Chapter 412 That's a Beautiful Cross Bracelet
Louis saw the scene but didn't react. He grabbed the charger and didn't rush forward. Just then, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, his expression turned colder.
Carol's gentle voice came through, "Louis, when are you coming back?"
"Not anytime soon," he replied coldly, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor with the kids and Pearl.
Carol paused, then said hopefully, "Let me know when you decide to return."
"I have things to do. Bye," Louis said and hung up.
Carol, hearing the busy tone, felt a flash of anger. He wasn't enthusiastic enough towards her.
After Miguel knocked over the cheesecake, Pearl just stared at him for a few seconds, then picked it up and dusted it off.
"I've told you to control your temper," Pearl said, clearly annoyed.
She had her limits too. If Miguel couldn't keep his anger in check, she wouldn't work with him anymore.
"Do I have to be like you? I know Louis is different. You two have common interests, you can teach here together and have a great future!" Miguel said, gritting his teeth, fists clenched, hatred clear in his eyes.
Pearl hadn't forgotten how he pushed her away and threw the snake, or his determination during the village massacre. Hatred can consume you, but patience is key.
"Miguel, when you're my age, you'll understand you can't rush things. Louis hasn't harmed you, and you haven't proven any connection between him and RavenWing or the village massacre," Pearl said, handing him the cheesecake. "We're here now, we can only move forward. Shouldn't you behave in someone else's place? He won't poison the cake if he wants a good image. You need strength to do what we need to do."
Seeing Miguel hesitate, Pearl added, "Take it." She stuffed the cheesecake into his hand and left.
Outside, she noticed many repairs needed and weeds to deal with. Louis hadn't arrived yet. She wasn't sure if he was connected to RavenWing, whose true face no one had ever seen. If Louis was just a village teacher, it seemed too simple.
A few minutes later, she heard footsteps, with Louis approaching her with a gentle smile. "I got held up. Here's the charger. Can you start teaching tomorrow?"
"Are you in such a hurry?" Pearl asked, surprised.
Louis nodded. "There are cakes and books in my room. If you need anything, take it. Here's the key."
He handed her the key. Louis glanced at her bracelet. "Nice cross bracelet."
Pearl touched it, smiling. "Thanks. It's just an ordinary bracelet."
"Did you buy it?" Louis asked.
"A friend gave it to me," she replied.
"Man or woman?" he asked.
"A man."
Louis fell into thought, then said, "Take care. I'll leave now."
"Goodbye," Pearl said politely.
Paloma Ortega saw the whole scene, jealousy flickering in her eyes.
Pearl continued pulling weeds when suddenly a mouse was thrown at her. The soft touch made her shudder. She heard triumphant laughs and instinctively looked up.
