Chapter 757 Seeing was believing

Nathaniel's sharp tongue didn't hold back, and in just a few sentences, he had Saskia feeling completely humiliated.

She tried to explain, "There's really nothing between us. We just bumped into each other today and chatted for a bit."

But Nathaniel cut her off before she could finish. "Oh, really? So, you've just had a parade of guys around you these past four years? A woman like you, even if you got pregnant, you probably wouldn't know who the father is."

Saskia's body trembled violently.

Nathaniel could throw all the insults he wanted at her, but dragging her child into it was crossing the line.

Saskia said, "Nathaniel, you're the only man I've ever been with. Even if I were pregnant, the child would only be..."

"Are you trying to say the child would be mine?" Nathaniel stared directly into her eyes. "I still remember the night before you left. I asked you what you would do if you got pregnant, and you didn't hesitate to tell me you'd get an abortion!"

Back then, he was thinking that if Saskia got pregnant, they would get married.

Even if Robbie and Jade disapproved, he would insist on marrying Saskia.

Once they got their marriage license, they would be legally married. When the baby was born, they would be the happiest family of three.

Eventually, Robbie and Jade would have to compromise. If they didn't, then Nathaniel wouldn't go back.

But Saskia's words had been like a slap in the face. She had chosen to abort without hesitation, and now she was trying to deceive him with this nonsense.

Thinking of this, Nathaniel retorted, "Your lies are ridiculous. Do you really think I would believe you, have sympathy for you, and accept your child as my own just so we could live happily ever after as a family?"

"I didn't lie. I just don't want to be involved with you. I hope you can set me free. You look down on me so much—just see me as a rat in the gutter and let me go." Saskia had no other demands.

But letting go was the one thing Nathaniel couldn't do.

"Not a chance. You're coming back with me right now." He grabbed Saskia and began to pull her away. "You just used my card. Now give me back the money."

It wasn't really about the twenty thousand dollars.

If Saskia had spent the money on her own medical treatment or for luxury items, Nathaniel wouldn't have said a word.

But Saskia was pregnant with another man's child and wanted to use the money for prenatal care.

Nathaniel wasn't that generous.

"Nathaniel, you already lent me the money. You can't take it back." Saskia was desperate.

Without the money, Benjamin's treatment would come to a halt. If she returned it, Benjamin would be kicked out of the hospital.

She had already lost so much; she couldn't bear to lose Benjamin as well.

Nathaniel sneered, "Which part didn't you understand? That money was meant for Azalea, specifically for her maternity fund. If she insists on giving it to you, that's on her, but then she'll have to take care of herself. No more prenatal care, no more pain relief."

"Nathaniel!" Saskia couldn't believe how cold he had become.

Saskia exclaimed, "That's your own child. Are you even human? How can you skip prenatal care? What if the baby is sick?"

Taking care of Benjamin these past few years had drained her completely. She had no choice. Benjamin's condition couldn't be detected before birth, and the child was already born. There was no turning back.

But Azalea was still pregnant. She needed regular check-ups to avoid any risks.

Saskia continued, "And Azalea always praises you for being considerate. You even found her doctor. How can you say this? Aren't you afraid she'll hear?"

"I wouldn't care if she found out about us. Why should it matter to me? Saskia, sort out that nonsense in your head before you say anything. Even if Azalea knew everything, she'd still choose to stay with me," Nathaniel declared with unwavering confidence.

Saskia knew him well; he never engaged in a fight he wasn't sure he could win. If he was saying this, it meant he was completely certain about Azalea.

Saskia felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. "I did what you asked last night. I can do it again tonight. I..."

"I'm a lawyer, not a trash collector, and certainly not one who charges over twenty grand. Are you made of gold or encrusted with diamonds?" Nathaniel cut in, his tone dismissive.

As he spoke, his heart ached.

What he said was true. Four years ago, after Saskia had left, he had looked into her whereabouts and discovered photos of her with different men. There were even videos with sound!

Nathaniel wanted to convince himself that the videos were fake, but deep down, he knew they were real. Seeing was believing.

If Saskia had the courage to do it, she should have the courage to face the consequences.

At that time, Saskia's vision went dark, and she suddenly collapsed.

Nathaniel's reflexes kicked in before his mind could catch up, and he quickly wrapped his arm around her to catch her securely.

Realizing what he had done, he quickly let go, watching her fall to the ground. He said, "Stop pretending. Every time we talk about this, you faint. You're not even a trained actress. If you love acting so much, you should've gone to Hollywood."

Yet Saskia didn't respond.

Seeing her like this, Nathaniel panicked. He shakily placed his hand under her nose. Thankfully, Saskia was still breathing.

Nathaniel picked her up and called for medical help. "Someone, help! She's fainted!"

The medical staff rushed over, placing Saskia on a stretcher and taking her to the emergency room. Nathaniel followed closely behind.

Fortunately, it was just a scare.

Later, the doctor came over with the test results. "Your girlfriend is fine. She just had a bout of low blood sugar. It's not serious. But as her boyfriend, you should be more considerate. Look how thin she is. Make sure she eats more. These young girls, risking their lives to stay thin."

Nathaniel didn't bother to correct the doctor when he referred to her as his "girlfriend."

He asked the doctor, "What about the baby?"

"What baby?" The doctor looked more confused than him. "We did a blood test. She's not pregnant. Home pregnancy tests aren't always accurate. The hospital's blood test is what counts."

Hearing this, Nathaniel was puzzled.

If Saskia wasn't pregnant, then what child was she discussing with that man? And what did the twenty thousand dollars signify?

Nathaniel asked directly, "I'd like to see her medical records. She just deposited two hundred thousand dollars at your hospital—what treatment is that money for?"
