction, but she noticed.

"Where you go is none of my business." He said, trying to sound indifferent, but a small smile tugged at his lips.

However, things didn't improve as they had hoped.

After the Flower Coast District project got on track, Nathaniel wanted to step down.

As for Caleb, who had been subtly competing with him for projects, Nathaniel didn't want to deal with him.

But the PR department's efforts to suppress rumors failed, and the situation only worsened.

Soon, the law firm decided to remove Nathaniel.

Surprisingly, Nathaniel took the news calmly. He even went to the firm himself to resign formally.

Saskia accompanied him.

Leaving the firm, Nathaniel held a neatly organized folder, his eyes as lifeless as a still pond.

"Nathaniel, if you don't want to resign, why not go back and..."

"No need."

Saskia was stunned.

Nathaniel set the folder aside, his voice barely audible. "Throw it away. If I can't be a lawyer, then I won't."

"But you've worked so hard for this." Saskia said, panicking.

Hearing Nathaniel give up on his career, she was more anxious than he was.

Saskia tried everything to persuade him.

But Nathaniel wouldn't listen. For the first time, he didn't want her around. "You should go. I need some time alone."
