Chapter 881 I Regret It

As Saskia's career took off, she became increasingly busy, leaving early and coming home late. Eventually, their schedules rarely aligned, and Nathaniel hardly saw her.

Having been apart before, Nathaniel cherished every moment he spent with Saskia. Now that she was so busy, he was far from pleased.

One day, he confronted her.

"I used to think I could balance home, work, and family. But now, Saskia, you're leaving me and Benjamin at home? Do I need to make an appointment just to see you?"

Saskia was taken aback by his words.

She sighed and smiled, "I'm just busy for now. Once this period is over, I'll be able to spend time with you."

She wanted to catch up to Nathaniel's level, to stand beside him as an equal rather than someone dependent on him.

Nathaniel was not satisfied. "Once a pattern starts, it can repeat indefinitely. I've worked before; you can't fool me. Do you think that's possible?"

Saskia felt even more helpless. "How am I fooling you? Nathaniel, you promised me you'd support me. Now, are you unhappy seeing me busy? Are you changing your mind?"

Nathaniel's lips tightened, and he remained silent.

To Saskia, his silence was an admission.

At that moment, Nathaniel thought Jade's suggestion of having more kids was a good idea.

"Saskia, while we're still young, let's have more children."

Nathaniel wrapped his arm around Saskia's waist and lifted her.

Saskia struggled in his arms. "Nathaniel, what are you doing? You told me we should wait to have kids, and now..."

"I've changed my mind," Nathaniel interrupted, sealing his words with a kiss.

Saskia was no match for him, especially since her body was so familiar with his.

In the end, they were both exhausted.

However, Saskia had no intention of having children so soon; she took birth control pills.

Seeing her take the pills, Nathaniel was displeased. "Wouldn't it be great to have more kids while we're young? Saskia, I want you by my side all the time."

Having lost her once, he was now overly cautious.

But hadn't Nathaniel's psychological issues been resolved?

Saskia felt the need to clarify things with him. "It's not that I don't want kids; I just think we should focus on our careers right now. Nathaniel, you understand me, so why are you acting like this?"

"No matter how busy I am, no matter what I'm doing, I still come home. You're still my husband."

"And your idea of me being with you 24/7 is unrealistic."

"Then take me with you. I'll be your assistant and secretary."

Saskia couldn't help but laugh at his request. "If you become my assistant and secretary, won't people gossip even more? I don't want to be the subject of rumors."

"Besides, you're still Mr. Egan. Aren't you worried your employees will laugh at you?"

Saskia laid out all the reasons for Nathaniel.

Nathaniel didn't care. "Let them talk. We'll live our lives. They can't walk my path."

"Stop! We're not having kids right now. If you keep thinking like this, I'll be really upset!" Saskia's firm stance left Nathaniel with little to say.

But actions spoke louder than words.

If she ended up pregnant, would Saskia consider an abortion?

With this thought, Nathaniel took action. But Saskia had to go on a business trip, leaving Nathaniel frustrated and distracted at work.

His assistant noticed and was worried. "Mr. Egan, should I call Mrs. Egan back?"

The assistant had seen Nathaniel's distraction ever since Saskia stopped being his secretary and focused on her work.

It was clear Nathaniel missed Saskia.

"She's on a business trip. How can you call her back?"

Nathaniel sighed deeply, full of melancholy.

The assistant suggested, "What if I say you're sick?"

It was a good idea, but the problem was that Nathaniel, a grown man, claiming to be sick, would sound ridiculous.

And the Egan family wasn't just him.

"Forget it. That won't work."

"Then..."

The assistant racked his brain for solutions, but Nathaniel was too agitated. "Forget it. Leave me alone. I'll think of something myself."

But he couldn't come up with a good plan on his own.

Oscar had plenty of advice from his time with Pearl.

So Nathaniel called Oscar to set up a meeting.

Quincy and James couldn't make it; they had other commitments.

Only Oscar and Harold showed up.

Seeing Nathaniel's troubled expression, Harold teased, "What are you worried about? You have a wife and kids."

Saskia had also made strides in her career.

Nathaniel sighed deeply. "Do you guys know any way to keep your wife by your side?"

"Oscar, how did you convince Pearl to have a second child?"

Oscar chuckled at Nathaniel's distress. "So you want a second child now? Your wife won't agree?"

Nathaniel took a sip of his drink. "Saskia isn't against it. It's just... she's focused on her career and getting busier. I want her by my side, but she says it's too early for kids. You guys are married; you understand how I feel, right?"

Harold laughed and shook his head. "You accepted her flaws, but can't accept her success? Marriage isn't just about you and me; there are other things to do."

"Wanting her to be with you 24/7 is too much, Nathaniel."

Nathaniel and Saskia had been together for a long time, and their child was already grown.

Nathaniel's behavior was puzzling.

Oscar agreed, "Harold's right. If you're feeling this way, maybe you should talk to Quincy. Oh, Quincy isn't in Willow Creek. How about I recommend a good therapist?"
