Chapter 424 Gender Equality

Pearl didn't care what he thought. She was just stating the facts. They were divorced, and she was free to find someone new. She needed to show him she wasn't dependent on him. Ignoring Oscar's gaze, she linked arms with Paloma and walked away.

Paloma still thought this was a good opportunity. She hadn't expected it to end like this.

In a stone house, Carol's voice echoed, "Louis."

Louis was in the study, a spacious room with bookshelves reaching seven or eight meters high, filled with books. Hearing Carol's voice, Louis showed no expression and kept reading.

"Louis," Carol called again as she entered the study. Seeing him, she got excited. "Why didn't you tell me you were back? I've been waiting for so long."

Louis barely looked up. "Why are you here?"

"I miss you." Carol clung to his arm. "You came back without seeing me."

"Aren't you doing fine over there?"

"Yes," Carol said. "But it's always less fun when you're not around."

Louis stayed silent.

"Why are you so cold to me?" Carol asked. "I'm your only sister."

Louis looked at her, whose eyes were full of longing. "Everyone else has a brother who loves them, and I want one too. Didn't you bring me a gift?"

Louis pulled her hand away, put down his book, and walked to the window. "If you need anything, just ask, and someone will bring it to you. No need to make a fuss."

"No matter how many things I have, if they're not from you, what's the use?" Carol ran to his side. "By the way, what did you do this time? Was there anything fun? If you go out again, take me with you."

"Carol," Louis said coldly. "I wasn't out for fun."

Carol changed the subject. "Okay, then do you want to go back with me to see Father?"

"Did Father ask for me?" Louis asked.

"He didn't say, but he still hopes you'll stay by his side," Carol replied.

"If he didn't insist, then I won't go back," Louis refused.

"Why?" Carol didn't understand.

Louis said, "If there's nothing else, you should go back."

Carol looked at Louis's back, feeling a bit angry, but she didn't show it. Then she left in a huff.

"Ms. Mitchell, are you going back?" She was accompanied by a team arranged by RavenWing.

Carol's face was dark. "How can someone be so hard to please? What did I do wrong? Aren't I his sister?"

"Ms. Mitchell, don't be angry. Mr. Mitchell is just like that. Don't take it to heart," said Jorge Fuentes, her bodyguard.

Jorge was six feet tall and always carried a weapon. As her personal bodyguard, he had to protect her and answer her questions.

Carol asked, "Is he like this with others too?"

"I don't interact with Mr. Mitchell much. He's usually like this, not caring much about anything," Jorge told her.

This made Carol feel a bit better, and she asked, "Where does he go when he's not here?"

"Mr. Mitchell likes to walk around the nearby villages."

"He has that kind of leisure? What's there to see?"

"His thoughts are different from others."

"Doesn't Father care about him?"

"He doesn't care," Jorge said.

Carol got curious about what was so interesting in the nearby villages and wanted to see for herself.

"Why do I feel like you and Mr. Brown are acting so weird?" Paloma felt like she missed a good opportunity. "You two seem to have known each other for a long time, not like you just met."

"You're not wrong," Pearl replied.

Paloma was shocked.

Pearl's mind wasn't on Oscar. She had been in this village for so long and hadn't found any other information about RavenWing. "Didn't you say you were protected by RavenWing before? Now that the village has fallen, I thought he would always protect you."

Speaking of this topic, Paloma said, "Our village was peaceful before. Recently, we've been targeted by other allied forces, and we don't know what the future holds."

"But RavenWing has been very good to us. He taught us many things and even sent us supplies. As for internal strife, even the government can't settle it. What can RavenWing do?" Paloma sighed deeply.

"He sent supplies?" Pearl asked. "When? How come I didn't know?"

"Not recently, but he did before. The village has been protected by Mr. Brown, so it's hard for others to enter. I don't know if we can continue to be peaceful after Mr. Brown leaves. Maybe one day, if you come back, you'll find I've died in the conflict."

Pearl didn't know if she had said something wrong. "I'm sorry, Paloma. I shouldn't have said that."

Paloma smiled slightly. "It's okay. I was born in this country and have experienced such things. There's nothing that can't be mentioned."

Pearl sympathized with them but couldn't interfere. She felt powerless.

"Ms. Harris." Suddenly, she saw Valentina standing there, calling her.

Pearl saw it was her and asked, "What's wrong?"

Valentina said, "I'm cooking and want to try some Tranquiloria dishes. Can you teach me?"

Pearl walked over. "I rarely cook, and I'm not very good at it."

Valentina said, "Cooking and doing laundry are women's jobs. I thought you would know."

Pearl didn't like hearing this and told her, "In our country, cooking and doing laundry aren't just women's jobs. Men can do women's work, and women can do men's work. Men and women are equal, and there's nothing that must be done."

Valentina didn't think Pearl was impressive after hearing this. She thought that if Pearl couldn't cook or do laundry, she wasn't as capable as she was.

This was Valentina's strong suit, and she humbly said, "Really? But as a woman, aren't you supposed to do these things? I wanted to make a Tranquiloria dish to surprise Mr. Brown. If you're not very experienced, I don't know who else to ask!"
