Chapter 883 I Am Just Afraid of Losing You

Saskia said, "I got home late last night and didn't see you. I was about to call, but Oscar brought you back."

Nathaniel rubbed his temples, feeling the effects of last night's drinking.

"Here, take some vitamin C," Saskia said, handing him a tablet.

Nathaniel had been deep in thought yesterday. He wanted to have a serious talk with Saskia and even considered visiting her on her business trip if she couldn't come back.

But to his surprise, Saskia had returned.

Nathaniel gave a bitter smile. "Saskia, do you hate me for being like this?"

"What are you talking about? You're my husband. How could I hate you? Besides, if anyone knows what's on my mind, it's you."

Saskia's thoughts were simple: she wanted their child to be happy and Nathaniel to be healthy. She wanted their family to be happy.

"But I..."

"When Oscar brought you back yesterday, he told me to have a good talk with you. I know what's bothering you, Nathaniel. Are you afraid that if I leave, someone else will catch my eye and I'll leave you?"

Saskia sat beside Nathaniel, a deep smile on her lips. She knew she needed to clear things up with Nathaniel today to prevent him from continuing to feel insecure.

Nathaniel didn't respond, but his lips were pressed into a tight line. He couldn't deny that he had those thoughts.

But Oscar and Harold had told him not to deny Saskia's excellence and not to restrict her because of it.

Nathaniel hung his head, feeling ashamed. "My thoughts are immature."

"No, I know this is a sign of your love. If I were in your shoes, I might be even worse. Nathaniel, you don't need to doubt my love for you. And wasn't it you who encouraged me to start all this?"

Saskia held Nathaniel's hand, her expression serious.

Nathaniel felt even more ashamed. Yes, he had encouraged Saskia, but now he was the one feeling insecure.

This was bad.

"Saskia, I'm sorry. I don't want to clip your wings and keep you by my side. I'm just afraid of losing you."

"I know."

Because he had loved and lost before, he felt this way.

"Chase your dreams freely. I'll always be your supporter," Nathaniel said, finally understanding Oscar's words.

Benjamin had his troubles. The girls in his class all liked him.

Even Jade found several property deeds in Benjamin's backpack one day.

This scared Jade, and she quickly called Benjamin over. "Benjamin, why do you have so many property deeds in your backpack? Where did you get them?"

The names on the deeds weren't Saskia's or Nathaniel's.

Benjamin thought for a moment and remembered his classmate Yara. "These must be from my classmate Yara."

Saskia immediately called the kindergarten teacher to get Yara's parents' phone number and address. Then she took Benjamin to return the deeds.

To their surprise, when Yara saw Benjamin, she pointed at him and said, "Dad, it's him. He's the one I like the most. Those things are my wedding gifts to him. Why did he return them?"

Yara had deliberately put the deeds in Benjamin's backpack. She had been watching him for a long time and wanted to be friends, but Benjamin didn't talk much.

She wanted to be friends with Benjamin.

Her uncle had said, "What's the point of being friends? You should get married."

So she had secretly taken the property deeds to school.

Yara's father was embarrassed. "Yara, you're too young to understand wedding gifts. Don't put things in other people's backpacks."

Yara was serious. "But I want to be friends with Benjamin. If I want to be friends, I have to show my sincerity. If I don't, how will he believe I'm genuine?"

Saskia couldn't help but laugh at Yara's words.

Yara's father was even more embarrassed. "Benjamin's mom, I'm sorry. I don't know where Yara heard these things. Please don't take it to heart."

"Yara's dad, here are your property deeds. Please check if they're all there."

Yara's dad checked and found eight property deeds, all correct.

Yara was unhappy and refused to let her dad take them back. "I don't want to! You said that once something is given, it can't be taken back. I have to be responsible for my words."

"I've already given these things to Benjamin. He took them home, so he must have accepted me. I gave them as a betrothal gift, so Benjamin is mine now. If you take them back, how can I interact with Benjamin? He'll think I'm untrustworthy."

Yara kept struggling and crying.

Yara's dad was at a loss, and Saskia felt helpless. Kids these days were spoiled and stubborn.

But then Benjamin stepped forward to comfort Yara. "Don't cry. I understand your sincerity. We're friends. I want to be friends with you. I just don't talk much at school, not because I don't like you."

"Really?"

Yara looked up with tearful eyes.

Benjamin nodded. "Of course it's true. Why would I lie to you?"

Yara was overjoyed and hugged Benjamin. "I'm glad you're not lying. But taking these things back makes me seem insincere. That's not good."

"Don't worry about that. Wedding gifts are for weddings. We're just kids in kindergarten. We can't get married. Besides, betrothal gifts are given by boys to girls."

Benjamin wanted to correct Yara.

Yara was stunned. "But isn't it the same if girls give them to boys?"

Yara's dad picked her up. "No, it's not the same. Boys giving gifts means they want to marry you. If you give gifts, it means the boy will live with you."

"Is there a difference between marrying and living with someone?" Yara started asking a million questions.

Yara's dad explained, "Yes, there's a difference. Marrying means you live with the boy's family. Living with someone means the boy lives with your family. Living with someone means you give the wedding gifts."

"Right, so giving wedding gifts to Benjamin isn't wrong?"
