Chapter 837 Not Scolding You Is Already Good Enough

The woman's expression shifted slightly. "Are you trying to scare me with this?"

"Whether it's scary or not depends on how you act. Something left behind could be seen as lost property, but to others, it might look like bait. How is it wrong for someone to return lost property?" Saskia's eyes were filled with sarcasm.

The woman realized she couldn't out-argue Saskia, and her face turned sour.

The murmurs around them shifted.

"You're just trying to dodge responsibility! I've never seen someone like you. Your kid messes up, and instead of feeling any guilt, you act all high and mighty."

"You insult my mom, and I'm not even cursing you out right now. That's me being nice. Do you still expect me to speak politely to you?"

Saskia's expression was one of utter disbelief.

The woman was breathing heavily, gritting her teeth. She glanced to the side and gave her daughter a fierce look.

Saskia looked over.

She was shocked.

The girl was too thin, her hair dry and yellow from malnutrition.

The woman pushed the girl, and she fell to the ground, rubbing her eyes and crying.

The woman pointed at Saskia and said, "You scared my daughter! Pay up!"

Saskia wanted to ask if the woman had lost her mind.

But the woman's direct approach made Saskia understand her intentions. She was likely here to extort money.

Judging by how well the mother and daughter worked together, this probably wasn't their first time.

Saskia looked at the girl again, feeling genuine pity.

But she wasn't a saint.

She had no mercy for scammers. She immediately took out her phone. "If we can't resolve this, I'll call the police."

The woman was stunned, not expecting such a strong response.

"No police!"

"What, are you going to snatch my phone too? With all these people watching, you can't get away with it."

Seeing the woman's exaggerated reaction, Saskia felt a sense of satisfaction.

The only way to deal with unreasonable people is to be even more unreasonable.

"Get your daughter up. The ground is cold, and sitting too long isn't good." Saskia reminded her calmly.

The woman was utterly humiliated. She yanked the girl up and twisted her ear harshly. "Useless thing, let's go home."

The girl stumbled and winced from the pain.

Her mother was using a lot of force.

A small girl couldn't bear it, but she didn't dare make a sound, holding back her tears.

It was pitiful.

Even Saskia felt a pang of sympathy, her anger dissipating. "Wait."

She called out to the mother and daughter.

The woman turned, her eyes flickering, avoiding Saskia's gaze. "What do you want now?"

"You spoke to my mom like that and bullied a child. Don't you think you should apologize? You can leave after you apologize."

"Don't push it."

Saskia let out a cold laugh.

This was pushing it? She could push further.

Without saying more, she hovered her finger over the call button, ready to dial the police.

The woman panicked, her face changing several times before she finally, with a look of humiliation, said, "I'm sorry."

Then she dragged the girl away.

The girl was almost dragged the whole way, her small frame looking especially helpless next to her mother.

Saskia sighed softly.

Benjamin tugged at her. "Mom, that girl looked so pitiful."

Saskia could only pat Benjamin's head, trying to comfort him. She couldn't promise to help the girl. There were too many cases like this, and it was impossible to help them all. Besides, meddling in other people's family affairs was unrealistic.

She had to rethink her previous thoughts. Not all mothers love their children. Some are selfish and bad.

Saskia worried that today's incident might affect Benjamin's worldview. A child's character and worldview are crucial.

Saskia worried all the way home, gently probing Benjamin to comfort him. But Benjamin was more adaptable than she thought. He even said something that surprised her, "I know that girl's mom is a bad mom, but my mom isn't, so I won't listen to her."

Saskia was stunned for a moment before smiling in relief.

Once Heidi's condition stabilized and she no longer woke up in the middle of the night, Saskia returned to work.

Her assistant's envy was almost palpable. "Ms. Fuller, you have so many vacation days. Can you ask Mr. Egan to give me some? Just a little would be enough."

She clearly didn't want to work anymore and just needed a break.

Saskia chuckled. "You'll have to ask Mr. Egan yourself."

The assistant shivered at the thought. "Never mind."

"Ms. Fuller, can you help deliver these documents to Mr. Egan?"

A female employee peeked over.

Saskia nodded. "Sure, I don't have anything else to do right now. Give them to me."

She took the documents and paused. "Pearl Harbor?" Saskia read the title.

The assistant glanced at it and was also surprised. "Is the Pearl Harbor project starting already? We just planned it last year. I thought it wouldn't start until the end of this year."

Someone nearby chimed in with a smile, "Well, it's almost the end of the year."

That reminded Saskia that the year was indeed coming to a close. Time seemed to fly by. She still felt like it was just yesterday when she had Benjamin, and now he was in preschool. The year was almost over.

The end of the year meant a lot of work for the company. Everyone sighed but remained excited.

Saskia quietly left the office. Carrying a stack of documents, she knocked on the door. After a while, there was no response. Just as she was about to push the door open, the top document started to slip.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Nathaniel reached out to steady the stack, his long fingers deftly placing it back. "Why are you carrying so much by yourself?"

Nathaniel frowned, clearly thinking of something unpleasant.

Saskia didn't want him to misunderstand. "I offered to help. Mr. Egan, could you open the door for me?"

Nathaniel didn't open the door. He took half of the documents from her and walked in before she could react.

"Why are you still standing at the door? Come in."

"These are project documents. There's one for Pearl Harbor. Has that project started?"

Saskia put down the documents, unable to contain her curiosity.

"Yes, the shareholders decided yesterday. I'll be personally overseeing this project. You'll be involved too." Nathaniel said calmly.

Saskia was a bit surprised but quickly accepted it. Maybe he needed to boost his performance. Caleb joining the company had put pressure on Nathaniel. They had to compete and prove their abilities.
