Chapter 632 Starting Your Business

Since Harold and Desiree went through some tough times together, they both knew how they felt about each other without saying a word.

Once they figured out their feelings, they teamed up.

They never had any big fights, always working through stuff together.

They'd carpool to work, grab dinner, and catch a movie after.

Harold felt it was time to make things official with Desiree. He owed her that much.

"Mr. Lewis is Mr. Brown's right-hand man, and everyone knows he's got a sharp business mind!"

"Oh wow, this is a double win! Mr. Brown's top guy is getting hitched!"

"Congrats to the happy couple!"

The crowd started cheering.

Harold had been planning to pop the question for a while, but work kept getting in the way. Now, with Emily's Sip and See, there were so many people around!

Desiree didn't want to steal Oscar's spotlight, but Harold was already down on one knee.

She had already decided she was with Harold, and if she said no now, he'd look like a fool.

Desiree held out her hand and said, "Yes."

Harold slid the ring onto her finger. Someone snapped a pic and posted it online, and it got a ton of likes.

But Desiree's dad, Liam Sandvik, wasn't happy.

As Harold and Desiree were heading home after the Sip and See, Liam showed up, blocking their way.

Liam looked serious, and Desiree knew what that meant.

She liked Harold and loved their time together. Now that Harold had proposed, she didn't want her family to mess things up.

So, she stepped in front of Harold. "Dad, if you have something to say, you can call me. Why come all this way?"

Liam, dressed in a fancy suit, looked intimidating.

He ignored Desiree and stared at Harold. Even though Harold looked sharp in his business suit and stood about 6 feet tall, he didn't measure up to the rich elite.

Liam's stare was intense. "I saw the proposal video. Desiree is young and naive, so it doesn't count."

"Dad!" Desiree hoped he'd drop it.

Those words stung.

Harold had been with Oscar for years, handling all sorts of stuff and meeting all kinds of people. Liam's dislike wasn't a shock.

"Mr. Sandvik, I know you don't like me and think my job is small potatoes. But I really care about Desiree. Before her, I never dated anyone. It's not that I couldn't, but I was focused on my studies and career," Harold said slowly. "I always thought I'd get my career sorted first, then think about relationships."

Achieving career success first gave one confidence, no matter what.

But Liam just glared at Harold and said, "No matter how successful you are, you're still just an employee. My daughter deserves the best. Just because she wants to gain experience doesn't mean you should treat her like everyone else."

Liam's face was blank, but his words cut deep.

Harold had been with Oscar for years, earning respect because of both Oscar and his own skills.

Oscar was super demanding, and only the best stuck around.

But right now, Harold felt worthless in front of Liam.

Harold stayed calm and said, "From the moment Desiree joined, I knew who she was. We both got in on our own merits. I owe my success to Mr. Brown, and I plan to stay by his side. I don't want to start my own business."

He was firm about it.

Without Oscar, Harold wouldn't be where he was today. Quitting would be like biting the hand that fed him.

Plus, Oscar couldn't just find another loyal and capable assistant overnight.

And if Harold left, Desiree would probably leave too.

If they both left, it would be a huge blow to Oscar, especially since he's focusing more on his family now.

Liam coldly replied, "Even if you agreed to change careers now, I still wouldn't let Desiree marry you."

Then he turned to Desiree with a sharp look. "When you're done playing around, come home. I don't want to have to drag you back."

With that, Liam walked away without looking back.

He didn't force Desiree to go home, but his message was clear.

Desiree looked worried and said, "Harold, my dad isn't..."

"I know. If I were a father, I might be even more extreme."

Desiree took a deep breath and hugged Harold. "Harold, with time, my dad will surely see your good qualities. I believe he will come around. But, have you really never thought about starting your own business?"

Desiree knew Harold was loyal to Oscar, but she also knew he had the skills to go solo. She couldn't stay at the Brown Group forever either.

Harold's decision seemed too self-sacrificing.

Harold answered firmly, "I promised to stay by Mr. Brown's side. Now that he's stepped back, it would be hard to train a new assistant quickly."

Whether as a president or an assistant, it was all about getting things done, and Oscar had always paid him well.

Desiree understood Harold's thoughts. She knew that once he made a decision, he wouldn't easily change it.

But she still felt that with his abilities, he could definitely go solo. Even if it took time to train someone new, Harold couldn't stay at the Brown Group forever.

If he left, someone else would take his place. No one was irreplaceable.
