Chapter 248 Stepmother

Magdalen didn't expect Hathaway's call and lost her temper instantly. "What's the deal? Did Haley go running to you? So what! I can handle her myself!"

"Where are you now?" Hathaway asked, plotting her revenge.

"Why should I tell you? Who do you think you are?" Magdalen snapped, frustrated with no one to vent her anger on.

Hathaway sneered, "Scared? I know your beauty salon got trashed. Now you're just a coward!"

"I've never been afraid of you. If you hadn't married Alfonso, I wouldn't even acknowledge you as part of the Brown family!" Magdalen shot back.

"Fine, then come out and face me!" Hathaway retorted.

"Fine, come out here. You wanna fight dirty? Two can play at that game!" Magdalen hung up, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.

Pearl called out, "Magdalen, where are you going? I'll go with you."

Magdalen looked at Pearl, "You stay here. Hathaway wants to stand up for Haley. I'll give her that chance. Let's see if she can turn things around!"

"Magdalen!" Pearl chased after her, but Magdalen got into a cab and left.

"Adrian, I need to go too," Pearl said, fearing a trap.

With so many people online denouncing Magdalen, if her whereabouts were exposed and something happens, she won't have anyone to help her.

"I'll take you," Adrian agreed, seeing her urgency.

Magdalen arrived at the cemetery Hathaway mentioned, her face grim. She saw Hathaway standing by her father's tombstone, with Haley beside her.

Haley said, "Hathaway, don't break ties with Magdalen because of me. It wouldn't look good in front of David. Let's just leave."

Hathaway held Haley's hand, knowing she couldn't hear, and wrote: [This is something I must do, Haley. I will get justice for you!]

"Hathaway!" Magdalen called out, walking over.

Hathaway's face changed. "You're just in time. Today, in front of Dad, we'll settle this. You hurt Haley, and you must pay!"

Magdalen sneered, "I don't even want to talk to you! Haley doesn't remember your kindness. If you had treated Oscar better, things wouldn't be like this. You've been in the Brown family for years and still can't tell who's more important!"

"I don't need your lecture!" Hathaway said coldly. "I'm Oscar's mother. What are you? Just his aunt. Do you think an aunt is closer than a mother?"

Magdalen smiled. "Of course, I am closer to Oscar. You abandoned him. If it weren't for me, he would have died in the cradle."

Hathaway, with red-rimmed eyes, replied, "If you want to talk about the past, blame the Brown family. It's Alfonso's fault. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have had nowhere to go!"

Hearing this, Magdalen, despite not agreeing with Alfonso's actions, liked Hathaway even less.

"So you destroyed one family after another! You've never considered your own mistakes!"

"I did nothing wrong!" Hathaway exclaimed. "It's all because of you all pushing me!"

Seeing their intense argument, Haley tried to mediate, "Magdalen, don't argue with Hathaway. She's just acting on impulse. I'm fine, I don't blame you. Hathaway, both of you take a step back, stop arguing."

"This has nothing to do with you!" Magdalen snapped at Haley. "You say you don't blame me, but you told Hathaway. You just want her to punish me. Pretending to be a saint, you're the kind of person I despise the most!"

Hathaway immediately pushed her. "Who are you cursing at? Talking behind her back like that, how shameless can you be!"

"I'm not as heartless as you!" Magdalen shoved back.

"How dare you lay a hand on me!" Hathaway glared.

"Let's see how I deal with you!"

Without another word, they started grappling.

Pearl and Adrian arrived just in time to witness the scene, both panicking.

Haley stood nearby, pale and motionless.

"Magdalen!"

The cemetery had steps, and their scuffle could easily lead to an accident.

Pearl hurried over.

Seeing Pearl so worried, Adrian quickly followed. "Pearl, be careful."

He was afraid she might get hurt.

Hathaway and Magdalen were locked in a fierce struggle, neither willing to back down, their hair disheveled.

"It's you who drove my son away from me, and now you're bullying Haley. Dad is watching you from heaven, and he won't bless you!" Hathaway shouted.

Magdalen retorted, "If you had treated Oscar better, things wouldn't be like this. Saying these things now is meaningless. Dad knew what kind of person you were. He knew you weren't a good mother, so he tried to arrange a marriage for Oscar while he was still alive!"

"It must have been you who said something to Dad. Otherwise, he wouldn't have let someone like Pearl marry into our family!"

"I never said anything. Dad and I both liked Pearl!" Magdalen shot back. "You're just a wretch, that's why Alfonso doesn't love you. If you hadn't used tricks back then, he wouldn't have married you!"

These words infuriated Hathaway, and she slapped Magdalen across the face. "You're lying! He changed his heart, he betrayed me!"

Magdalen's face turned red with a bright handprint, and she slapped back. "You blame him, but why can you resort to any means to harm Oscar! Oscar isn't your biological son, that's why you're so cold to him. If you weren't trying to please Alfonso, you wouldn't have Oscar. You've ruined his life! You owe Oscar for the rest of your life!"

These words shocked Pearl. She stopped in her tracks, staring at them in a daze and thinking to herself, 'What were they saying? Oscar wasn't Hathaway's biological son?'

And behind them, Oscar stood, his gaze coldly fixed on them.
