Chapter 815 Gossip

Saskia's heart was racing.

She hurried over to check on Benjamin. "You alright? Did you hurt yourself? Let me see."

"I'm good. Just bumped into that lady," Benjamin said, tugging at his shirt, looking a bit embarrassed.

Saskia glanced up, ready to apologize, but the woman just turned and walked away without a word.

Did Saskia look that intimidating?

"That person was wearing a mask and looked kinda shady. Don't sweat it," Nathaniel said, frowning.

Saskia decided to let it go after hearing that.

Luckily, Benjamin was okay.

Nathaniel continued, "You worry too much about Benjamin. A little bump here and there won't hurt him."

Saskia replied, "I just can't help it."

Nathaniel was right, and Saskia knew it herself. But habits were hard to break.

They didn't dwell on the incident, happily helping Benjamin pick out school supplies.

Little did they know that the woman who had run off had removed her mask and was secretly taking pictures of the happy family from a corner.

Saskia bought Benjamin a pencil case, a backpack, and some pencils. They left the store with their hands full.

They even stopped for ice cream.

By the end of the day, Benjamin was so tired that he fell asleep in the car.

Saskia held him for a while, but her arms started to ache.

Seeing her flexing her wrist, Nathaniel reached out. "Let me hold him. We still have a bit of a drive left, and you look tired."

Saskia carefully transferred Benjamin over.

Benjamin stirred a bit in Nathaniel's arms, then found a comfortable position and slept soundly.

Saskia watched, her expression softening.

Gradually, she began to feel weary as well, her eyelids growing heavy. She couldn't even recall how she had drifted off to sleep.

Saskia leaned against Nathaniel's shoulder.

Nathaniel adjusted her position so she could rest more comfortably.

When she woke up, the car was already parked outside their building.

Saskia groggily opened her eyes. "Are we here?"

Nathaniel responded with a soft "yeah," his voice a bit hoarse from the nap, still holding Benjamin.

The atmosphere was oddly harmonious—so much so that Saskia felt as if they were a married couple.

Startled by her own thoughts, Saskia reached out to take Benjamin from Nathaniel. "Thanks for holding him. I'll carry him inside."

"I'll do it," Nathaniel insisted.

The three of them took the elevator up.

An elderly lady with a kind face was in the elevator with them. She smiled when she saw them.

"Saskia, is this Benjamin's dad?" she asked.

Saskia was about to deny it.

"Yes, I'm Benjamin's dad," Nathaniel said before she could.

Seeing the old lady's understanding expression, Saskia felt like there was no point in explaining. After all, it was the truth, so she let it go.

Then, Nathaniel put Benjamin to bed and tucked him in.

"Thanks for today. You should head home; it's getting late," Saskia said, feeling a bit awkward. Nathaniel had spent the entire day with them, yet now she was sending him away.

But she couldn't allow him to stay.

Nathaniel asked, "How do you plan to find Azalea?"

Saskia was stunned. "What?"

Seeing Saskia's surprised look, Nathaniel continued, "Like you said, this might be a plot against either of us. Maybe Azalea is trying to warn you. So how do you plan to find her?""I haven't figured it out yet, but I should probably find a job first," Saskia said after a moment of thought.

Nathaniel asked, "What kind of job?"

Saskia replied, "I'm still looking."

"In that case, why not work for me?" Nathaniel suggested directly.

Saskia was taken aback and wanted to refuse.

Nathaniel anticipated her reaction and said, "Don't rush to say no. If you work elsewhere, whether in HR or another role, the salary won't be as good. The Egan Group offers much better compensation. I can give you more than anyone else."

Saskia fell silent.

If this were a romantic line, it would be the most touching one. Who wouldn't want a good salary?

But working under Nathaniel was too much for Saskia to handle.

Saskia looked at Nathaniel, pondering for a long time. "Let me think about it," she replied.

Nathaniel wasn't in a hurry. He gave Saskia three days to make her decision. In three days, Benjamin would be starting kindergarten. With Benjamin at school, Saskia would have time to work.

Saskia sent out many resumes, but the results were disappointing.

Either the salary was too low, or the employers didn't want a single mom, thinking Saskia couldn't fully commit to the job.

This made Saskia angry. In her frustration, Nathaniel's offer started to seem like the best option.

Saskia was torn.

"I need some advice. I have a friend..." She called Pearl.

Hearing the familiar opening, Pearl responded knowingly, "You have a friend, huh? And then?"

Saskia said, "It's not me."

Pearl responded, "Sure. Go on."

Saskia took a deep breath and explained her situation.

Pearl was decisive. "What's there to hesitate about? Obviously, take the better offer. The opportunity is right there. Just take it."

Saskia emphasized again, "It's really not me. Never mind."

Pearl said, "There's nothing to hesitate about. It's just a job. You can just see him as your boss."

That was true.

Saskia hung up, deep in thought.

But she didn't give Nathaniel an answer right away. She still had a day left. She'd decide after taking Benjamin to kindergarten.

However, before she could decide, a storm of online gossip erupted.

A trending topic quickly rose to the top: "Secrets of the Rich! Unveiling the True Face of the Egan Group's CEO: Sharing Sisters?"

That day, Twitter was abuzz.

Saskia didn't usually check Twitter, so she found out later. By the time she saw it, the comments were overwhelmingly negative.

She clicked through and saw that someone had dug up everything about her and Azalea and posted it online.

Just then, her phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Saskia tried to stay calm. "Nathaniel, are you okay?" she asked.

"I'm fine. Take care of Benjamin. I won't be coming over for a while," Nathaniel said, not mentioning his situation, just giving a brief instruction.

But Saskia knew Nathaniel well.

When he said nothing, it usually meant something big was happening.

"Are you sure you're okay? I can help clear things up. The rumors are bad for the Egan Group," Saskia said, frowning.

Nathaniel replied, "No need. Just take care of yourself."

After a few more words, he hung up.

Saskia looked at her phone and then at Benjamin, who was still napping. The housekeeper would come to clean soon, and she was reliable.

Saskia decisively took a cab to the Egan Group.
