Chapter 315 Followed All the Way

When Pearl came out of the bathroom, she saw Dylan nervously standing by the door.

He was sweating like he'd seen a ghost.

The moment she stepped out, Dylan looked relieved. "Finally! I don't want this ring anymore. You can keep it!"

He quickly handed the ring back to Pearl.

"Why not? We agreed on fifty thousand dollars," Pearl said, confused.

"I don't want it!" Dylan insisted. "I can't afford it. You should sell it somewhere else!"

And just like that, Pearl was shown the door.

She glanced back and saw Dylan closing up the shop.

Weird, she thought. She'd only been in the bathroom for a minute.

Pearl checked her phone and saw the fifty thousand dollars Dylan had transferred. "I haven't refunded the money yet."

No response from inside the store.

It was like the fifty thousand dollars didn't matter anymore.

Strange!

Pearl wasn't one to take advantage. Since Dylan didn't want the ring, she refunded the money.

She tried other jewelry and gold shops, but they all refused to buy the ring.

Given Dylan's initial excitement, the ring should've been easy to sell.

Something was definitely off.

Deciding not to push it, Pearl headed to a big supermarket.

It was peak time, and the place was packed. She grabbed a cart and picked out her favorite yogurts, some veggies, fruits, and snacks.

Even though she was pregnant, she was strong and independent, carrying the heavy bag with ease.

After paying, she started to head home.

Mason Russell approached her. "Need help? That looks heavy. Let me carry it. Where's your car? I'll take it there."

Before Pearl could respond, Mason had already picked up the bag.

"No,thank you," Pearl said. "I rode my bike here. It's just ahead."

"With all that stuff, it's hard to carry on a bike. How about I drive you home?" Mason suggested.

'Are there really so many kind people these days?' Pearl thought.

She eyed Mason. He wasn't very old, but she felt he had an agenda.

She frowned as Mason lifted her bike onto his shoulder. "I have a pickup truck. I can put your bike in the back and drive you home."

Pearl pursed her lips. "Who sent you?"

Mason stiffened. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

Pearl said, "I've been followed all the way here. Someone cleared my path, you offered to carry my stuff, and someone even stopped me from selling the ring. Who sent you?"

From the start, Pearl felt something was off.

There couldn't be so many coincidences.

Mason awkwardly explained, "I was just passing by and saw you struggling. I really meant well!"

"I don't believe you. Tell me, who sent you?" Pearl demanded.

Mason was at a loss for words.

Pearl took the bag from him. "If you won't say, then don't help me. I'm not used to others helping me."

"Be careful!" Mason cautioned, worried she might fall.

Pearl put the bag in her bike's basket and started to ride away.

She rode slowly, and Mason followed closely behind.

Losing patience, she stopped and raised her voice. "Why are you following me? Either stop or bring out your boss, or I'll call the police!"

Mason, flustered, received a command through his earpiece and walked away.

Seeing him leave, Pearl continued riding her bike.

But she still felt someone was following her.

She hadn't been out for days but suspected someone had been watching her.

Pearl decided to use a trick, suddenly wobbling on her bike.

She almost fell, but a steady hand caught her. She turned to see Oscar standing there.

Her expression changed, and she clenched her fists. The sunset cast a glow on him, showing a hint of sadness on his face.

But it lasted only a moment. Pearl shook off his hand. "It's you!"

Oscar averted his gaze, keeping some distance. "What do you mean?"

Pearl stared into his eyes, her tone sharp. "Who else would have someone follow me all the way here but you?"

"I was just passing by," Oscar said emotionlessly. "I saw someone struggling on the bike and decided to help. I didn't expect it to be you."

Pearl didn't believe him but didn't want to argue.

If he didn't want to admit it, he would have a hundred excuses.

Pearl pushed her bike, a mocking smile on her lips. "Well, thank you, Mr. Brown. I'm heading home now. Clearly, we're not going the same way. Goodbye forever!"

She got back on her bike and rode off without looking back.

Oscar watched her leave, frowning slightly. He wasn't at ease without seeing her get home safely.

Oscar's cold eyes shifted, and he said, "Follow her!"

The car silently followed behind.

Pearl saw his car in her bike's rearview mirror.

She was already riding slowly.

She didn't expect his car to move even slower.

'What is he trying to achieve by following me?'

Pearl had suffered enough under Oscar. Even though she had vented her anger, the resentment still lingered.

Seeing him made her even angrier.

Her good mood for the day was completely ruined.

Pearl stopped again and turned to look at the car.

Oscar rolled down the window.

Pearl's attitude was not friendly. "Mr. Brown, why are you following me? Didn't I say we aren't going the same way? Are you trying to follow me home? We're divorced, and that house is mine. I've done everything you asked. What more do you want from me? Are you here to laugh at me?"

Oscar's face remained calm, his deep eyes fixed on her. "This road isn't yours alone. Can't I drive on it too?"

"Are you driving on this road or stalking me?" Pearl questioned.
