Chapter 30 Sowing Discord
The dazzling lights flickered in the studio, with a strong and powerful rhythm of music. Haley stood in front of the camera, swaying her body to the music, showcasing her charm as a popular singer. She wore a silver sequined long dress, shining brightly under the lights, like a dazzling star.
As the director called "cut," Haley paused, breathing slightly heavily. Feeling unwell, her complexion turned pale. Mae, observing from the sidelines, immediately noticed something was amiss.
"Haley, are you okay?" Mae quickly walked to Haley's side, asking with concern.
Haley shook her head and weakly said, "I feel a bit dizzy, probably due to my blood sugar drops."
Mae suddenly realized, quickly took out a box of chocolates from her bag and handed it to Haley. "Quick, have some chocolate to boost your blood sugar."
Haley took the chocolate, forced a smile, and said, "Thank you, Mae. You're always so thoughtful."
At this moment, Oscar sitting behind the monitor also noticed the anomaly. He stood up immediately and walked briskly towards Haley.
"Haley, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Oscar asked with a worried expression.
Haley, with a hint of grievance in her eyes upon seeing Oscar, said, "Oscar, I have low blood sugar again. I got too engrossed in the shoot just now and forgot to eat."
Oscar gently put his arm around Haley's shoulder and said softly, "Don't worry, just rest for a bit. Do you want me to accompany you to the lounge for a while?"
Haley nodded, leaning on Oscar. The two slowly walked towards the lounge, with Mae following behind, holding water and chocolates.
Once inside the lounge, Haley sat on the couch with Oscar gently patting her back. Mae handed over the water and chocolates, then tactfully retreated.
After drinking some water and eating a few pieces of chocolate, Haley's complexion gradually returned to normal. Oscar kept looking at her with concern and asked, "Are you feeling better now?"
Haley nodded, then suddenly remembered something, her eyes slightly reddening, "Oscar, it's not just about low blood sugar today. I'm feeling really upset."
Oscar furrowed his brow and asked, "What happened?"
Haley took a deep breath and began to speak, "This morning, while shopping, I ran into Pearl and Magdalen."
Upon hearing Magdalen's name, Oscar's expression turned serious.
She continued, "As soon as they saw me, they started mocking me. Magdalen said I'm too old and shouldn't be shooting music videos anymore, that I should step back. Pearl was even worse, she said I only have my current status because of you, that without you, I'm nothing."
Tears started to well up in Haley's eyes as she spoke, "Oscar, I'm really hurt. I know I'm a few years older than you, but I didn't expect them to look down on me like this. I've been working hard to prove my abilities, but they say I only succeeded because of you."
With that, Oscar' brow furrowed. After a moment of silence, he gently embraced Haley, comforting her, "Don't be upset. I believe in your talent. You've reached your current position through your own abilities and hard work; don't let idle gossip affect you."
Resting her head on Oscar's chest, Haley sobbed softly. "But they are your family, I don't know how to face them. I'm afraid they will affect our relationship."
Oscar gently stroked Haley's back and said softly, "Don't worry, I will talk to them. They shouldn't speak to you like that, they should respect you."
Looking up with teary eyes, Haley said, "Will you really talk to them? I don't want to be a burden to your family."
Oscar nodded. "Of course, I will handle this matter. Trust me, I will always stand by your side."
Feeling comforted by Oscar's promise, Haley wiped her tears, forced a smile, and said, "Thank you, Oscar. With you by my side, I feel much more at ease."
Oscar gently said, "Don't overthink, your health is the most important right now. Let's finish today's shoot first, then have a good rest, okay?"
Haley nodded, took a deep breath, and composed herself. "You're right. Let's continue shooting."
Supporting Haley to stand up, the two walked out of the lounge. Mae, seeing the situation, immediately ran over to inquire Haley's situation.
"Haley, are you feeling better? Do you want to rest a bit more?" Mae asked with concern.
Haley smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine, thank you for your concern. Let's continue working."
Oscar said to Mae, "Please keep an eye on Haley's condition. If she feels unwell again, inform me immediately."
Mae nodded solemnly. "Don't worry, Mr. Brown. I will take good care of Haley."
