Chapter 674 It's Impossible to Keep Her

Christopher was fuming, but deep down, he felt a pang of guilt too.

That day, Oscar and Pearl had talked about sending Lila to an orphanage. But he liked her so much, he wanted to keep her. And now, he was stuck with a murderer!

"Get out! I never want to see you again."

Lila tried to grab his sleeve, but he shoved her away, and she hit the ground hard.

Calliope came out of the dining room with a cake and saw the whole thing. She wanted to help Lila, but before she could move, Christopher snapped, "Stop acting all innocent. You're so fake and disgusting. You poisoned Emily, and you think I'd feel sorry for you?"

Calliope froze, eyes wide.

She looked at Lila, struggling to believe this tiny kid, who barely reached her waist, could do something so awful.

Then she glanced at the cake on the table and remembered Lila had been begging for desserts lately. It hit her. "Lila, you didn't want the desserts, you just wanted to get rid of me. No wonder you barely touched the tarts I made yesterday!"

A cold sweat broke out on her forehead.

If Pearl hadn't caught Lila in the act, she would've been fooled, thinking Lila was just a kid with a sweet tooth and making more treats for her.

"Oscar, after what she did, I can't stand to see her another second. We need to get rid of her now," Pearl said, turning to Oscar. "But where do we send her?"

The big problem was, Lila was a foreign kid.

She had no ID in the country, and the orphanage probably wouldn't take her.

Even if they called the cops, what could they do with such a little kid? They couldn't exactly throw her in jail.

"Contact the embassy," Oscar decided quickly. "Whatever country she's from, send her back there."

"No! I don't have a mom anymore, and Lumaria is always at war. I don't want to go back alone," Lila blurted out, panicking.

Christopher clenched his fist, ready to punch something. "You knew all along but never said a word."

When they talked before, he had asked her where she was from, and she always claimed she didn't know.

Turned out, she was lying the whole time.

Lila quickly covered her mouth, but it was too late.

Pearl ignored her and looked at Oscar. "Then let's do that. The Lumaria embassy isn't far. Even if she doesn't talk, she came by plane, so we can find her entry info."

It would be a hassle, but better than keeping Lila around. Pearl felt sick just looking at her.

But she couldn't do anything to Lila, and that was the worst part.

Lila knelt on the ground, her knees probably bruising from the force.

But she didn't care about the pain. She begged, "Please let me stay, don't send me back. I'll suffer if I go back."

Even though she was young, she knew where she was better off.

In this house, even though they weren't blood relatives, everyone treated her well, and it was safe. She could play in the garden without always being on the lookout, ready to run with her family.

If they sent her back, she wouldn't finish her mission, wouldn't see her family, and would end up alone on the streets.

The more Lila thought about it, the more desperate she got. "I know I messed up, I won't do it again. I won't hurt anyone anymore, just let me stay."

Even if Christopher didn't want to play with her, she could live with that.

"It's too late, I don't believe you." Christopher walked over to Pearl.

Last time he begged for Lila, but this time, no way.

He shook his head at Pearl and Oscar. "Mom, Dad, don't keep her. I'm scared she'll hurt Emily again."

Once someone did something wrong, it was only a matter of time before they did it again.

Oscar picked up Christopher. "Let's take her to the embassy now. Then we don't have to worry about what happens next, someone else will send her back."

As for what would happen to Lila after she went back, that wasn't their problem.

Oscar and Pearl weren't exactly saints.

If Lila had been honest from the start, they would've done everything to help her.

But now, Emily had almost died and barely made it. If they forgave Lila, it would be like betraying Emily.

Lila wanted to beg more, but Pearl had no patience left. She grabbed her off the ground and shoved her into the car.

With Lila's cries echoing, they drove towards the embassy.

Meanwhile, with Desiree...

Even though Harold tried to stop her over and over, he couldn't change her mind.

"I've packed everything, Harold. We've known each other for so long, don't you know how I am?" Desiree asked, holding a suitcase. "Or is your heart already filled with another woman, leaving no room for me?"

"Desiree, don't say that." Harold's face was full of pain.

How did they end up here?

The child was gone, and now Desiree wanted to leave, which would completely tear the family apart.

He deeply regretted his indecisiveness. He shouldn't have drunk that cup of Rhodiola rosea, and he shouldn't have stayed home. He should have left right after getting what he needed.

But it had already happened, and all he could do was try to make things right.

"I didn't do anything with that woman. I pushed her away, and I was..." Harold started.

"Stop, I don't want to hear it," Desiree cut him off.

Her eyes were filled with tears and deep sarcasm.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed he would betray her, and then act all pitiful afterward.

She shot back, "If you had gone into acting, you might be an Oscar winner by now. But this is a home, not a stage, and not a place for your performance. Move!"

Then she walked forward with her suitcase.

Harold tried to stop her, but Desiree said, "Harold, I'll say it again. You know me well. Don't make me hate you for the rest of my life."
