Chapter 808 Illness Onset

Benjamin had to stay in the hospital, so Saskia dropped everything to be with him.

"Mom, I want some seafood soup," Benjamin said, swinging his legs.

It had been a week since his surgery, and there were no signs of rejection. Saskia could finally relax.

Benjamin's complexion was gradually improving.

But Saskia still couldn't grant his request.

"No, the doctor said you can't have that yet. How about something else? I brought you a sandwich." Saskia pulled out a thermos. She had made the sandwich herself.

Benjamin wasn't picky. He cheered, "Sure, I love your sandwiches, Mom!"

Saskia's heart melted at his words.

She said, "Take it slow."

As the mother and son shared a tender moment, the door opened.

Benjamin craned his neck to see who it was and soon exclaimed happily, "Mr. Egan, you're here again!"

Saskia tensed up.

Nathaniel had been visiting frequently these days. Saskia thought she had gotten used to it, but hearing his name still made her react involuntarily.

She couldn't ask him why Nathaniel, a busy man, had so much time to visit, especially in front of Benjamin. She could only watch as Nathaniel walked in with something in his hands.

"I brought something for you. A new toy. Do you like it?" Nathaniel took out the toy and waved it in front of Benjamin.

Benjamin's eyes lit up. "I love it! Thank you, Mr. Egan."

He was so excited that he gave Nathaniel a kiss on the cheek. Kids just adored their toys.

Being in the hospital bored Benjamin. He had already grown tired of his old toys.

Nathaniel's gift came at the perfect time.

"I didn't expect you to bring him a toy," Saskia said, rubbing her forehead.

Benjamin had always been well-behaved due to his heart condition.

After the surgery, he had become more lively, which Saskia was happy to see. But now, it seemed he was a bit too energetic and restless.

Saskia said, "Thank you, though. I didn't see that coming."

Nathaniel replied, "Taking care of Benjamin is my responsibility, too."

He looked at Benjamin with an unintentional tenderness in his eyes.

He had missed so much of Benjamin's childhood that, as his father, he felt the need to make up for it.

The sunlight streamed in.

It reflected in Nathaniel's deep eyes, giving them a unique sparkle that was hard to look away from.

Saskia felt a sudden pang in her heart.

She steadied herself on the table, which made a slight noise.

The sound was faint, but Nathaniel noticed and steadied her. "Saskia, are you okay?"

Saskia's forehead throbbed, her ears rang, and her vision was blurred.

In a daze, she heard Nathaniel's voice and instinctively turned to him. She asked, "George, what are you doing here? Where's Azalea?"

"I'm not George. I'm Nathaniel. Get a grip. Azalea is dead." Saying this, Nathaniel felt at a loss.

Was this the mental issue Quincy had mentioned?

Nathaniel hadn't seen any signs for a week and thought it was just the shock from the funeral.

He hadn't expected it to flare up again now.

Saskia asked, "Why isn't Azalea with you?"

"Saskia, listen to me. Calm down. Benjamin is still here." Nathaniel placed his hands on Saskia's shoulders, looking at her intently, trying to stabilize her emotions.

Benjamin sensed something was wrong and came over. "Mom, are you okay?"

Nathaniel was extremely tense, ready to restrain Saskia if necessary.Thankfully, Saskia still cared deeply about Benjamin.

"What's happening to me?" She shook her head, enduring the headache.

Nathaniel sighed in relief. "You were just too tired, but you're okay now."

He had researched Saskia's condition and knew she shouldn't be stressed. It was best not to let her know about her condition for now.

Saskia didn't suspect anything. She was in a daze about what had just happened. Nathaniel's explanation that she was just tired seemed plausible, so she believed him.

Benjamin tugged at her hand. "Mom, are you really tired? You should go rest. I'm a big boy now. I don't need you to be here all the time."

Saskia smiled and pinched his chubby cheek. "Yes, Benjamin is a big boy now, but I still worry about you."

"I think you should rest," Nathaniel added.

Saskia responded, "No, I'm fine. If this is about Azalea, I'm over it."

Nathaniel said, "I'll hire a nurse aide to help with Benjamin. You can take tomorrow off and come back the day after."

Saskia frowned. "Why do you get to decide that?"

After Azalea's incident, everyone was worried about Saskia. Saskia knew that, so she tried to recover quickly. After a week of adjusting, she felt much better. Why didn't Nathaniel believe her?

Nathaniel sighed. "Do you think you're really okay? Why don't you go look in the mirror?"

Saskia had no response. She had been staying up late and waking up early to take care of Benjamin, leaving little time for rest. Naturally, she looked worn out. Even her dark circles were showing, barely covered by makeup.

Benjamin also persuaded her. With both of them insisting, Saskia quickly gave in.

Nathaniel found a reliable nurse aide. But with time to rest, Saskia didn't know what to do.

Nathaniel said, "I made an appointment at a clinic. Come with me."

"A clinic?" Saskia frowned, feeling uneasy.

Nathaniel seemed to read her mind and said, "You're exhausted. It will help you relax."

Saskia hesitated but agreed.

At the clinic, she saw the sign and felt a sense of inevitability when she read "Psychological Clinic."

Even if Nathaniel hadn't said anything, she was aware of her own body. Saskia felt that something was off, which was why she didn't refuse Nathaniel and decided to come along.

The consultation was private. The psychologist had Saskia lie down, clear her mind, and did a light hypnosis test. When Saskia woke up, she remembered nothing. Then, she did a sand tray exercise.

After that, the psychologist said nothing and let Saskia go. Nathaniel was called in for a long conversation. When he came out, he looked grim. Saskia had never seen him look so bad.

"Is the result bad?" she asked nervously. Even though she was prepared, she couldn't bring herself to calmly accept having a mental health issue.

Nathaniel forced a smile, trying to reassure her. "It's nothing serious. You're just very tired and need rest."

Knowing she wouldn't get more out of him, Saskia stayed quiet.

The doctor prescribed some medication, which Nathaniel had packed in separate bags, likely to keep Saskia from knowing what they were. But Saskia wasn't clueless.

She took a photo and looked it up online, quickly finding out it was for bipolar disorder. Her hand shook, and she nearly dropped the medication when she saw the result.
